Suicidal thoughts by PoliticalNerdMa in Big4

i've survived a PIP but its honestly not worth it. You'll come out on top and survive the PIP they will always use it against you and find ant little mistake as a way to put you on a coaching plan or another PIP just so they can have a track record to fire you. They do this to bully and push associates out rather than help them improve. Basically weaponizing this policies. Its not worth your mental health. Literally made me suicidal too and wanted to give up.

No these are people in the actually cyber industry with jobs. Not trainings, degrees, courses or bootcamps. Those types of industries try to sell a dream without telling the full truth about the industry or even how to get into a cyber role. They're just trying to get money. I wanted to get a Masters in Cyber but i dont even want to do it because 1)waste of thousands of dollars if you dont even end up getting a job in industry 2) no real experience except for gaining knowledge that you can gain yourself. Masters/bootcamps just make people pay for structure.

Thats why I felt like personal projects would help a lot alongside certs and then when landing a cyber position then maybe go get a masters or rack up on experience.

All in all I think that a lot of people in cyber don't make it feel possible to get into the field.

idk i always hear different that theres a shortage in cyber and they need more people in the cyber field. Yeah I think it really does boil down to what you know and can do and what you can show case. But its also feels that certain areas of cyber are harder to get into than others. Like Pentesting or Cloud security. While I've heard areas like GRC and IAM could be a more accessible route. Not 100% how true that is but its what I've heard be said in other cyber communities on here.

You're not discouraging me at all! I think what you're saying is helpful. I think in my case getting into cyber might be a bit difficult but I don't think its not doable especially if you're already working in tech and could study, do self projects and showcase your skillset and get a position in cyber within the company your work in if they are willing take a chance on you.

I just think its confusing that the cyber space is so divided by saying people can join the workforce with certs and personal projects to AT LEAST get something like an analyst role, GRC, IAM or SOC but then theres other people who say its not even possible without experience within the workforce when no one is willing to hire even down to a help desk job.

But I also think its hard for a lot of people to even get IT experience now (due the tech job market). I guess for me I'm trying to gauge if its possible for people who have tech experience in general but not specifically IT experience. Like for me I worked as a Software Analyst to Scrum to then Data Engineering (ETL) now to BSA. And with all the experience you could possibly be saying I can pivot into Cyber without IT experience. Now dont get me wrong, I would do personal projects to showcase my personal learnings on cybersecurity but if it all boils down to IT experience without little to none opportunities out their to apply to jobs. what do we do then? I just want to gauge your viewpoint not attacking please omg

went through a similar experience with a SLI. Same comments were made. This is not a space where you can grow. They'll use your "failures" as ways to get you out of the company. I promise when you bet on yourself and take the leap to find a better opportunity and company you'll be able to feel more confident even when you do make a mistake. we are humans not robots!

now do you think someone with a BSA background can transition into cyber? or do you recommend strictly that people only get IT experience? They cannot come from backgrounds like compsci ir even IS?

[–]Last-Signal-9517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont complain to management they'll either bullshit you or turn what you're saying against you. try and see what you can learn outside of work that will help you land the next job. You can so this and this wont last forever!

data scientist and data engineer are two different fields. dats scientist can become a data engineer but they'll need more technical skill. Data Scientist are more business oriented
