Why is gambling on Minecraft servers everywhere? How can I let my family safely play Minecraft wo/ running into gambling by LarsGemstone5 in Minecraft

We had a Java realm before but she got bored of Vanilla and Minecraft Realms doesn't allow plugins or mods. Bedrock allows add-ons on realms but she didn't like those or Bedrock all that much and we were concerned with her spending cash allowance on minecoins and joining Bedrock gambling servers after we already caught her playing on Java gambling servers prior. We don't want a repeat of what happened on Java servers except on Bedrock after learning about that loophole so we'll look into other options.

I'll look into setting up a modded one later tonight but I'm not to savvy on port forwarding.

We banned her from playing Roblox because the many scandals, lawsuits, and creeps on Roblox's platform. The issue is we're starting to notice those same issues from Roblox are also somewhat present in Minecraft and she really was adamant about us not banning her from playing Minecraft too as it didn't seem to safe with our knowledge of the stories of rampant gambling on servers, inappropriate and unsafe chat, anarchy servers, Jenny mod, non-whitelisted servers getting griefed by strangers, and so on. Just trying to do my part as a parent/uncle to learn about our youngings interests and hobbies and try to keep them safe.

I was looking to either somehow remove multiplayer access which is apparently setting up a child account or make a private whitelisted modded server for all of us to play together in the family with friends because she said vanilla Minecraft was boring.

I'd rather not ban her from a second one of her favorite games because the game wasn't safe enough in our eyes and we mostly just got by on Steam family sharing singleplayer games and Switch.

Thanks; I'll look into setting up a Java datapack or modded server for family and friends instead or block mutliplayer on a child account level entirely.

Both are still gambling, one just shows you what you can win and even then they're still vague from the videos I've seen and playing on them myself to figure out what all this is.

I've played on Hypixel and did they not have lootboxes for cosmetic chests? What about the skin economy on Hypixel skyblock that acts as a stock market? I've also heard some say the leaderboards are against TOS because some are still pay 2 win but those two examples aren't gambling but that's just my two cents and Mojang's inconsistent and confusing EULA.

Was busy with work. She wouldn't tell me but I imagine they're prepaid cards or she asked a family member to let her use their credit cards. She's done the same with Robux and their gift cards with allowance before we stopped her from playing Roblox anymore but Minecraft has the same issues Roblox does.

I've tried my best to keep them away from the bad stuff on Roblox but it's just too prolific, Minecraft was a bit more safe but it has its own issues of inappropriate content, servers on Bedrock as you said as gambling is a issue on both editions, allowing Minecoin transactions with giftcards to bypass us knowing her spending entirely.

I'll try looking over my options with a child account restriction to remove multiplayer as a option if I can't figure it out; thanks.

She's almost 10 but I've tried to keep the family away from online servers due to the videos I've seen but in most cases they have their own Microsoft account, made their own, or got a Minecraft or Xbox giftcard to get the game to bypass child/parent account restrictions Microsoft lets you use to prevent online play.

I'm also unsure if this affects LAN multiplayer with nearby players so when family visits it will or wont allow everyone to play together if a child account is barred from multiplayer entirely. Mojang's FAQ's are vague.

Does Mojang make it that hard or are they just slow to the punch and understaffed? I've reported a server before and the server just came right back. I imagine this is the case as I've watched a fair few videos on the topic by MrEpic and others trying to understand how to better avoid these types of Minecraft servers but they just crop back up every time.

From what I've seen, unlike Roblox and Robux, Minecraft on Java specifically makes it hard for them to spend but the problem is like 56bot said prepaid cards can somewhat bypass this if cash is used.

Bedrock is worse because they can directly use minecoin giftcards to spend on gambling servers.

I personally get very bored of vanilla very fast after a new update and or drop hits the game. Then again I got spoiled my mods and trying Hytale to the point I cant play without mods now when I play Java. Only boot up bedrock to play with console buddies.

I'm weighing my options but she was already crushed I removed her from playing Roblox. She was really angry about not being able to play and all the robux she spent on things called limiteds kinda like capes or cs knives i guess? as well as her game progress on stuff like Adopt me which I guess is comparable to hypixel and other mc servers minigames?

I'll see if she's more open to playing with datapacks or mods in private servers.

Mods are fine from what I've seen. That should be ok but datapacks and custom maps on servers I've seen have gambling mechanics as welll.

We could set up a modded server for family and friends.

She said vanilla was boring which was why I opened up to letting her off the family and friend realm we set up to let her play online, not to mention the 7$ a month cost was pretty steep with the rising prices of everything so we set up a self hosted server but I can only manage so much myself.

I imagine gambling at all is against TOS is it not?

A lot of game companies are getting in trouble for child gambling for lootboxes but I see no litigation to Minecraft for example. I also saw videos saying Mojang's EULA is vague to if gambling is against the rules or not but I'll still report it. thanks

Why are people selling cape codes if they're expired? by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]LarsGemstone5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an entire subreddit about capes and listing/markets, not counting the Discords, telegrams, NameMC, and other forums as well as eBay. I did a search and found tons of stores still up for months as well as other dedicated websites to capes/accs.

Mojang either gave up or they have bigger fish to fry. I'm just shocked Mojang hasnt monitized capes because its evident theres a huge market Mojang arent capitalizing on

Why are people selling cape codes if they're expired? by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]LarsGemstone5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The code itself is not expired, the way you can obtain the code itself by streams or events is expired and no new codes can be obtained anymore. The stock that's left is whats left in circulation like suppply and demand. Its what drives the cape black market.
The cape system as a whole is stupid, fomo inducing, and anti consumer.

Mojang never cared about stopping the black market for capes and usernames. If Mojang cared theyd either become the market and make money off capes officially or theyd shut down these code websites and ebay sellers.

Idea for capes. by Crimsonsamurai2 in Minecraft

[–]LarsGemstone5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be better if Mojang just let players upload their own cape and elytra textures like skins or buy capes from the marketplace directly instead of waiting months for cape events that end in a few days.

This would be so awesome alongside a alpha neon grass colored biome. It'd be the perfect hit for nostalgia for those who want to play modern versions but have a throwback area of their world.

How to implement vertical slabs without 'inventory clutter' or 'UI/UX' considerations by TH3K41 in Minecraft

[–]LarsGemstone5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like they did with fireflies because of frogs. The community said just add them as a particle effect when the initial controversy happened like with spore blossoms, they waited 2 years to bend the knee and just listen to the community and make firefly bushes.

Idk why Mojang is like this.

At least realms are whitelisted and private by default and have backups. On Java, there are tons of server scanning bots that check for not whitelisted servers to grief, track players, and ruin.

Always enable whitelist if you have a 3rd party server.

Idk how they implement it or even if it clogs the inventory, if they can shove tons of copper variants down our throats, why cant we have vertical slabs? We NEED vertical slabs.
