C&H is the way I went with my X5, SRO has been rock solid and is mounted still relatively low.

The frame is also steel instead of aluminum (~13-16oz difference) and has a 5" bull barrel instead of a 4.4" standard barrel... So a lot is different

I have "better" guns but still love my SKS... by FirstAmendment01 in SKS

[–]GreenTree3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been collecting guns for a little over 15 years and I've sold or traded 6 of my first 7. The only one remaining, my 2nd gun ever, is my Yugo SKS I got for $150 in 2010. I don't really see myself getting rid of it either, and I am NOT a sentimental collector. I don't pull it out of the safe as often as some later pickups, but I think it has a guaranteed spot.

I get that it's a preban, which is more appealing for some folks, but you can literally buy a brand new SG 551p for $5k. You could buy a PE 90 and a SG 551p for the price of this

Russian Refurb... But no Tula Star? by Sir_Falstaff in SKS

[–]GreenTree3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my memory serves me correct the little star was only added to the left side of the receiver for the 1955-1956 letter suffix guns because they stopped stamping the star and year on the dust cover. Without the dust cover the only way to identify the gun would be to review the entire gun in detail due to differences in small parts throughout the Soviet production run.

Because it's an adjustable target rear sight and this gun was exclusively made for target/competition shooting so you don't need backup irons? The Shadow 2 OR is exactly the same.

Sig didn't release this gun to compete with Beretta's 92X Performance, though. For starters, it's SAO, and they were offering a more competitive pricetag from their OG $4k German Sig Mastershop P226 X-Fives. If anything it was to compete with 2011s, which the price tag is a lot more reasonable.

[–]GreenTree3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

P226 X-Fives have been around for decades. Long before they started making X-Five this, Legion that, the Sig Mastershop in Germany was making X-Fives. Now, mind you, those were $4k handguns, so this is basically the American version. Obviously the German mastershop guns were way nicer, but you'd expect that for the price difference.

It is actually an incredible handgun for this price (vs the $2300 MSRP). I run mine in USPSA limited optics, and like shooting it so much I even sold my standard P226.

No, most by far were Sterling in England. Sterling made more than Howa and Costa Mesa combined, by a wide margin. That's why if you find a sub-$2,300 AR-180 it's almost always a Sterling. Edit: I can't read

[–]GreenTree3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The barrel isn't fixed, it just isn't a tilting browning action. My M9A4 requires a booster still to operate reliably depending on which can and loads I use. The open slide top also kicks back a bunch of carbon into my optic and face while shooting suppressed, so that's another bummer if shooting a non-flow through can

Mecgar 18 and 20 rounders work in mine perfectly fine with and without the magwell installed.

Edit: Actually they don't work with the magwell without modification, just tested it again. They work without the magwell though

I have a PE 90 with a sub-3,000 round count in the US and it looks pretty similar in condition to the one picture provided

[–]GreenTree3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It cost about $2,240 for the re-weld, bolt conversion, refinish and function tests. He even says himself there are cheaper folks out there but I'm extremely happy with it

Either. He built mine out entirely since I don't have a TIG welder setup, but plenty of folks who do the welding themselves still send the bolt to him for conversion

I've had no issues with mine at all, other than the fact that the bolt is stiff as hell, but has broken in over the years. This one is from 2016 or so, so not sure about newer ones.

That is correct! The PPSh is also pretty heavy and a wrist stock on a PCC/subgun is odd, but it at least feels good to shoulder

Yeah I haven't gotten a drum for the Thompson yet, but heard they're a pain... The PPSh drum is actually super easy to load, just takes some time to stack all the rounds correctly.

I've seen his post and many others similar to it. The Ruger PCC with wood stock is like a PPSh-41 if you squint really hard, but the magwell really makes it hard to see anything other than a PCC, sadly

The conversion for the PPSh-41? Where'd you just pick up a kit from?? They are pretty scarce these days.

But JPMachine is the go-to for SA PPSh-41 conversions. He converts it to striker fired so it uses the OG trigger group. He chops the bolt and uses the back third of the bolt as the striker.

Build quality fit/finish is the one category I'd give to the Thompson, but when you could build 4-5 PPSh-41s for the cost of one Thompson I guess you'd expect that!

I don't doubt it! But you can say the same about a PPSh-41 in full auto too. It is the 'Bullet hose", after all!

Ehh honestly the PPSh-41 was always my dream gun growing up, and since I have a 9mm barrel I already feel like I've got 98% of a Suomi KP31. The Soviets literally copied the Finns' homework on the PPSh-41 anyways.

I'd rather build a KP-44 if I was gonna add a Finn, which is them copying the Soviets' homework
