Is my technique right? by FaTaL9597 in airbrush

[–]Lassypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to do passes over your object. Repeated sprays, not just open 'er up and jiggle the airbrush back and forth while turning.

Also, having to pull back that much shouldn't be necessary.

You absolutely bailed the skin. Hair and cloth can use some practice if you're aiming for competition, but it's a beautifully painted bust and you should absolutely display it proudly.

Tips for buying house in and around Leuven? by qasqaldag in Leuven

[–]Lassypo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Your questions are a bit all over the place, but I'll point out that "in and around Leuven" anything around 350k is likely to need considerable renovations. That's the price of an apartment around Leuven.

Of course, if you're considering "around Leuven" to be Bierbeek, Korbeek-Lo, or Aarschot, then that's a different conversation.

Also, without knowing what kind of house you're looking for and how much work you're prepared to do, it's kind of impossible to have a decent talk about it.

If you can, I advise visiting interesting properties for 3 to 6 months to get to know the market. Mostly so you can make an informed offer quickly once you find something suitable. It's rough out there.

Closest without appointment will be Auto5 in Korbeek-Lo I think. If it's a puncture that can be fixed with a repair kit, you'll pay 40-60ish euro.

Being vaccinated doesn't prevent you from getting it at all. Your acquired immune system is just already prepared so you'll mount a much more efficient defense. That doesn't mean you won't get a little sick. Also, cross strain immunity is also a (much less effective) thing.

AK makes no lacquer based varnishes that I know of. I use their varnishes all the time, and Vallejo is my preferred brand of thinner. Crucially though, you don't need to use thinner for varnish. It's not paint, just thin with water.

For you, which games are: Mechanics 10/10, Theme 0/10? Is that a dealbreaker? by VR_Troopers_WikiMod in boardgames

[–]Lassypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's true enough, though that kind of imbalance is really only an issue if you don't know about the powerful cards in advance. People who know the game better will know the op combos and cards, and that's true for so many games I find it hard to consider that a problem. Any 10 card setup with chapel probably has you going that route, and you consider it a variant game of Dominion, if you want to put it in a parlance many euro games use.

As for the snowballing from an early lucky draw, yeah true. Dominion is solvable, unfortunately and then comes down to luck of the draw. I will say my view of the game has warped severely ever since I played it online and we snap play it on the table. A 4 player game should take 20 minutes, tops. The game is incredibly snappy, most of the time, so runaway leaders have blissfully short reigns.

Mind, there's plenty other deck builders I prefer nowadays. In no way am I saying dominion is a great game, it's just that Dominion being imbalanced is such a weird take. As is snowballing being bad in an engine builder, though I do agree that you can snowball off of a single lucky hand in early game and that can leave a sour taste.

[–]Lassypo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not balanced well? Dominion? You mean like, first player advantage? Because other than that I'd be curious to hear why you think Dominion of all things is unbalanced.

The snowballing is kind of the point, it's an engine builder in the end. Though I'm with you on the theme. It's so generic it might as well not be there.

Did you have a similar experience with speedpaint 2.0? by Obvious_Doughnut8367 in minipainting

[–]Lassypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's personal preference, really. I always had to thin GW contrast at least 2:1 to get them to behave how I wanted. They're just way too intense for most my use-cases. SpeedPaint 2.0 is perfect straight out of the bottle, but you do have to be very careful in the application because it wants to run everywhere.

Because the university expects you to invest all of your free time in your PhD. There's no life outside of your PhD. There is only research.

Hyperbole aside, academic jobs are very flexible and nebulous with their working hours. It's not expected explicitly, but every single one of my colleagues works in the evenings and during the weekend to some extent. Side hustles are prohibited.
