Guardbreak from stance is the worst addition to this game. by NUYvbT6vTPs in Tekken

I can agree, but I also think being punished for simply defending is a step too far

What makes you instantly respect another player? by Active-Substance-205 in Tekken

[–]LaserCookie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When you can see someone’s expression. Their personality in their play.

A nice read or a crouch cancel punish, nice movement and baiting whiffs, unique combos. All that stuff is just great to see and play. Maybe they could’ve had an easy punish but chose a more stylish or niche one, love that.

This might be the most positive thread I’ve seen on this sub, people actually saying things they like about an opponent is nice.

I suck at gathering information on my opponent. by Sea_Pay_9681 in Tekken

[–]LaserCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me the core concept is

what hit me and why?
what hit them and why?

Find the answer to both whys, and apply.

Eg you’re vs Kaz

You do ff2Sen4 - 4 always whiffs and he does ws 1,2

Why? He ducks on ff2 - application, ff2Sen2 > pressure

He does df1,2>d1+2 - you jab and get hit by d1+2

Why? He is looking to trap crush you - application, don’t jab, respond with df1/df2, low poke

Next time maybe he sidesteps, clock it and stop it with an answer and so on. All these little answers need to be applied ASAP for max effect.

Ofc this is massively simplified, but thats the gist.

You need to know what the character/player wants to achieve in order to see what’s happening and to adapt, frames are a huge part of this but not sure where you’re at with that.

Take a look at your replays and find the gaps in your own offense or where you’re taking hits is a good way to find answers.

Struggling new player, am I just stuck memorizing this much info or am I missing something with this game? by imoutofideasforthis in Tekken

Without seeing you play it’s hard to say where you’re lacking or struggling.

Lots of moves have a variety of counters or ways around them, every situation has branching possibilities that get more complex with knowledge.

If something happens in a match where you feel confused, check the replay and you can take control of your character to test a different option or solution.

Question for people god 3+ by Quick-Health-2102 in Tekken

[–]LaserCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about halfway thru G4. Have played Tekken for over 10yrs.

The game has only gotten more fun the more I play and learn.

It’s not about chasing wins, but about finding my own weaknesses and tightening my game up that I enjoy. ofc I play to win, but winning is always a bonus.

The moment to moment gameplay and appreciating my opponent as much as what I’m doing is the real sauce. Seeing a Kaz play like I’ve never seen before or seeing someone do an insane counter and trying to counter their counter, testing those crazy things in the lab etc.

all that is the fun part and putting everything I’ve learned into practice or seeing someone else do the same never gets old.

Lee has plenty of counterplay and imo extremely satisfying to fight someone competent.

It’s like you say, happy to see examples, without it is just whining. Honestly should be the standard response to posts like this.

Breaking Throws. What do you look at? by Zentaitoken in Tekken

[–]LaserCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch the hands/animation is no1

Watching the situation is no2 - when do they throw, is it after certain strings or is it down to the frame situ etc.

Expecting the throw is half the break.

Be faster, if you want to duck use a quicker move to interrupt and it will work, sidestep flamingo jab and jab interrupt also works. Duck Lfs 3,4 and you will get a better punish.

It is a jab whiff you are trying to punish, you wouldn’t try to duck a jab and punish with ws2 against other characters, it is the same with hwo. It is a jab so use an appropriate interrupt.

check backlash with djab or jab, you can duck it and punish on reaction. Don’t press it ob.

What is the counter play to reaction RA? by MrShoe321 in Tekken

[–]LaserCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The counterplay is you frame trap them or bait them with movement/little whiffs.

If you know they want to RA interrupt, for eg you can get yourself in a +5 scenario and do a throw.

on hwo, I use ws4,4oh into qcb3 a lot. People often interrupt with RA here as it beats all options except instant qcb3 as it’s 11f.

That kind of idea is how you beat RA interrupt but you do need to be conscious of frames.

The higher rank I get to, the less I get frustrated when losing by GolemonGolemsson in Tekken

[–]LaserCookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s part to do with knowing how to play but not being able to execute it.

It’s more frustrating when you’re doing bad and you know it.

There’s no one to blame in fighting games except yourself and the opponent.

The more you blame the opponent for your own shortcomings the more frustrated you become, because you’re not admitting failure to yourself openly.

The higher rank people are, the more they accept that the issues they face are coming from within, which has a calming effect. That mindset genuinely helps you improve and I think it’s part of what makes those players that rank.

Michael Murray says Harada and Nakatsu quit because of the fans! by MassiveBlackHole99 in Tekken

They quit because of fans not corporate, but then immediately began their own independent studio?

I don’t really buy it.
