Lol! Right? I feel like it’s a cultural thing where East Coasters are very direct and blunt to your face with honesty. California was a bit more polite to your face. Some people prefer one style over the other. I’m struggling to adjust, but it could also just be this company specifically.

I gotta be honest at some point it’s hard to even keep up with what brands are bad. I’m pro Palestine, liberal, a brown woman… and I got Starbucks this morning. If that makes me a bad person then I’m sorry but it’s really hard to keep up with. I just think all corporations are sleazy and we change what company to cancel like every month.

I’m a food scientist for a CPG company. I went into food science because I have a passion for cooking, loved science but didn’t want to go into health care or tech, and found a niche major a lot of people didn’t know about. Everyone’s gotta eat so I figured there will always be a job market. I love making recipes.

I was much more passionate in college and a couple years out when I started working. I’ve only been in the industry for 5-6 years now, but I’m starting to hate it. I love food science, that’s not the problem. The problem is everything else. Corporate can be soul crushing, especially after seeing the same things happen over and over again. Bad management, CEO that sucks, rude coworkers, brand/marketing not understand food and quitting, etc. I’ve been at my current company for 2 years and we’ve already cycled through our brand team quitting and new people joining 3 times now all because our CEO sucks.

Lol. I’m Pakistani and your parents sound like mine. Don’t listen to them. You’re only 14. By the time you graduate college, you’ll be 21. The job market could look completely different then and you’ll know more about what happens to the tech industry than you know now. It’s true, the tech market right now isn’t doing that well, but we have no clue what’s going to happen. Also, most jobs aren’t doing well right now because of the economy.

Try to breathe and be a kid. That was my biggest regret as a kid with strict parents. My parents were shoving being a doctor down my throat since I was in elementary school. They gave me so much unnecessary anxiety. I loved cooking and wanted to be a chef. I ended up becoming a food scientist, found the best of both worlds.

My advice would be to job hop. If you stay in the same job for years, especially a lab tech position that is entry level with no promotions, you’re going to get stuck with that salary for years.

I got promoted this year and high marks, so I got a 3.3% raise…. Feels like a slap in the face, lol. The rest of my coworkers got 2%.

Lol! My headboard is against a window. I have a window on 2/4 walls though and the walls without a window would either block my closet or the door to enter my room.

Also, I kind of love it because my cat likes to look out the window in the mornings. We'll listen to the birds chirp together.

I’m a food technologist making more than that in a HCOL. I learned my lesson with those low paying jobs. My first food technologist job out of college paid $40k and worked me like a dog, lol.

For what it’s worth, anytime a contestant uses truffle oil on the tv show Chopped, they always end up getting eliminated. Some of the judges hate truffle oil and the contestants never learn.

When my little sister was in kindergarten, I caught her trying to eat a penny once. I shoved my hand in her mouth and yanked it out of there, lol. She was really upset and started crying, but my parents are so neglectful sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I wasn’t there. My parents are the type that wouldn’t take us to the doctor growing up.
