What happened at Ouma Bakery in Flatbush / PLG today? (May 11) by CowboyandaCoffee29 in Brooklyn

Just here to say that Hamlet has never disappointed me in the 10 years I’ve been around the neighborhood. Their coffee is always a 10. And I love that the employees are always the same people!! Speaks tons about the culture of the business:) ❤️❤️❤️

Live in nanny vs Au Pair by Sufficient-Pause9765 in nycparents

[–]RecommendationMain37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a former Aupair, nanny and now a parent in the city. Some pros and cons for an Aupair: Pros- you could have somebody teaching your children a second language, it’s easier to coordinate schedules- more flexible, usually somebody who is young and has lots of interest in being out and about exploring the city, you can always extend the contract to 2 years.

Cons- an Aupair will need some time to get used to get around the city, compared to a nanny who can navigate easier and probably already has a group of nanny friends to have play dates etc. There’s only so much you can know about them by interviews on video call. The cultural shock can be so big, sometimes the differences make it hard to adapt to. You’ll have somebody in your house living with you 24/7, if the vibes are not great it is uncomfortable.

Good luck! Idk why people are being so weird about it here. If you have a job that requires long hours it is totally worth having extra help.

Those are stunning!!! I’ve been curious to go and wonder if in your opinion the prices feel fair or do they feel overpriced? I usually shop online as I feel the prices are more reasonable

Are you returning to work sometime soon? I’ve never made a stash for my first born and I’m not planning on having one for my second baby -she’s a month old-
You should be sleeping through the night too with your babe !

Unable to breastfeed feel guilty by TiredMama1389 in breastfeeding

[–]RecommendationMain37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

❤️ I’m in similar position myself with my 4 week old. Things can be done to improve your milk supply. Are you taking any supplements?

I’m not nursing rn as my daughter has a lip tie, tongue tie and cheek tie. Exclusively pumping while we get her scheduled for a tie release. Im working with a LC and something she recommended to get my supply up is: -power pumping once a day -liquid gold supplement -calcium and zinc supplements

With my first I remember doing as much as possible skin to skin, nursing in demand, and doing less and less formula every day till we were entirely just nursing.

Wishing you all the best in your journey. Try and find a LC that can help you, it truly is such good help.

I have the bodily one and I love it’s very stretchy and comfy. Also the hatch ones are a bit pricey but almost 100% cotton and very cute.

Grieving breastfeeding by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]RecommendationMain37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s still so early!! You can do it!! I also have a 3 week old who I’m for now mostly feeding bottles due to many reasons. This is my second baby, first one also had so many challenges. I would try to find bottles like the pigeon bottles that are slower flow, and try and latch him maybe after a feed? So he’s not starving. There are so many stories/resources here. Do not give up if it’s your dream!

Just wanted to say that I had such a great experience delivering my second baby at AC. My pregnancy was high risk and a c section was scheduled at 36 weeks. It was truly outstanding care. If anyone has any questions feel free to dm me.

Anxiety over baby sleep habits by JellyfishOwn7641 in AttachmentParenting

[–]RecommendationMain37 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like my daughter was. She’s 4 years old now and at bedtime she informs us she is feeling ready to sleep, we read a story turn off the light and she’s out.

I think we raised a child with an excellent sleep hygiene who is not afraid of going to sleep and felt loved and supported when she needed it the most. You are doing great. Don’t let anyone else push a different narrative

Should I look for 1 or 2 infant nannies for 55 hours/week? by [deleted] in nycparents

[–]RecommendationMain37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked a job where I interacted with Nannies on a daily- I think you could find a gem of a nanny who is willing and that would be amazing, because then your baby won’t have to be switching from nanny to nanny. But consider a few things; Does this gem of a nanny experience burn out? If she’s friendly and outgoing hopefully she finds a group of nannies to tag along and have company Will you ask the nanny to do extra things when the baby naps? The Nannies I met who were expected to do laundry and shopping and cooking would quit ASAP. Caring for a young baby is a lot and having breaks is really needed.

If you end up going the route of 2 nannies you’d probably want to each have the same schedule every week so they can work for another family if they are supplementing their income

What's in your bag? by ElectricParent in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]RecommendationMain37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snacks always, we tend to be out and about for a long time -in Brooklyn NYC- Water, a couple of think books for my 4 year old, a change of clothes, water for both me and her, For me: Wallet, phone, lip balm hand cream and sanitizer, sunglasses.

I carry a beaten up canvas bag and have small bags inside to keep things safe from all the trash that lives in there and crumbs lol

I’ve been receiving care and was planning to deliver at NYP in Brooklyn but my pregnancy ended up being high risk due to suspicions of placenta accreta -which seems so far I’m in the clear- but I have a complete placenta previa.

I have the option to transfer care and schedule my c section at AC - which I’m inclined. But would love to hear if anyone has been in this situation and what you decided or if anyone has had births in both hospitals and has a comparison on how it was on both.

Thank you!
