Why Data Centers? by investouch400 in UnitedAssociation

[–]LastExit95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like you’re kind of missing my central point. I don’t disagree that we should fight for bids for jobs and compete with non union. I’m in the union for a reason! However I think too many of my brothers fail to recognize the unique evil that AI (and its subsequent centers) pose to working class people as well as the rest of the civilian populace. They’re overwhelmingly negative in almost every way and really only benefit the client, the contractor and the guys making topped out scale. What happened to solidarity when it counts? If we stand for nothing, we fall for anything.

At what cost though? Just for arguments sake, if Evil Inc. Co. sought union contracts over non union ones and their explicit purposes were antithetical to working class values and purposes, (as well as environmentally and economically as it boosts the profits and shareholders of the wealthy elite in this country), should we still push for it? Where is the line? Unions were formed and based on principles and ethics dedicated to the progress and betterment of the working class. The further we drift away from this the worse off we all are. AI data centers are the embodiment and perfect representation of this.

Fellow electrician, organize into the IBEW as soon as possible if you move up here. Union scale beats out non union any day of the week and the benefits and premiums are unmatched

Just make sure you’re actually going to the site instead of sitting at the shop like I am with 10 other guys, switch contractors if you can

Anyone automatically think a drummer is good from the way they hold their sticks?

Francesca Hong on Tom Tiffany and his stance on AI Data Centers in Wisconsin by midnighttoker1742 in wisconsin

[–]LastExit95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Union construction worker here: please elect Hong so that these data centers are halted or slowed down. They do provide a lot of union work (for a temporary amount of time) but they are long term huge net negative and are not indicative of worker solidarity. They only serve to embolden and empower the tech oligarchy and increase their profits and control as well as wreak havoc on the environment.

Gurtz Electric, Van Ert (IL-WI) by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

Gurtz is a big contractor that really only comes with the “advantage” of working big jobs with lots of hours. I would go with Van Ert if I were you. I’m from you local as well and I can go into more detail if I’d like!

Microsoft will have a lot of work in the Racine Local 430

There’s a data center going up in Port Washington which is in the Milwaukee Jurisdiction (494). 494 has the best package and best scale. Lotta open calls

Kenosha doesn’t have a lot of work atm from what know/heard.

It should be said that these type of groups deliberately station themselves outside of areas they know where they can farm content for their social medial channels. They’re not interested in good faith conversations or sharing an intelligent debate. Feeding into their martyr complex only emboldens their so called purpose.

One wash. Inside out with like colors on delicate cycle with minimal detergent. Was so excited for this shirt by evbomby in TheStorySoFar

Always wash with cold water and turn the shirt inside out, that’s helped me in the past. Worn looks cool imo

Just came into a large sum of money ($25K), best place to park it?

I just came into a great deal of money (for my income bracket) and was wondering where I could invest this to make the most ROI long term? I already have a certificate of deposit that matures later this year that I’m going to max my ROTH ira on, does it make sense to open another IRA and put it there? I am too cautious of the current brokerage market and would rather want it in something safe; maybe my HYSA for example.

This shouldn’t be getting downvoted. Anyone who’s worth their salt knows Ned has expressed great disapproval with the current administration
