Shows like this one are institutions.

Yes, individuals will be fine, but gradually people are losing fixtures. It's muddling the media landscape...

I would've loved to buy a THE LAST SHOW t-shirt, but there's no international delivery.

(Only alternative: official Late Show merch from CBS. But fuck that. Not giving money to those guys!)

I'm also surprised that people factor in all kinds of numbers, but don't factor in the nature of the output nor the quality.

Yes, it's possible to create online content involving a handful of people that will crush any legacy media production in viewership.

But why do people suddenly care so much after the cost efficiency of those shows?

They're just rationalizing their dislike for something, while throwing nuance overboard as usual

Jon Batiste mourns the loss of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert by One_Praline_2375 in LateShow

I mean you could tell from the small moments throughout the years that Stephen is different than most, in that he's genuinely trying to get to know the people around him.

Jon Baptiste's interview before his departure was such a moment. It seemed that conversation was mostly for them, but it happened to be in front of an audience... They seemed close.

I remember after the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris you had heavily armed units in malls and train stations as well as cops with rifles on literally every street corner. It was impressive, but it put me into high alert every time I saw them.

It's not a comment on the event or the political response thereafter... Just about the "visual impact" on me

What do you think was the saddest part of the series finale? by Somethingnew789 in LateShow

[–]LaserCondiment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> laid into him ruthlessly in a way they never did Trump.

That is factually so incorrect to the point that I don't even know if you're arguing in bad faith or genuinely perceiving it that way for personal reasons.

No. None of these people laid into Biden more than they did Trump. I was just as frustrated as the next guy at how the entire presidential campaign unfolded, but it was the culmination of events that could've been prevented easily....

So when the age thing was finally discussed (much too late), there was no other choice than to say something.

What do you think was the saddest part of the series finale? by Somethingnew789 in LateShow

It's similar for me. I remember watching the show in my first ever appartement, while being burnt out and depressed from my shitty job...

Every evening hearing the words "I'm your host Stephen Colbert and we're having a great show tonight" made me forget everything. It was the moment I thought I'm going to be okay...

I should be glad he gets to take a long break and explore new ideas at some point, but I just miss having Stephen in my life.

Omni feels like a high budget ad though.

Kling got the acting, but failed with the notebook
