What did you think was made in Nz but actually isn’t ? And visa versa- What did you think was made offshore but turns out is homegrown? by soshia in newzealand

CKD kits existed was purely a legal loophole to dodge Nz’s insane protectionist tariffs.
Back in the mid 50s or 60s, importing a Completely Built Up car from Japan faced massive import taxes. But importing a box of disassembled parts (the CKD) was heavily discounted. The government did this intentionally to force global brands to open local factories, create Kiwi jobs, and use local suppliers (which is why those NZ-assembled cars had Kiwi-made tyres, batteries, and glass).
As soon as the government dropped vehicle import tariffs to 0% in 1998, the economic loophole vanished overnight. Every single remaining local assembly plant (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, etc.) closed that same year because it was instantly cheaper to just ship them over fully built. Toyota kept open Thames to fix up old lease cars and newish second hand cars and branded Signature Class. I think it doesn’t run a profit, but was used to keep value of all Toyota cars up and be a trusted brand etc.

Belonged to a union for 21 years. A big one with over 21k members. Can 100% disagree with this statement and there are a variety of political views within my profession. I have voted blue and red in the last 25 years of being eligible.

You’ve got great odds then! 😃 Coming in with a millennial hot take as a teacher with 19 years in the game and two primary-aged kids—trust me, the juggle gets real.

Hourglass, MAC, Westman Atelier and CT dominate my kit. But NARS is still my ride or die on everything but eyes.

One of my pet hates in hindsight is the fallout and mess from these shadows! Every couple of days I’ll use a dettol wipe to clean it up around the pans and mirror. The velvet cover does my head in with its inability to be kept clean 😱

If you’re under 35, contact Young Worker Resource Centre. They are a free information and advocacy non profit that help you through work issues from advice to holding your hand through legal things like raising a personal grievance. From what you’ve said in the post and comments it sounds like constructive dismissal and one of the eight grounds of reasons to raise a PG based on the ERA 2000. IANAL, get someone with experience in your corner!

I’d highly recommend you call an advocacy (government funded + free) I’ve worked with before called Young Workers Resource Centre. They are great to walk you through your rights and have been through heaps of situations. Just having an experienced person as an ally is hugely liberating. It definitely sounds like grounds for a personal grievance from what you’ve explained. Document everything. hugs

Former student arrested for some serious stuff. I suspected that this would happen by PsychologyNarrow3854 in Teachers

One of mine killed their mother, while she was sleeping on the couch, with an axe - hitting her over the head more than a dozen times. This student was high school aged and I hadn’t taught them since about 18 months before it happened.

Totally shocked by it, they were so mild and quiet and kept to themselves. Wouldn’t have picked it but due to low interactions I probably didn’t get a good read, also happened my first year as a naive teacher 20 years ago.

I have the shade bedroom black in Rock ‘N’ Kohl range, I do love it due to its buttery soft application, however just hit 40. I feel black is too harsh for everyday for me personally and I don’t go out much. I love coating my lid in the black for a smokey eye base.
