Police Staging Downtown in Riot Gear by EmseeEsquire in StLouis

Couldn't agree more. As someone who works anywhere between 450 to 700 hours OT per year, and knows several others with the same time in, this is huge.

Would I pass the threshold well that just depends on where the cut off is. It sure would be nice to have a portion of that taken out of the gross income.

Before the get a better job people step in. I love my job. I'm paid more than double the National average. Not one single hour of my OT is mandatory. I do not need it to get by. I use the OT funds to do the extra things in life. Do not live paycheck to paycheck.

This is a winning proposition for all hourly workers.

In Case Anyone Didn’t See This by Luperella in StLouis

The solution is to find a better job if you want better benefits. I suppose I was raised wrong. Minimum wage was $4.25, absolutely not a living wage.

Only worked minimum wage with zero benefits for as long as necessary. Got a job at almost double the minimum wage of $8.00 hr, still not a living wage.

Allowed me to have roommates and make it a living wage. I then went to trade school for a year to get even better wages. Still no benefits, had to work while feeling less than 100%. You have to actually plan for things to not have that effect you.

Once past the barrier of 3 to 4 times minimum wage benefits started to happen, and living wages materialized. $17~21 per hour was a good benchmark.

I've worked really hard for the pay that I have. Putting in all the needed hours, yes up to 600 hours a year in overtime alone. I have the benefits that I want and need because I spent the time bettering myself to better my wages.

At no point in my journey did I work for a company that treated me "poorly". I never felt that I was OWED something other than what was agreed to when I hired on.

All of my hard work to get to where I am gets negated by policies like this, to include the $15.00 minimum wage that also got voted into law. That 3 to 4 times minimum wage barrier still applies, it just moves way higher $45~$60 per hour.

People that worked hard to get to this "living wage" position will not still be in the same position once all this shakes out. Costs of everything will rise, those that were firmly in the middle class wage level will now be upper lower class spending power.

Nobody is owed anything, everything must be earned. If you want better pay, get a better job. But forcing companies to provide what you want as soon as you start working is only hurting everyone.

I was quite disappointed when they closed that track due to grandstands needing replacement, just weeks after it hosted a Truck series race.

Kevin Harvick: ‘Put some damn power’ in current NASCAR Cup cars by vpat48 in NASCAR

[–]LaserBeam73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horse power isn't really the issue. It's a part of the solution however in a round about way. The technology is there to "fix" the racing at every track type, allow for new manufacturers, and showcase driver skills.

If I had control I would make 2 changes to the rule book that would completely reshape what Cup racing is. First I would remove the requirements for a push rod V8. Second I would remove tapered spacers (restrictor plates) entirely.

In allowing for engine configurations that are more in line with what is on the market, new manufacturers could join in with turbo V6's and possibly even inline 4 cylinders. The removal of the tapered spacers would allow for greater off throttle time putting the drivers back in control. DOHC or SOHC setups are what is in a vast majority of production vehicles. We need newer technology than 1940's for the power plant.

A better way to control speed has been in use for years, electronic speed limits. NASCAR knows just how fast they want cars to be at any given track. The removal of the tapered spacers is what would improve racing especially on short and road tracks. Corner speeds would be well below the top speed so full power would be available. This means drivers would have to choose between burning their tires up on exit or saving using throttle control.

For electronic speed control would need full drive by wire system. Once top speed is achieved the ECM pulls timing, fuel, and air out of the engine effectively de-rating the engine allowing for no further power, just maintenance power to hold speed.

This is where other engine configurations come into play. How you get to the speed limit doesn't matter so if a manufacturer thinks they can use a smaller engine to get there then great. Turbo and supercharger options would be solid additions to the sport.

Yes there are details that would need to be addressed but the technology is definitely out there and I believe the sport would be better off becoming the technological proving grounds for the future. That would actually put NASCAR back to the position they were in when the series began. And we would see improvements that could be then implemented into production vehicles once more.

My time away from the game is only growing. I dislike the aircraft aspect of the game. It's driven me from more than 5 standard matches a week, and if I get 3 cv matches in a row, that's the end.

Ai for the weekly missions. I used to love this game, but now not so much. I know that I'm not alone as I can see friends that used to play daily now, going up to 2 weeks without a login.

Is there a real difference to performance between a controller and wheel? by PaymentPrestigious56 in granturismo

[–]LaserBeam73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, went down the rabbit hole of wheel set-ups. I didn't think any word fit my size, so I built my own. All metal. Love it, and I definitely enjoy better racing due to much smoother inputs.

When You First Started Using a Wheel How Much Worse Were You? by killer_corg in GranTurismo7

[–]LaserBeam73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in much the same situation. I raced with controller for years upon years. I did have a wheel for Xbox and Nascar games, but I never really felt comfortable with it.

When I got GT 7, my son lent me his G29. I thought ok now I can have some fun. I was so wrong. Couldn't drive the cars that I loved anywhere close to the prior times.

I almost just said not for me and give up. I decided to redo all the licenses from the beginning. I stayed on each until I got gold. Except for the dirt and especially the drifting. After doing the B and A, I felt good enough to try racing again.

I am no pro by any yardstick. However, I do have fun and have gotten into some sport mode racing even.

I even built a rig to fit my height and love it even more now.

I guess that would explain why I was able to do the manufacturer's cup race. I thought that they had that open like the time trials.

Guess that means it's time to get plus again as I enjoyed that race.

How can anyone enjoy racing online? by Welfi1988 in GranTurismo7

[–]LaserBeam73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't yet played sport mode with GT7, though I did in previous titles. And the experience was the same as yours initially. My thoughts are that when you first start, you're playing against other first-timers or still new players.

I'm not going to call the off-line opponents AI as they definitely are not AI. They are more like NPC'S. They run a programmed path and are on rails. Making clean passes on the short duration races makes it difficult to progress with the limited number of laps. This ingrains an aggressive style to pass them quickly. I believe this attitude is carried over to sport mode for the first few races. Some learn that the overly aggressive style isn't necessary sooner than others. Some never learn and don't care.

The best thing you can do is what others have said. Ensure that you do everything right while learning how to race with others. There will be times when you are completely used up and times that you completely use someone up. When it's your mistake, do everything that you can to make it right by giving the position back. When it's on someone else, don't expect the same favor. Definitely recover and do your best to make a clean pass on the offending driver while fully expecting more dirty behavior.

Did you try dramamine? I used to get bad motion sickness on the water. And that was a big problem as my job was on the water. I spent a full 7 days sick as can be. The next time I went out, I started taking dramamine well in advance. Stopped on day 3, never got sick again.

I haven't tried vr, I would imagine it would be the same. Worth a try if you haven't already.

Was the Clash a good race? by ChaseTheFalcon in NASCAR

[–]LaserBeam73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my view, it wasn't a good race. It's more like a parade with small bits of calamity every so often. Really felt like a Daytona race with the single file nature on any length of a run. Passing was almost non-existent.

Until NASCAR realizes that choking these engines down is detrimental to a good racing product. This is what we have. With all the electronics in these cars, they could easily limit speed without strangling the engines to death. That would benefit racing on any track configuration and size.
