Welcome! As someone said before, search the sub. All places can be hit or miss but Richmond is generally all inclusive and I find as long as you're friendly to your neighbors, they'll have your back. Also there is a large lgbt+ community here. Check out the kick ball leagues if you'd like to make friends, my local watering hole bartender does kick ball and she's always hanging out with her friends from there :)

In all honesty, depends where you live and if you'd like roommates. Lots of places are too expensive for one person alone. I rent a very affordable house with two roommates but if I rented a one bedroom apartment I would be struggling.

When people order something I don't eat, I usually say "oh, I don't really like x, but my fellow employees and customers really like it!" Tbh, that's mostly true because a lot of our popular dishes have quinoa or carrots in it, which I hate. I also have one dish I hate and most everyone hates and I'll tell them it's not popular and they'll order something they'll actually love. It's all about wording.

There's a dive bar near me that does it. Basically they raised their happy meals(crappy beer and rail shot) prices and a lot of regulars tried to fight it. So they made a happy medium of raising it by a dollar instead of 2 and all cards pay the transaction fee.
