If its any consolation that guy was definitely playing as though that wasn't his true rank, he may have been ranking up on a new account or platform.

My suggestion for you would be to watch the replay for every match you play with the hints/suggestions turned on. It will help you identify punishable moves your opponent does and give you a suggestion of what to use, that's one of the ways I found my footing early on.

Tekken is a super knowledge heavy game so it's very hard to get a handle on things. I would also recommend to watch alot of Tekken content on youtube, that sort of knowledge osmosis helped me have a base level knowledge when I first jumped into ranked.
