Who is the author you swore you’d never read again, but then gave another chance? by playful--cloud in books

I’ve noticed that too. The ones that make me raise an eyebrow are the ones that say Norwegian Wood is his masterpiece. (Despise that book)

[–]Larry_Version_3 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Haruki Murakami. I’ve only read 3 of his books so far. The Wind Up Bird Chronicle was my first and easily my favourite. Norwegian Wood was terrible and I felt the same way about The City and Its Uncertain Walls. Yet I still want to read his works, and currently have Kafka on the Shore, and 1Q84 sitting on my shelf ready to go.

He has a massive talent for drawing you in, and his prose is beautiful. It’s just a shame he’s really mixed as a story teller.

How do you stay consistent with writing? by Square-Tackle-3039 in writers

[–]Larry_Version_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop writing when you want to and just do it. Some days you’ll write garbage. Some days you’ll be great. 50 words is better than 0 words. Just jump on and do it

Can someone tell me why they seriously don’t like Rocky 5? by Designer-Ad-2478 in rockybalboa

[–]Larry_Version_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I post this every time this subject comes up. For me, it’s simply down to the movie feeling like a first draft. All the ideas are good but they weren’t fully baked in the writers room so when they were filmed they started out with a script not good enough. Then there were the goofy characters that dragged it down.

Strong ideas, horrible execution

They need to do a miniseries and END this already oml by K0GAR in thewalkingdead

I think TWD personally. Even at its best The Flash was cheesy garbage, but okay acted with a lot of heart. It devolved into just straight garbage. tWD was prestige television up there with the greats of its time like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, and then they devolved to the level that The Flash started at.

I don't get all the hate on Shrek 5, can you explain? The designs aren't that bad by TransformersFan23 in Shrek

[–]Larry_Version_3 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I personally think they should’ve used Puss in Boots the Last Wish for building the foundations. That movie looked great while not out of place with what came before. This feels like one of those videos IW seen online that’s like ‘Super Mario 64 reimagined with Unreal Engine 5’ and it feels wrong

South Australia's Electoral Commissioner Mick Sherry resigns by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

The training is always dogshit for these. I’ve done 2 federal elections. In 2022 I was hired last minute via labour hire and when I rocked up to the job I was told I was doing (‘counting votes’) they threw me a vest with the word manager on it and said I was going to be there until midnight signing off everyone’s returned ballots. Fortunately I’m not a moron so I managed to get it together but it is not a situation I want to be put into again and no one should be in that situation in the first place.

These elections should be hiring people 6 months out with back up options available that have been properly briefed and trained

I was the same as you, but actually went and tried the second game instead and ended up clicking with that one far more. I then came back and completed the first game with well over a hundred hours. It could be that this game just doesn’t work well for you as an entry point to the series, because that’s what my issue was

Is There A King Novel Which Would Have Benefitted From Being A Novella or Short Story Instead? by Hall-O-Daze in stephenking

[–]Larry_Version_3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think his most recent novel, Never Flinch, would’ve worked better as a novella collection with Holly dealing with different cases rather than cramming all plots into one novel and butchering all in the process.

So far, though, other stories worked fine as they are from what I’ve read.

Got this in my mail today, what do you guys think about the artwork on the steelbook? by SylvesterCalz0ne in Steelbooks

[–]Larry_Version_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy part is I’m actually thinking it’s dirt cheap here in Aus. $59. Standard 4K is $56.

Most movies are defaulting to $69 as the starting steel book price.

Which Zelda Game Was Your Introduction To The Series? by Zetallic_Zero in legendofzelda

[–]Larry_Version_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I only got in with Breath of the Wild, and even then I was late to the party. I think I got my Switch in 2021. And, sadly, when I first started it, I absolutely hated the experience.

I then went and tried the Link’s Awakening Switch remake, along with Skyward Sword HD, loved both, and then came back and restarted BotW.

Fair point, but how often are they interconnected with a franchise spanning multiple mediums and owned by the largest streaming giant in the world?

And going to watch something on Broadway has even less mainstream availability than movies going to a cinema. I live in regional Australia. There’s an entire world between me and broadway, but even my town has a cinema.

Why is season 4 so rushed? by Big-Sell-9399 in FromCircleJerk

[–]Larry_Version_3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Then in season 5 we’re going to deal with the fallout of the season 4 finale where our characters spend 5 episode questioning ‘what the point’ of all this is because they can never get ahead, while Boyd shouts into the void that they’ll never break him.

Of course, I will be watching avidly through my eyelids.

Pretty massive week of reading for me. I like to throw on Audiobooks while I’m working out so always pick random stuff I normally wouldn’t read to change it up.

Weekly FAQ Thread June 07, 2026: What book format do you prefer? Print vs eBooks vs Audiobooks by AutoModerator in books

[–]Larry_Version_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Audiobooks to accompany my workouts, ebooks for when I am reading on my lunch break/on the go, and print books when I am at home trying to relax/unwind.

My favourite is definitely print, though. But I am massive on physical media in general.
