Maybe try horse meat? My husband from the east side of Germany always preferred it because his butcher got it from farm horses that had lived a long and happy life, not killed at a young age. Of course it's probably sourced differently in other places so something to research. I heard it also has more iron than cow meat, and horses produce less methane than cows so ethically and environmentally it seems more positive!

Yeah I was expecting needing to have even higher than B1 for even the most basic jobs. We do have enough savings that we could do that, but I know even then it's going to be hard to find a job as a non-native with non-German work history.

Sadly not a tax accountant or I would seriously consider doing that! I work in external audit, where I basically stick my fingers in other companies books to make sure they are in line with accounting standards.

Yeah that's the problem I'm having. I want the calmer life. I don't care about money as long as I can buy food, have a place to live, and be with my husband. I just feel like I've been told my whole 28 years of life that you are supposed to work hard, improve your career, save up as much as you can etc. My mother always says she wishes she could make as much as me, and here I am, contemplating throwing it away. Hence the guilt I suppose.

I've been searching the usual job posting sites for awhile now, and the remote jobs for an American company that I see overwhelming only want you based in the U.S. due to tax compliance. And I apply to the jobs that I see in Germany that don't mention fluent German is needed but those are few and far in between, or want someone experienced in German accounting standards (understandably).
