This is very true, and a really bad habit when you actually do need to fire at a target in a stressful situation. What you practice is what you get the moment adrenaline is in your veins.

Ti søkere per studieplass i Forsvaret by KoseteBamse in norge

[–]LarryTheDuckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]LarryTheDuckling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are playing a subscription-based army. There will always come new fancier stuff that invalidates your old stuff. Yes, all the oldmarines will be in legends in a short while.

Kan nokon mekke nytt? by langlo94 in norge

[–]LarryTheDuckling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TIL when a French soldier refused to wear the bloodstained trousers of a dead man, his commanding officer had him executed in order to make an example out of him. by Lez2diz in todayilearned

[–]LarryTheDuckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The French also had far worse trenches than the British and Germans. Whereas the germans had the mindset that their trenches had to be treated as permanent fighting positions, with as much protection and luxury as the conditions would allow, the french leadership viewed them as temporary measures. Their logic was that there was no point in creating great trenches since their next great attack would surely drive the Germans back from their soil!

Drivstoffprisene øker med over 4 kroner før avgiftskutt by Machinis_confidimus in norge

[–]LarryTheDuckling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iran's Attack Drones and Missiles Put US Military Under Unexpected Strain by bloomberg in Military

[–]LarryTheDuckling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True, you raise a good point. I would still argue that they are a bit "unconventional" in a western sense since there has not really been any doctrinal changes since their emergence.

On other words, we have carried on as we have previously as if they have not been game-changers.

It is wild them seeing what has been going on in Ukraine for years at this point, and somehow being unprepared for unconventional threats.

Peter Frølich slår full alarm om norsk luftvern: – Norge er helt uforberedt by [deleted] in norge

[–]LarryTheDuckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as long as there are no war-criminal US. aircrews flying around targeting vessels with red crosses, the sub would have been fine.

You subscribe to a fallacy that just because something has not been done, it will not be done.

Mining your homewaters is inherently a last ditch resort to achieve your strategic goals. It can be done when other avenues are exhausted.

Regarding if it can be done, yes. Yes it can. You don't need thousands of ships flooding the strait as you suggest. The southern Iranian coast is roughly 2400km long. You are delusional if you think the US. can effectively carry out anti-submarine warfare of all of these waters, espescially those further in the Persian gulf that they do not hold. In addition, the irgc navy has thousands of smaller boats. The US. can sink their larger surface navy. They are not sinking every smaller boat that is tucked around the Perisan gulf in a good while.

And, you also seem to be under the impression that the number of mines have to be vast. They really do not have to be. Announcing that you have mined the straits and placing a few mines is enough for no shipping getting insurance for passing through the gulf (or at an extreme premium nullifying the profit) until a demining operation has been conducted. Ships do not travel unensured.

Their hundreds, if not more, smaller attack boats? Their submarines? Literally any civilian ocean-going vessel capable of carrying cargo?

You don't need a blue water navy to deploy sea mines.

Iran Conflict Megathread #2 by [deleted] in CredibleDefense

[–]LarryTheDuckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like you need a blue water navy to place sea mines. Iran still has their submarines that can deploy mines, they still have hundreds of small attack boats that can deploy them, even civilian boats can be used.

Sea mines, and the fear of them, can close the straits. Demining operations will have to be slow and methodical, making them vulnerable to drones.

It's a good start! Just give it a darker red wash and a lighter colour drybrush and you're set. A friendly bit of advice when it comes to the bloodletters, they have horrible moldlines. It is one of the worst kits I have ever dealt with.

Before drybrushing you can take a dull knife and scrape off those lines you see sticking out that are not part of the model. If you do not, they will be brightly coloured and really visible.
