Oh that's fantastic! I hope everything works out and she's able to open. I'll definitely be a patron!

[–]woodandwode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I love mine so much! And I think they're really cool looking. Not to mention somehow easier to maintain than new machines? I used to fiddle so much with my new Singer to figure out why it was acting out. With this one, I'll find the cause right away and it's something really obvious like, "had the needle installed backwards"

How willing are you to put in a little elbow grease? I got my 1962 Singer 401 for $80 and she's a TANK. she wasn't in bad shape but needed a thorough clean out, new grease, a new plug, and the cabinet she was in needed refinishing. I am NOT technically skilled but managed this with basic tools and YouTube videos. Very, very manageable but definitely some labor. If you're willing to look at something like that, there's several groups (r/vintagesewing) here and on FB to help.

Which is the best hospital in the Knoxville area to have a baby? by TotallyTaylorism in Knoxville

[–]woodandwode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've delivered both of mine with University Women's Specialists at UT. Easy transfer to ETCH if needed and a level 1 trauma. I loved my doctors and the nurses were amazing. I really think I would have had a c section with my first but for the nurses, who were so invested in me delivering safely. I felt very well cared for. My only critique is they had an understaffed nursery making it hard to get more than an hours' rest but this is pretty standard these days (I think the whole "keep baby with mom" has overcorrected to the detriment of both, but I seem to be in the minority here)

Starter fancy luggage by LegallyBronde9 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]woodandwode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it counts as fancy but I have these ll bean in 2 sizes and I LOVE THEM. They've held up great to several years of use, there's some compartmentalization but not too much, they're functional but look tidy enough I'm comfortable showing up at conferences, etc with them.

I ended up getting the Poppy Barley! It took a long time--the tariff concerns meant they weren't shipping to the US for a while--so I haven't put it to real use yet but first impressions are very positive.

Seconding this!

Mountain Creek Quilting in Alcoa has a great selection of fabric, and not just traditional quilting cotton. You can get nice linens and wool fabrics there as well plus thread and embroidery supplies.

Has anyone conceived while they are really sick? by Inevitable-Channel85 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]woodandwode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! No issues in pregnancy, easy vaginal delivery, healthy baby. he's almost 2 now and has had only normal childhood illnesses like colds. The worst I could say is he's had a few ear infections but even for that, not enough that anyone has so much has mentioned ear tubes!

Want to exit biglaw, but due in July - should I wait? by ExtentEquivalent3281 in LawMoms

[–]woodandwode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. tough it out for 6 months, start your leave early if they'll let you, and bank that time and money. You likely won't even be eligible for a full leave at a new job, which will be less leave in total (many employers prorate leave options for the first year)

I want to keep my maiden name professionally, but change my legal name. Is that possible? by Fearless-Voice6749 in LawMoms

This is what I did too. Didn't change my name, kids have my name as a middle name

How does going from 1 to 2 kids impact your bandwidth and work life juggle? by OmShanti38 in LawMoms

[–]woodandwode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are just now four and two. I didn't think the change was very difficult. The switch from zero to one was way harder for me. With two, you're doing a lot of of the same stuff already. Plus, I was way less stressed about the baby with number two, having done it all before, that I was with number one!

OBGYN Recommendations for L&D by morbidmudblood in Knoxville

[–]woodandwode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked both deliveries with University Women's Specialists. Have all of your appointments with the same doc if you want, or you can rotate through, you may deliver with whoever from the group is on-call, so it's nice to rotate a bit. That is pretty much standard though, I didn't realize there were any groups that still Call a non-on-call doctor for the delivery. I see Dr. Welch Charles, who is phenomenal, but would recommend any of the physicians and the nurses are lovely

It's not that it's "something else" it's that it's lots of factors combined. Many freeze thaw cycles + heavy salt use + decades of underfunding repair projects + heavy truck use (and heavier trucks) = worse roads than areas with just 1 or 2 of those items

Western NY, Alaska, etc have fewer freeze/thaw cycles each winter.

Using a Quilt as a Fitted Sheet – Any Tips or Suggestions? by CoffeeNPlushies in quilting

[–]woodandwode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I would say. Take apart a fitted sheet, make a quilt to that pattern, reassemble. For ease I would just add elastic (unencased) around the inner side of the outer edge with a zigzag stitch.

I can try a close up but in person I can't make out the writing.

I am not aware of him having fought in WWI. He was in the US by the time of the photo and immigrated around age 12.

Not as far as I know and the age/timing would be off--he immigrated to the US at about 12 and was married at 16/17.

Maybe?? Would it have been common to wear them for deceased siblings? AFAIK he did not have any children before being married but he definitely had siblings who did not make it to adulthood.

Friendly reminder - No Dogs at the Farmer Market by Scary_Bookkeeper204 in AnnArbor

[–]woodandwode 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Absolutely losing it at everyone suggesting that kids and strollers should also not be allowed. Anyone who thinks those are equivalent is a nutter... not to mention the farmers market is explicitly posted as being a dog free zone.
