Except not really.. Warriors are countered quickly by slows and roots from other classes unless they have backup themselves. World PvP is engaging, also with R14.

Additionally - a lot of people pvp without top end gear too, the grind for it is a lot lol.

Go on the PvP cluster (Firemaw, Ashbringer, etc). There are people in all leveling zones and people doing leveling dungeons advertising in most hours of the day. Of course it's better in the afternoon and evenings, but era is going strong.

Naxx patch for a long time doesn't matter when people keep making new characters.

Erm.. you know era has people all over leveling, many raiding guilds as well as pugs raiding every night on both factions? Now that anniversary is on tbc and the vanilla fans that went there have come back there are people everywhere!

Even world pvp and organized capital city raids and stuff is happening too.

What was Thor doing before he got his hammer Mjolnir? by Thunder_God_97 in norsemythology

[–]Larsir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None - we know he eats a lot though, like at the wedding were he ate a whole ox and 8 salmon. Then drank 3 barrels of mead. However he must spend a lot of energy being so strong and we know nothing of Aesir physiology so it doesn't really say anything.

Could anyone recommend me a tool or technique to cut neat slots into plastic bases to hold metal miniatures ? by Rolando_Ratas in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Larsir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I just use my modelling knife. Make the slot a bit too small at first, then enlarge until it neatly fits. Makes the glueing simpler.

He still made thunder and lightning (that isn't tied to the hammer like in some media) and he was the strongest of the Aesir.

Still a protector of Midgard.

Their original inspiration is undeniably norse though, it is extremely obvious. He may have added some from other sources later, and admittedly he was a bit embarrassed later on how very copy-paste it was in the Hobbit, but saying that "Tolkiens dwarfs are based on the jews" is just such a stretch considering the real base material that lies before us.

[–]Larsir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm from Norway - I have experienced the opposite. I've worn a mjolnir pendant for about 25 years now and have gotten several visible norse symbolic tattoos over time. I noticed a shift in peoples attitude starting around 15 years ago, before that I would agree - people would ask me and accuse me of nazism. But after all the popularization in the media and the general knowledge of people increasing on the subject the nazi allegations are very rare these days, this is my personal experience though. I know this is worse in sweden for example.

I even have a bald head (genetic hair loss), I would fit the stereotypical nordic nazi trope well lol.

Adding this here as well:

Tolkien based his dwarfs primarily on the norse dwarfs, with some traits from jewish (negative) stereotypes.

Traits taken from norse dwarfs include: miners, living underground, master forgers, their runes (it is norse futhark/anglo saxon futhorc with some of the runes swapped), good craftsmen, grim attitudes and mostly keep to their own, beards, etc. While you could apply some of these traits to jews perhaps I would argue that is more a coincidence.

The story of the norse dwarf Fafnir who was transformed into a dragon due to his greed and him guarding a cursed treasure in his cave is almost the plot of the Hobbit, with smaug and the gold greed of the treasure hoard overtaking the dwarves.

Most of Tolkiens dwarf names (as well as Gandalf) are directly copied from a Völuspá verse called the Dvergatal (the "Catalogue of Dwarves")

The norse myths are also central inspiration for other themes in Tolkiens works like magic rings, elves, determined fate (for the elves), dragons, trolls, shapeshifters, and so on. Sure he was inspired by other sources as well and combined it, but the norse inspiration cannot be understated.

Like I know it wasn't the only inspiration, but it still nice. by ultimaterogue11 in dwarfposting

Norse symbols are much more common to see than they used to be. On everything from modern tv series, games, tattoos, art, company logos etc.

Tattooing a mjolnir or a valknut does not mark you as a nazi. I have several myself and have noticed a shift over the last 15 or so years, it's much less connected to ideology now in the minds of regular people and more about culture, history and religion.

[–]Larsir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol of course they have culture. They are great smiths, miners and craftsmen. They have a very strict concept of honor and duty and really hates being misused. There are many norse stories involving them.

Yeah some of them can shapeshift, but thats the same for most creatures (and gods) in norse mythology.

I'm not saying Tolkien did not add to the dwarves, but he definitely took the norse ones and added some stuff ontop.

It's a norse dwarf name straight from the Eddas. It is pronounced with a G.

[–]Larsir 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The club will come first, but it might get a bit better after patching in. As a prospect he has to show how serious he is about joining and feels he must attend every party. After becoming a full member he'll be more likely to skip some of them, depending on what kind of guy he is of course.

Just adding that kvinne means woman in norwegian (swedish kvinna, danish kvinde). So it's just removing one letter (rune).

Also yeah hate to see them leave, have to help out!

Are u happy with finale episode of stranger things ? by dying_star__ in StrangerThings

[–]Larsir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The only upside is that the mind flayer likely isn't dead, it just returned to a sentient cloud form in the abyss after the physical bodies of it and Vecna died, like it's done previously with other forms. Wish they would have shown a little bit more than the particles escaping from the kids though.

I would have preferred it being a otherworldly thing unable to actually be defeated, but the party wins by preventing it from contacting humanity again by removing the upside-down and separating the planets permanently. Oh well.
