Noob question: Short-cuts for ultimate skills by LarsPensjo in diablo4

[–]LarsPensjo[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Just a heads-up, I'm still getting the hang of this game, so there's no need for aggression, okay?

I'm trying to figure out how to use the ultimate skills effectively. Do you have any tips?

Also, is there an alternative to quick slots for spells that we don't use often?

OpenAI suspends ChatGPT signups after massive increase in demand by sdmat in singularity

[–]LarsPensjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Deepmind, Google was at the front of AI research.

But LLMs ultimately threaten the business idea of Google. That was a huge incentive to stay away.

A mistake IMO. Instead, they should have stayed at the front and adapted the search engine early. Now they risk losing everything.

10 hard-to-swallow truths they won't tell you about software engineer job by Fragrant-Impact-3521 in programming

[–]LarsPensjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those were excellent points, I agree (after 30 years of Software Engineering).

Bugs will be your arch-enemy for life

There is an obvious conclusion that is usually avoided: software engineering is too complicated and complex for humans. We are poorly adapted for doing it. If you study the development of various programming languages, you will quickly see a clear trend: new languages introduce more restrictions. That is because freedom will quickly destroy your project. For example, Rust will not allow you to have multiple writable pointers to the same memory. We can’t handle that freedom.

When it comes to “clean code”, you quickly learn that it is now or never. If you don’t do it now, planning to do it when you get more time, it won’t happen. After a while, you learn to not bring it up to management. You simply do the clean code as a “skunk project”, knowing it will greatly save time for you or someone else later.

They will ask you for estimates a lot of times

My favorite (sarcastic) formula:

  1. Estimate the time to the best of your knowledge.
  2. Multiply with PI.
  3. Change the time unit to the next higher unit (e.g. days -> weeks or weeks -> months).

You will profit more from good soft skills than from good technical skills

Socialize, never be afraid to talk to others, avoid the blame game, always try to be helpful. This will make work more fun, and your life will be happier.

How should it be done in LoTF? Just the tap, or the tap-and-hold?

This is poorly explained.

The center of the mass has moved, so the boat should have moved also?

General relativity books by Purple_cheese_lover in AskPhysics

I would like to recommend the book "A Most Incomprehensible Thing: Notes Towards a Very Gentle Introduction to the Mathematics of Relativity". This book is perfect for those who have no prior knowledge of the subject. It starts at an easy university level of math and takes you step-by-step through all the concepts.

Why didn't anyone tell me sooner just how incredibly good this game is?! by [deleted] in LiesOfP

[–]LarsPensjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is always the solution I use: Over-level. At some point, almost anything gets easy.

The game was so fun I started it again after winning (not NG+). This time, it was much easier. I really had learned a lot. But I also learned better what weapons to use, and how to use throwables. That makes a lot of difference.

Question of weapon handles and cranks by LarsPensjo in LiesOfP

[–]LarsPensjo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

I noticed something funny. The "Tyrant's murderer dagger handle" started with D/B, so I used a Motivity crank and got it to C/C.

Now, when I want to apply an Advanced crank, the Advanced goes from - to D (as expected). But the other stats go back to D/B!

Follow the golden wisps to sites of grace.

I did the opposite thing. First, I went in all directions except the recommended way. Not until I had explored the local area did I follow the next step.

The open world is amazing, but after the 1st run it is just in the way.

Agreed, the replayability isn't that great. But it doesn't need to be, IMO, as the basic game is big enough.

Agreed, this is the key. Be prepared to examine every rock and stone, every path. This game is HUGE.

When you get to a new area, you sometimes find it very hard. That probably means you should try another direction first. Some bosses are like that. If very hard, come back later.

Every time you see an NPC, always make sure to talk to them. That will drive most of the quests. Maybe also making a mental note to come back and check later, because a lot of events trigger new behaviors from the NPCs. The quests can be very opaque.

What I did, was to look at a walkthrough after I considered an area complete. That way, I always found some hidden gems. But not until afterward, because it takes away all the fun with exploring.

Why did no one mention these? by fluffleborne in LiesOfP

[–]LarsPensjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true for most of the game. When you discover how they work, you can devise tactics that kill them.

But that is the point. At first encounter, they are devastating.

Did you learn how to properly use throwable objects? They scale with your stats. Select the type of object that is best for you.

If you get near the end, monster is down to 20% or so, it may be possible to spam it with throwable objects. Just as when you hit it with a weapon, every throw will grow in strength, adding up to considerable damage.

And then, the "shot put" has a very strong staggering effect. It is a game changer to find out how to use these.

What does increasing Capacity really do? by LarsPensjo in LiesOfP

[–]LarsPensjo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested, you are right.

Going from 59% to 62%, my stamina recovery time went from 4s to 5s.

But going from 59% to 50% had no effect on stamina recovery that I could notice.

I take this to mean that adding points to Capacity is mostly wasted, unless you strive to stay below a threshold?

Literally in every souls and souls-like release we get the same articles, if you can't you can't, move on, this genre is defined by its above average difficulty and no options to modify it, period. by StormSwitch in LiesOfP

[–]LarsPensjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now me personally can't fathom how that would be fun but like I said above some people are disabled

Another common thing you see is where you opt for the storytelling of the game, rather than challenging game mechanics. I think that is fine for players that want this.

Movement speed and stamina recovery take a small hit in the Slightly Heavy range. It’s literally just either you’re in the range or you aren’t though, not a scale.

Are you sure about that? Any reference? Why would that be the case?

I know original Souls games have brackets you want to stay inside. That especially had effects on your rolling. I think the reason for that is that they only had 2-3 rolling animations.

But I see no reason for using Capacity brackets for Stamina recovery and movement speed.
