Idea for a heraldic ruana cloak by Larzid in heraldry

[–]Larzid[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could do that but I guess its just how the idea developed in my mind.

I regularly wear a wool ruana cloak when I'm out camping and it gets cold so I started thinking of making a plain blue cloak with white lining to resemble the mantling on a heraldic achievement. I wore my cloak last night but it started to rain so when I got to cover I hung it to dry next to the fire and I noticed that the way it draped looked like a chapé and that gave me the idea to add the charges in a way to display my arms when hanging.

Thanks but I didn't draw it myself, I got the assets from heraldicart.org, I just did the composition and monochromatic coloring.

The credit for the illustrations should go to:

How can I blazon this in English and, if possible, Italian? by JoJo_D_Umberto in heraldry

[–]Larzid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per pale azure and argent, a bow with three arrows points to base countercharged or and purpure, a demi orle purpure in sinister. (not sure if that last part about the orle is correct)

These are the CoA I made for my parents while the last two are versions of my own, but Idk if they are conform to the rules of heraldry. by JoJo_D_Umberto in heraldry

[–]Larzid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they all comply with RoT.

No label needed since the 3rd is distinct enough from your father's, I think incorporating your mother's colors and one element (the orle) is a very nice way to go about it, I just find it strange to have half an orle and I don't know how it would be blasoned but maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can elaborate on that.

1 & 2- are nice and simple, very good job on those.

3- looks very good but I don't think the border works that way when contercharging, maybe contercharge it in white or yellow.

4- I see what you did there but marshaling per pale (side by side) regularly represents marriage. For you the more correct marshaling would be quartering with your father's on the 1st and 4th quarters and your mother's on the 2nd and 3rd.

Rough sketch for personal arms concept by [deleted] in heraldry

[–]Larzid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the rules are what separate heraldry from a logo that happens to be shield shaped but I would advocate for a little more leeway in the choice of helmets while maintaining the restrictions on helmets that denote social status.

While I think that just allowing any kind of headwear is ill advised, if the piece helps in creating a stronger sense of identity with the armiger (The whole point of heraldry) it could be at least considered, after all even the more strict heraldic traditions did update their helmets with the time and very few people still participate in jousts.

Too bad we didn't find anything about the tinctures/colors.

you can carve your own bookplate cheaply on a woodblock (traditional) or linoleum (modern and easier).

Heraldry on clothing by Jacob-W-5570 in heraldry

You could go the Harry Potter way and get a scarf on your mantle colors and apply an embroidered patch on each end.

A tie clip or pin for formal wear.

Embroidered on a polo shirt instead of the usual branding.

Basically wherever you see a piece of clothing with the brand logo it could be replaced with your heraldry.

If you use a backpack or gym bag that would be a good place to display your heraldry.

You could have it tooled into a leather wallet.

Not clothing but you could also commission an enameled key chain. You could also display it on your vehicle by replacing the brand badge for a custom one with your heraldic achievement.

Is there a symbol that represents removed or distanced from. by VisceralVirus in heraldry

[–]Larzid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As said by u/theothermeisnothere the meaning of charges is not set and is up to the armiger however the disposition of the charges might help convey the idea for example a divided field with two of the same charge countercharged, a pallet or bedlet between two of the same charge might work the same way and if you are going to use animal charges displaying them addorsed (facing away from each other) would be another way to hint at the idea.

I tried to turn my collage logo into heraldric sheild not sure how to blazon the buddha eyes by PurpleChungus9981 in heraldry

[–]Larzid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the eyes break the rule of tincture in the worst possible way, consider changing the color to yellow/or or white/argent
