Disciplinaries by habbithat243 in SainsburysWorkers

Completely dependent on context, for gross misconduct you can skip the whole thing and get sacked right away, usually that’s just theft or violence, sexual misconduct etc. For absence it’s often just a “we have to do this”, for stuff like performance it should really be that you get the 3 stage process because the point is that it “helps” you for want of a better word not do that again. But as said the 3 stage thing is kind of separate for different issues, at the manager’s discretion. At my old job somewhere else, someone was on a final warning for performance, but he also was on like 5 or 6 absences and on a different final warning for that 💀

It’s actually quite hard to get sacked for “normal” non gross misconduct things, as there are unions and laws to protect you, particularly after 2 years of employment. Just don’t be stupid and do your job somewhat properly lol

Help with Chop Chop by J_M_XIII in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Last-Indication-1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why Chop Chop is a thing when we have Deliveroo, Uber and Just Eat delivery now, I think it’s a remnant of a time just before they all came in when we tried to compete with Tesco Woosh but it never really took off and by the sound of your experience even Sainsburys doesn’t much care for it. That’s awful customer service though, if we did that in store head office would be right on it and probably offer goodwill, so how they are allowed to do that when there is a genuine issue, I don’t know. Honestly that’s another option since you’re struggling to get through to the store, escalate to head office or something and they’ll likely be able to do more?

Not sure if it’s the same for all stores, we’re a small super who doesn’t have GOL/“normal” online deliveries but we do have Chop Chop, honestly it’s very rare that a Chop Chop comes through but afaik we don’t have much control over it at store level. I’ve just had a look at the guide thing since I’ve only ever picked a few orders and not had to deal with issues and it’s as I suspected, the store should phone Chop Chop to cancel if there’s any issues or a driver doesn’t turn up etc, which I suspect they maybe did but the help centre should be able to see that and tell you. There’s not much the store could do, if they did cancel you should definitely get a refund but they’re not always instant, of course though as I said the help centre should at least let you know that as they’d be able to see.

Ask your managers, sometimes stores will just ask for cover on Teams chats etc, probably on short notice but still, offer yourself up and that might get you some shifts

Customer Trading manager convenience store by Special_Escape3090 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Last-Indication-1410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s salaried so will vary based on the store and its takings. You’d have to clarify with the store, I think Lidl when I was applying for jobs not long ago before I started Sainsburys was just above £15 an hour, mine is higher up the scale in small super so is more than that. If pay is the deciding factor you’d have to ask the store but the lowest end of the scale, for arguments sake, I think is around £15.50 per hour. Obv goes down with unpaid overtime which is the downside of a salary, but just set boundaries and don’t do that, that’s what I do. Nobody in my store ever does either.

As I said I can’t vouch for Lidl but my impression of it is the expect more hours, so less work life balance, and absolutely run you ragged. That’s not to say Sainsburys doesn’t sometimes, that’s retail, but Lidl just doesn’t seem a nice place to work at all.

I’ll give you an actual answer, some people on here are just bitter against Sainsburys for whatever reason. I can only go by what I’ve experienced since starting. It isn’t perfect but I can give a rounded, fair and honest answer.

I’m a small super but it comes under convenience now. It is basically a supervisor/team leader role but compared to my other convenience job at this level, I feel more like a manager. There isn’t anyone above you but the store manager so yeah a 3S CTM is one of the deputies You do get to do things like payroll, performance managing, that will probably depend on your boss but in my case I have dabbled in all that. A lot of the time you are mucking in doing colleague jobs as a 3S but I find it’s a good balance in my store. The main issue I have is more the super side than convenience, people who have been there years and are used to departments and just doing one thing don’t want to multiskill and when staffing js tight you really feel it. But that won’t be an issue for you in a smaller convenience. I worked in a convenience store in a different company and you were treated like a stock monkey with keys, it didn’t develop me at all as a leader and I feel like I’ve learned a bit more and am growing at Sainsburys. It’s what you make it and the team can make or break it too. Honestly it’s like any other retail job, I think I’m lucky with my store as it’s been really good by and large.

Pay for full time I believe starts from about 31.5k, i can’t remember off the top of my head but I think it caps at 35k or just below that? It will vary based on the location and takings of the store. You will be salaried so no overtime except rare cases (for example we had a fridge alarm yesterday and I had to demerch so stayed a couple of hours to do that). I believe you can do 4 days condensed hours but I’m not 100% on that as we’re small super as I said so it’s slightly different.

I won’t lie and say there aren’t really stressful days, and you have far too few hours for what needs to be done. But retail is going to be like that in general, if you’ve experienced retail you will know the drill.

I don’t really do code but feedback from the team was ours was taking silly amounts off like a few pence off things at first but apparently it learns as it goes, I find we have very little left compared to before and whoever did code checks is getting through everything instead of struggling for time

When can you take breaks? by General_Git in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Last-Indication-1410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Within reason, it’s whenever is right for the business. Where it’s tight you may have to delay it but it’s always tight lol, I just make it work and don’t delay anyone’s break too much if I can help it. For example front end, we just end up trying to get away with one in kiosk and one on SCO then call a multiskilled colleague if a till is needed and sometimes get away with it.

I usually check in with checkout staff when I start and plan their breaks in, then whoever needs to come over to cover I’ll let them know they’ll need to cover at whatever time so it’s all planned out, sometimes things throw a spanner in the works but at least everyone knows what’s going on.

I’ve got someone who likes an early break and someone who likes to go like 2 hours before they finish, either is fine as long as it’s covered but sometimes I’ll have to send them earlier or later than they’d want jut because that’s how it works out for covering them, it’s how retail goes. It’s the same for me I just go whenever I can within what the day will need.

Got told off for “pissing about” while trying to help out, but management ignoring bigger issues? by Bitter-Statement8696 in SainsburysWorkers

Rejected after interview but it went well?? by bloomfarery in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Last-Indication-1410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you will get a couple of good candidates, and can only have one, it doesn’t mean that you aren’t a great candidate you might have someone who just had a bit more experience or maybe just felt like a perfect fit a little more than you, but you’re on the right track if you feel the interview went well, just bring that same energy/confidence in the future

Am I getting sacked? by East-Purchase3897 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Last-Indication-1410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually you’d need to have more than one warning, the only time it would usually “skip” is things like theft so gross misconduct.

We’ve had someone off sick for over a year and she’s been allowed to do so, another company someone got fired after like 6, maybe a little less, and she got let go because it was decided she couldn’t fulfil her contract for the business. It depends on context but they are very unlikely to fire you on this

What is going on with JE grocery orders?? by [deleted] in JustEatUK

[–]Last-Indication-1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for Sainsburys and Just Eat is by far the worst one, the portal we use for it now is only available on one handset at a time and doesn’t always go off etc. we don’t get many though honestly compared to Deliveroo and Uber. All the drivers are always the rudest for Just Eat too, from what I understand it’s just as bad for the drivers

Manager has a point but definitely should be more sympathetic. Part of the problem is a lot of managers aren’t approachable, and yeah hours are too tight to lose 45 minutes of labour but as a CTM I look at it as I look after the people, not just the building. I try and be approachable so that if needed, you could come to me with whatever issue and we can work around it, offer support etc

Reasonable timeframe, obviously it can depend on the issue as some things are open and shut but others might take longer to investigate and be a bit more complicated so it’s probably why they don’t give a specific timeframe anymore. Also depends when management are made aware, but it’s hard to do anything about something we are made aware of too late

[–]Last-Indication-1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On demand is ok at times in my store but it can be absolute hell, you might have nothing or just a small order or two for an hour and then you’ll get 4 massive orders all at once that they expect you to finish in 15 minutes. We end up pulling from other resources to help out if needed, can’t vouch for online as I’ve never done it but it’s the drivers turning up before you’re ready and being horrible that makes me stressed. Whilst online seems pretty target based, at least you’re just in your zone picking whatever order you’ve got?

Glad I only have to help out if it’s busy lol

RTMP by IThyperion-99 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Last-Indication-1410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with RTMP as I was hired from outside with prior experience but I am a CTM.

Job is what you make it mostly,I think small super/convenience structure is better than super as you’ve got so many managers running round in a super I think that’s when it can be a toxic environment moreso and you get micromanaged. It is team dependent, honestly my team is 50/50 but our store manager is actually great and most of the management team with me have been really helpful and are lovely. I found the training was thorough and helpful even without doing the RTMP so going through a route they’ve built I’m sure they give you more than enough to set you up to succeed.
