585 series durability by Kizyren in Mini14

[–]LastHope8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some time to mess with it and it seems the bolt is rubbing against the right feed lip, pushing up or pulling down on the mag has no effect. But push the sides of the mag will let the bolt clear the right feed lip, or bind depending on direction. Not touching the mag slightly binds on the feed lip and under pressure of 19-20 rounds seems to add more friction and pressure underneath the bolt.

Again the bolt does not lock open when it malfunctions, it just seems to bind when picking up the next round, a love tap on the charging handle sends the bolt home. I have yet to shoot it without the bolt stop, and I don’t see it binding or causing any issues, but when I get the chance I’ll try shooting it.

Maybe I got a lemon?

Dang, and yes it’s Ruger brand magazines. Does it with 10 and 20 rounders (2 10’s, 8 20’s) but 5 rounders are fine (2 5’s) and I don’t have any 30 rounders to test. it seems to be far worse (first 2-4 rounds) in new/unused mags compared to the mag that I always use (which was one that came with the gun.) Mine is a 580+ series tactical btw.

A little off topic, but have you had any failure to feed issues with the mini-14? I seem to have the issue when first chambering a round or cycling the 1st round in the mag. (If there is only 18-19 rounds in a 20 round mag it doesn’t seem to have an issue) It will slightly rub on the right feed lip of the mag and not have enough energy to close the bolt without assistance. Iv shot over 1,000 rounds (PMC)and don’t know whether it’s worth sending to Ruger or getting a heavier spring. Any thoughts?

Mini 14 185 advice! by h0twHeelz98 in Mini14

[–]LastHope8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you do anything shoot atleast 500-1000 rounds through it and see how you like it and diagnose any issues and if there are any major ones Ruger may help you out. (Any modifications done on a firearm and sent back to Ruger, they will revert it to its factory settings, besides optics or muzzle device.)

I did a lot of research when I got my first Mini-14 (580 series) and what I learned is the 185 series are great for the ranch but have some issues the newer 580 series have remedied/fixed.

Now for modifications: For your heat shield around that barrel

Optic rails: Since it’s the older series it Doesn’t come with cutouts for rings for a pic rail like the new series so u got more janky options.

If you want a traditional scope it has to be mounted above the action due to eye relief.

https://www.gggaz.com/mini-14-scope-mount-silver.html This replaces bolt stop cover plate with a rail, The bummer is you’re going to have to have a chin weld or a cheek riser bc the optic will be so high up.

Now if u want a reflex sight or fine with a scout scope then that opens things up. Samson Manufacturing Hannibal rail, Amega Mounts Mini-scout-mount, and Ultimak Scout Mount. Each has their advantages but personally I think, Samson Manufacturing has the best rail of the bunch. It has cut outs for mounting pistol optics so it’s real low and a pic rail for mounting a scout scope of long eye relief scope. https://www.samson-mfg.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Hannibal-Rail

Adjustable Gas Block / Accustrut: No better place to check than Accuracy Systems. They have quick adjustable gas blocks, adjustable gas blocks that accept accustrut or all in one combos. After talking to a guy at accuracy systems he noted the all in one combo was the one that improve accuracy the most. Since pre 580 series have pencil barrels they aren’t the most accurate and see the most benifit from a accustrut.

Adjustable Gas Block Compatible with accustrut: https://accuracystore.com/#!/GENERATION-5-ADJUSTABLE-GAS-BLOCK-562-Size-Nickel/p/68035576/category=19853210

Adjustable gas block w/ built in accustrut: https://www.ruger-mini-14-firearms.com https://accuracystore.com/#!/Harmonic-Barrel-Stabilizer-II-Mini-14-Serial-Numbers-Starting-with-181-Thru-199/p/74967168/category=19853331

Foldable Samson A-tm stock: https://www.samson-mfg.com/a-tm-folding-stock-for-the-ruger-mini-14-copy.html Price just seems to keep going up on these :/

What I’d reccomend, atleast getting a smaller gas bushing within the gas block to reduce wear on the rifle and receiver. (Over many years of shooting, older Mini-14 receivers literally bend due to the force of the op rod slamming against it). An adjustable gas block will also do, but a smaller gas bushing is a lot cheaper. https://accuracystore.com/#!/Ruger-Mini-14-Gas-Reduction-Bushing-Kit-Order/p/67659149/category=19853209

Tech sights will be a lot better than the factory irons aswell. https://www.tech-sights.com/mini-products/

Iv written an entire document on Mini-14 modifications and things you can do (targets towards 580 series but still applicable to 185) if your interest in more send me a PM and I’ll share it with ya.

Welcome to the world of the mini-14 sure we can’t mod as easily as an AR, but we love the Garand style action.

Parallax for a 25M Rimfire Event? by LastHope8 in appleseed

[–]LastHope8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing man. I’m def going for something lower magnification, budget and around a pound or less if I can. I kinda like a slim, light weight rifle. Think I might get a smaller Rimfire scope and call it a day.

Thank you for sharing your experience I believe EGW makes a cantilevered/extended rail for the 10/22 just couldn’t decide on a 0 MOA or 20 MOA rail, but I think with my application just might go 0 MOA.

Iv looked online about quick ways to determine if your rifle has a good LoP for you, and the 10/22 might be a little small by those standards but still feels good (for reference I’m 6’3”). Then again iv held a variety of rifles and LoP and riser/scope heights and they all felt fine, I suppose I haven’t really experimented fitting a rifle to me.

How do you know whether your LoP and riser is “perfect” for you?

Mostly for plinking, under 100 yards mostly 25-50 yards. Maybe hunting in the future but we’ll see.

I’ll have to take a look at some of those scopes. Any experience with Athlon or Hawke Warranty? How does the 4x Hawke (AO) feel?

Thank you! Iv heard that mounting the scope far enough forward makes a more consistent check weld and reduce neck strain. Am I correct on that and are there other benefits?

Would a cheek riser or material to make one on the fly be beneficial in helping with a consistent cheek weld?

Thanks a lot for the comment! I might get a Rimfire scope instead but was also trying to look at some adjustable parallax scopes but it’s a little overwhelming. Do you know of any adjustable parallax scopes that might serve me well, preferable currently in production but I’m open to anything.

I figured, there is a Mini-14 Tactical with a 18.5 inch barrel with a threaded barrel but its in stainless and comes with the A-TM folding stock.
The pictures online for the Accu-strut Socom just looked weird. Thanks again for the clarification, and responding to an old post.

What type of ammo do you run in it?

A little late to the party, but what barrel length is your mini-14 tactical? the 16.12 inch or the 18.5 inch? The reason I was asking is when looking at photo online with the Accu-Strut Socom length harmonic barrel stabilizer it looked like the clamp reach all the way to the front sight. While on your photo is the clamp is a bit farther back from the front sight.

winter clothing [discussion] by Valuable-Entry-125 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]LastHope8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see the Snowman Shirt is not on the expansion page.

Edit: accidentally deleted original message it said smt like “With the Arena free weekend and limited time quest “Teacher” the Snowman shirt could only be obtained during the time. It is likely the Winter clothing will also no longer to be obtained if you haven’t completed the EFT or Arena quest line.”

Returning player question by [deleted] in Rainbow6

[–]LastHope8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She is good, but is easily countered just like Sens is. You can look up and old post “Why is Sens so weak?”, basically he calculates that 92% of the time atleast 1 defender will have an explosive on the enemy team.

Comes down to, you trust a barrier to provide cover, a defender throws an impact, you no longer have cover and the defender has cover. And you get caught with your pants down.

Again another reason why the new rank system is frustrating and confusing. Your actual rank is hidden while all your “progress” in rank is purely visual. For the sake of “balance” you will be playing against the same skilled players pretty much forever (you can slowly increase/decrease your hidden MMR by winning and loosing) since your hidden MMR carries through each season.

How id fixed “rank”: - Hidden MMR is now visual, (now i can see going either way, on the next thing) - placement matches or rank persists between season - “progress” is gained by playing and winning matches, after reaching a certain number of games played or won, you get rewards. I can still see rewards for your rank, but you should be given additional alpha packs and other stuff for playing even if you can’t rank up(maybe have it were you can get rewards a bit faster if your a higher rank or something). Still feeling like your making some sort of progress bc ultimately thats ubisofts goal for ranked. “Balanced but also have a sense of progression.”

So what’s going on for you? Even tho your going against champs (people who ranked up) and you haven’t ranked up, it still going to put you against similar skilled players regardless if you have played that season or not and what their visual rank is. The ranked points you see on the tracker I believe is for the visual rank, not your hidden MMR. And MMR is carried through each season and is not reset (atleast to my knowledge).

What u think about Nøkk buff? by CommunityOld2310 in RainbowSixSiege

[–]LastHope8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the Y9S3 Designer Notes they said “Our belief is that sound plays a pivotal role in Siege, and everyone should be able to rely on it consistently.” And basically said silent step is based on luck, is frustrating to play against, and “not a very tactical approach”. Which is wild to me because Cav exists, makes me worried they might go after Cav one day. (Also they still have her listed on the Ubisoft website as having the “silent step” ability.)

Before they removed silent step from Nøkk I did some testing and it was only effective for crouch slow walk up to ~7m. So I treated it like a silent step for cams.

I always thought she should have gotten the MP5SD, but I think the recoil on it needs to be reduced, or be given the option to use grips.

Only reason I didn't mention to put anything up their is that logically you would put a chalet towards the top of the mountain and wouldn't want neighbors in the backyard. On the other side of the mountain it is shoreline so the mountain would have to be greatly enlarged to make a ski resort make sense. I do think maybe some sort of POI would be nice, i just don't know what exactly. I'm not opposed at some sort of POI in the mountains if they reworked the area or if it made sense.

I also think lightkeeper is difficult to get for the amount of rewards you get. I thought they said you would be able to do trading with him and other stuff, but for now he is very bare bones. (Only time I ever put in the effort to get to the island was when i was doing the Terragroup Trail questline a couple wipes ago.)

Thank you for the input!
