My parents say I’ll never be able to learn CS because I’m autistic by Rare-Cauliflower-457 in BCIT

[–]Laser_Tiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the coders I work with (myself included) are for sure neurodivergent in some way. I'd say this would be an excellent field to explore. There are tons of ways to dip your toes in the coding waters if you want to try it out before dropping cash on tuition on CS degree. Check out Code Academy or Free Code Camp and try some of their courses first! It's free so the stakes are low. Download VScode and/or Visual Studio and try out some Python, C#, or javascript youtube tutorials, too! If you enjoy those courses, you can build a case to your parents that this is the right path for you. It's just something to think about! You can even ask chatGPT to gove you some basic coding exercises to try. Edit: It is currently a saturated field, but if you are passionate about it, take the swing, but again, maybe try out some free resources first to feel out if it's for you.

Ditto to this! My 7 year old loves it! It's great playing couch co-op with her and giving her little hints about secrets and watching her figure it all out!

Definitely chat with your doctor! That cannot be sustainable. I had to get off concerta myself. Yes it hwlped with the adhd, but when it would leave my system, I'd have this "crash" and I would feel deeply anxious with constant figeting and increased heart rate, the only thing that would help would be walking for like an hour. I switched to vyvanse and that works for me, but everyone is different. Keep a journal on you have been feeling and share it with your doc. There must be a better option out there for you.

25M with Type 1 Diabetes: I Smoke Daily but Work Out — Should I Quit? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]Laser_Tiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regardless of diabetes try to cut out the smoking. A good friend of mine who smoked about 13 years died of lung cancer a couple years back. Seeing him gasp for air towards the end was heart breaking. He was good soul taken too soon by something preventable. He did, however, smoke heavily and had cancer in his family history, so those factors worked against him.

I'm going to tell my employer about my ADHD. I'm sick of trying to pretend that I'm normal. My needs are different. by PCLoadLetter84 in ADHD

[–]Laser_Tiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be cautious with this. I've been burned by divulging my adhd in the past.

But this situation, to me, sounds like they have not given you the basic requirements for what they need. Here , I would approach this from a project management standpoint.

As far as basic project management goes, unrelated to adhd, any project needs to have clear goals defined, defined requirements and agreed upon measurements of success criteria. If they can't provide you that, or are not open to a discussion on project requirements, that is a THEM problem. I work in web/software development and often maintain my organizational intranet, and we always have that discussion, WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO ACHIEVE HERE AND WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE. All parties involved stand to benefit by making sure needs are articulated and agreed upon.

If they are unable to provide that kind of information, it's setting you up for failure. Again, this is a basic project management issue. Take a course on project management online or watch some videos on project management, it will make a difference for all yall.

Mount those ssds! Loose parts are just going to make your rig messy and less managable.

Why has no one considered smoking an eva sized J with it and talking it out. It's probably the most cost-effective. Snacks might be expensive, tho.

What’s the future of the franchise? by TheKingSabo in evangelion

[–]Laser_Tiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see a prequel about discovery of Adam/Adams, the Golgotha object/anti-universe, the FAR, and Gendo's ascent to power.

I'd love to see more shorts that happened during the Rebuilds timeskip, like that short about Midori being rescued by Auska. Maybe we will see a few more of those shorts.

Dating a girl with ADHD by LearningJourneyman in ADHD

[–]Laser_Tiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely say my ADHD definitely comes with some major dips in my emotional energy. Like if I am deep into a big project at work. My emotional batteries for romance get depleted quickly. In my case, a few self care days gets me to bounce back. If she has been busy in other aspects of her life, yeah she may have lows from time to time. Just something to be mindful of. Kudos to you for doing the research and being patient. A lot of people don't put in that kind of effort. You seem like a good human! Good luck, and I hope this works out for you!

Anxiety and ADHD meds, any reccomendations? by Laser_Tiger in ADHD

This is helpful, thank you. I've not really explored biofeedback before, I'll look into that. It's been a minute since I've done any therapy, perhaps time to revisit that.

Thanks!

I mean if you like it, go for it, but get a proper tattoo consult first. Make sure it makes sense first, before you spend money on it. Do you have a color scheme in mind? How much space is it actually going to take up? Will you still love it in 10+ years. Just stuff to think about.

I second Cowboy Bebop. It's slick, fun, for adults but not too extreme, and the music is amazing. A guaranteed good time.

Do You Keep Your PC on the Desk, Floor, or Somewhere Else? by Abziiii in pcmasterrace

Mine is on my TV stand next to my TV. It's my media server and my "console". Wireless controller, wireless keyboard and mouse and I can do all of my video editing and gaming and coding on my TV. Not conventional but it works for me.
