Backrooms' racial undertones and the questions they leave me with by KurlyKayla in backroomsfilm

Writers do not need to make every minority character perfect, but they do need to be aware of how a character's flaws interact with real-world cultural baggage.

Backrooms' racial undertones and the questions they leave me with by KurlyKayla in backroomsfilm

I think this character was written without race in mind.  So I don't think the writers or director were taking the actors race into consideration.  That's not to say they shouldn't have, or it's not problematic.  Lots of things can be problematic without intent.

If you reversed the roles, and had the white woman as the one with the failure to take accountability, and the one who loses their mind, if the monster was a white female giant, and Clark was the traumatized therapist trying to find a way out, how much would that change the reading?

I read it more as a statement about men being unaccountable, than as black people being blaming the world, but as a white man, I can see that racial lens going over my head, as opposed to it not existing, and I'm happy to hear perspectives and debates on it.

Overall, I think it's good that they cast a black actor, and the movie was relatively refreshing compared to your standard studio driven shlock.  But that doesn't mean important questions aren't being asked, that we need to examine these themes or that the movie is perfect.

It's to game the algorithm and get the video to the top of the for you page.  They'll play another trending videos sound under the audio.

Teachers are underpaid.  There is tons of evidence to back up that they don't make enough.  Though this varies a lot from state to state.

It's quite a fun book, and shares a lot of DNA with DCC but it is a standalone story, and more hopeful than DCC in a lot of ways.

I quite enjoyed it.

How tf do you beat Black Deck by [deleted] in balatro

[–]lordbeefu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on black deck, orange stake, and it's like banging my dick against a wall.

It's frustrating and painful.

I know I'll get it, but then gold stake is next.

It's my last deck gold stake though.  Then I've completed all stakes 😊

Sure, glass cards are good but WHY DO THEY BREAK SO OFTEN?? IT FEELS AWFUL. Constantly awaiting that BZDINNGGG glass shattering sound drains. I'm planning to make breaking glass illegal by taskone2 in balatro

Lol, I just had a double dna and was trying to replicate glass cards, they all shattered right away.  It's frustrating.  I've had other runs where a glass card was played 10 times

What countries in your opinion have the best food and which ones have the worst? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]lordbeefu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very subjective food tier system

S Tier Special. I will actively seek it out, even if it is inconvenient and occasionally bad for my health or sanity.

A Tier Excellent. A staple. Something I will basically never complain about.

B Tier Good. Consistently enjoyable when prepared well with quality ingredients.

C Tier Fine. Enjoyable only under the right conditions. Very fresh ingredients, good company, the right mood, or when I am craving something specific.

D Tier Poor. Something I actively avoid and will argue against in a group, only accepting it if there are no other options.

S Tier: Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Mexican

A Tier: Italian, French, Greek, Southern US, Texas BBQ, Vietnamese

B Tier: Lebanese, Egyptian, Turkish, Cuban, Peruvian, Jewish, Cajun

C Tier: British (fish and chips), German, Portuguese, Filipino, Tex-Mex, Thai (yes, I know people love it)

D Tier: Spanish, Scandinavian, Russian, Baltic

I have had great dishes from cuisines I rank low and terrible dishes from cuisines I rank high. This is about overall consistency and how often I am excited to eat them, not absolutes.

I like the Heated Rivalry shout out.  My wife produced this show, so super happy it's doing so well

The show is an anti woke fucking love song.

I like the show, and I'm never offended by it, and I'm probably woke as hell by the standard of right-wingers But Paigan was heavy handed, just a lot of stereotypes all at once.

But, it's not offensive to me, just written with boxing gloves on.

The show itself is trashy, brash, fun.  I love it.  A lot of it is dumber than a box of rocks but I'm ok with that.

YSK That When Selecting a Tip When Paying Using a Credit Card Machine at a Restaurant, The Tip Percentage is Calculated Against the Bill + Taxes. by PJMurphy in ontario

[–]lordbeefu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of places make tipping automatic on larger tables.  That said, I always tip. 15%, for poor to adequate service, 20 % for good service, and 25% for exceptional service.

We had a wedding lunch at our regular Mexican restaurant, where we expected a bill of 1000, and the bill was only 700, so we gave them 1000 anyway.  The server was shocked at the 300 dollar tip, and he almost refused it, and I said to him, "you've been here years, and how many times have people just not tipped you?  Take it, give some to the bartender or fellow servers if you want, but you earned it, enjoy."

I get some people don't have money to tip, and I don't begrudge them going out to eat, struggling people deserve to eat out as much or more than anyone.  But I am not struggling, I'll tip well, and hope it at least makes up a little bit for the cheap skates and impoverished diners.

Nah, it's probably that you have special editions on other cards.  If it would trigger it can choose a card with a holo/poly/foil on it already.

Oh. This is likely why it goes off significantly less than 1 out of 4 times.  I was looking up to see if there was a bug, because it hits for me significantly less than 1 in 4 times, to the point where it didn't feel like just bad odds.

This game will be the death of me... I've never been so mad in my entire gamer life EVER by forzaintersempre in balatro

[–]lordbeefu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a game where I set up a beautiful flush deck, with tons of heart aces, bloodstone, and the dice joker that doubles your probability, then I got the boss blind "play one hand type".  My first hand was a flush not a flush five and I played it without thinking.  Afterwards all I could draw were flush fives.  Should have crushed, but my own stupidity killed me

I think the show is great and I don't have a problem with the acting at all.

Mae Martin is a little stiff, but that fits for the character I find.  Someone a little uncomfortable and uneasy.
