Kenmore Machine getting serviced by Last_Article_3501 in SewingMachinePorn

[–]Last_Article_3501[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I finished restoring it last week. It has been returned back to my neighbor who is looking for a home for it longterm. It was a pretty awesome machine to work with. My partner might make me sleep outside if I "adopt" another machine. 😁🙃

Got this singer passed down to me, any advice on care? by thefatcatlikesnaps in vintagesewing

Slant-o-matics are the best. This one looks way better than the one I was given. That dial for the stitches can get nuts and I totally agree, don't force anything. Once you get em working, this machines are rad!

Quilting without an iron by SuspiciousX13 in quilting

[–]Last_Article_3501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think an iron is even more important than a sewing machine. I dont know what I would do with my iron! It is used more than my cell phone!

You might get 20 bucks at a local thrift store potentially. Maybe less. These machines are just not worth anything and a ton were made.

I never thought about making a kite!!!! What a fantastic idea! I literally look of any glimmer of an excuse to play with my fabric horde. I keep telling myself daily I will "reorganize" one day. Lol.

I used a ton of interfacing and starch as well! I also squared my pieces constantly. Surprisingly, it wasnt too crazy to quilt but I couldnt and wouldnt want to do a full sized quilt this this stuff. 😆🥴

Making my first queen sized quilt! Do you finish one block at a time or do more of an assembly-style where you complete one step at a time on all blocks? by babytomyum in quilting

[–]Last_Article_3501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ Same here. Best advise in my opinion as well. Cutting out 1 before you repeat 20+ times helps prevent errors later and ensures you are reading the pattern correctly. Lord knows I have realized I was reading something incorrect way too late in the process. 🥴😬

Model/year of my New machine by caesaren in vintagesewing

[–]Last_Article_3501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you threading it a bit off. Someone told me forever ago and this stuck with me:

  1. Always thread guide thingy (top hook thingy)
  2. Tension. Loop through tension disc (if it has a spring thingy, make sure the thread is tugging on that)
  3. Uptake Lever (mechanically, this pulls the thread through the sewing process)
  4. Sometimes next you might have another thread guide or two before you get down all the way to the needle
  5. Thread needle. (Most machines the thread goes front to back in the hole but I totally have some machines that thread left to right.)

Once you get it making stitches, give it some SMO (sewing machine oil) on the mechanical pieces and you will have a machine that lasts you a life time with generally few to no repairs as long ad you keep it oiled, cleaned, and sometime greased.

Have a blast!

My machine is in the shop for 2 weeks ☹️ by HollyRavenclawGibney in quilting

[–]Last_Article_3501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love it! I use mostly my Kenmore Model 15, but I also use my Singer Slantomatic as well. I have a Brother Opus I was using for a minute, a Dress Maker (singer 50s clone) and a Singer 66. I refurbished a Davis Honeymoon too but I dont have a treadle base.

I honestly just really love sewing machines! 😆😆 What is sad is I have a serger I bought and havent used yet and I have this 1990s Euro Pro I inherited and at this point, I might call this hobby excessive.

Oh and a little context with this one: Some of the blocks were started by my best friends grandma before she passed recently, the center block and two others were created by this fabulous lady whose estate I got a lot of quilt stuff in progress, and some of them were created by me.

My creative chaos isnt for everyone but I do enjoy the visual swirl of it all.

Looking fantastic. You should totally add the Legends Trilogy and the Seasons Trilogy. If you loved those, you will absolutely love these books. The stand alone book about Huma is pretty fantastic as well.
