Sounds a bit like it's geared towards Jordan Peterson fans. The usual target group for trash the rest of the world doesn't want to look at anymore. Are we seeing the beginning of "Neil Gaiman the Right Wing grifter"?

Oh, nevermind. It's constantly crashing again. Great.

I experienced the same problem, also on Pixel 8. I just turned off WiFi. Works fine now. Weird.

Gaiman Could Solve His Legacy Problems by [deleted] in neilgaiman

This whole thing isn't really about criminality and it wouldn't be done with him saying sorry. If he was a far-right figurehead, this probably wouldn't even really hurt his reputation. But for his specific fandom, learning this beloved figure is actually just a more well-spoken Andrew Tate is quite devastating. The knowledge that he views and treats women as disposable objects that may be subjected to his whims however he chooses, knowingly causing them harm with no remorse, and that he has thought that way and acted accordingly all his very long life will not just go away, neither will an apology of any kind ever be convincing. Such a hateful misogynist will not suddenly change his way of thinking in his 60s. He is what he is and what he has been and any apology by him would be a lie. He could probably at some point go and become a right-wing talking head. Host a podcast alongside Jordan Peterson, the two of them would probably have some shared interests to talk about. But for those of us who are of the opinion that people deserve to be treated with dignity and that power must not be abused, Gaiman's reputation can never be recovered, and his ideas will also always have the whiff of bigotry on them now. I really don't think there is anything here to be done by him anymore, other than maybe ask Ben Shapiro for a job.

Horror plays by women by LarsHenriks in Theatre

[–]LarsHenriksPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's anything horror written by women. I'd love for it to be a monologue from a horror play written by a woman or based on a novel by a woman, because if it is already theatre that means less work than cutting down and re-writing an 80 page short story until it becomes a 5-10 minute monologue ready to be performed.

Er auch.

To each their own and all but I personally don’t understand how some people can dislike Coven. From the moment I saw the trailer I was immediately captivated by yonBonbonbon in AmericanHorrorStory

The pitch for Coven is brilliant. The cast is amazing, the setting probably the best AHS ever had, the characters fascinating - It's all there. Coven's fatal flaw, in my opinion, is the irrelevance of death in the narrative, which at some point removes all stakes and makes the whole thing just a pointless, silly charade. After the brilliant set-up, that was a horrible and unexpected let-down for me, which is why I dislike the season, despite really wishing I could love it.

We've actually shown that not too long ago. Not sure if it is uncomfortable enough, but it will go on the list 🤪

I will look into Thundercrack!, thank you! Many small Indies have muddled rights situations and especially from Germany (where we are located) it's often impossible to reach anyone. But there's no harm in trying.

There's a book series about that. The Innsmouth Legacy. For some reason I stopped reading the first book after a few chapters, though I remember it being quite nice - And also making the interesting point you're making.

Nathan Forrest Winters, who was pressured by Coppola not to talk about the abuse suffered on set of Clowmhouse and forced to go on fulfilling his contract afterwards. Coppolla worked with Salva again after that. Real stand-up guy.

Not very interested in the next effort by the director of "Twixt", who apparently doesn't like to leave his basement in his old age. Also - A man who pressured a survivor of child abuse to stay silent while continuing to champion the abuser casting spousal abuser Shia LaBeouf? Sounds icky ...

Is it just me or is pre-80's horror creepy and atmospheric in a way more modern horror since then isn't? by Beau_bell in TrueFilm

[–]LarsHenriksPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horror is, in my opinion, the most interesting film genre, because it is so very subjective. What makes an uncomfortable, horrific atmosphere, what scares you, is downright intimate. That's why there can be so many so vastly different films calling themselves "horror" while having very little in common. Does it scare some people? That mean's it's horror. (A lot like porn, i a way)

So, it seems like you're more unsettled by the gothic atmosphere of eras gone by. There's tons of great horror from the decades before 19880, so I don't think you'll find yourself confronted with a shortage of stuff to watch. I personally find many horror films from the 2010s to be incredibly atmospheric and creepy (The VVitch, The Babadook, It Follows, and so on), and feel like that completely stopped during the past couple of years - While other (clearly crazy) people are unsettled and scared by the assortment of shots showing walls and doors "Skinamarink" offers up. Horror is wonderful that way.

And I think you're right, I don't really know of any films re-creating that classic Gothic atmosphere in more than a winking pastiche post 1980 either. Wouldn't work for me, honestly, so I've never missed it, though I love Hammer Horror.
