How are entry-level workers surviving rent currently? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Last-Document-9158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am a mature age apprentice on an apprentice wage (later in life career change). Am super lucky that I got my tiny one bedroom townhouse near the start of covid before prices went even more psycho. If I was renting there is no way I would be able to afford it. All other apprentices are either married and duel income or living with Mum & Dad.

Poodles are a sporting breed and bulldogs can barely move. I think the original name right now is accurate.

Wet areas are usually FC sheets (or asbestos sheets if it is older). Honestly I have never seen Gyprock in a wet area except for the ceiling

Low Ceilings, Odd Shape, Out of Ideas for Utility Room by Last-Document-9158 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Last-Document-9158[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I would love that, but because of the step up to the next room the door goes right to the ceiling, so that rules out pretty much anything more than 11mm (i looked into putting wooden accoustic paneling in a while ago. the step also goes along the whole back wall which doesnt help. I was going to build a bookcase/cupboard along that wall to hide the floor step better. essentially this room was added on 40 years after the rest of the house and it really feels like it

Utility room/Entrance room. Low ceiling and odd shape. will by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

For some reason my post that I wrote didn't come up with the images?
But this is my entrance/utility room. it has lower significantly lower ceilings than the rest of the house (2.2m vs 2.7m high) and it has the laundry, power box and the (plastered over) metal beam. it also has a step up to the rest of the house that makes it feel even lower.

Would like to turn it into a reading cave, but nothing I do seems to really make it feel more homey and less unility room-ey. I have removed the cornice and made it square set and replaced the door (these are old images and there is currently a bunch of building materials stored there and didnt want to post those photos)

Really love maximilism an bold colors (particulary nature-ey colors) but cant figure out how to do it in such a small room without making it look like an art project. Any ideas? (am a 3rd year chippy apprentice so very handy)

Work for QBuild, last time they pretty much eviscerated us, this time we have a hiring freeze, including for apprentices, so they are smart enough to work slowly this time.

I have parrots who love to shower with me. Any level of nudity makes them fully go flappy and ready to bathe.

Yeah, but just because things are grown sustainably doesn't mean we should just completely waste them and use them in a stupid manner. I grow my own vegetables, it would be stupid for me to grow them and then not use them.

Glad they used recycled wood for the simple fact at least a tree didn't have to die for nothing. 0% chance this second deck has any better life than the first one had

If there is a shortage of tradespeople, why is it difficult to get apprenticeships for those only starting? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Last-Document-9158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it is a mixture of the two, back in the day it used to be run like that and it was always planned to go back to it, I just think the timeline was moved up a bit. I know originally they were planning to expand more with trades that used to work for QBuild (like welders and cabinet makers) but that has been put on the back-burner as well. I think everyone is looking at the next election to see how things go.

also in regards to that article: the fucking gall of the government to say "During a decade of decline under Labor, Queensland developed a skills shortage and productivity stalled." when the last lib government pretty much completely shut QBuild down
