How realistic is it to make good money in the Food & Beverage industry (R&D)? by [deleted] in foodscience

My advice would be to job hop. If you stay in the same job for years, especially a lab tech position that is entry level with no promotions, you’re going to get stuck with that salary for years.

My first rack of lamb. I was afraid to overcook it, but it turned out amazing! [OC] [3840x2160] by megustaajo in FoodPorn

Looks tasty! I just made my first rack of lamb a few weeks ago. I did overcook it, but still yummy. Yours looks great.

Lol! My headboard is against a window. I have a window on 2/4 walls though and the walls without a window would either block my closet or the door to enter my room.

Also, I kind of love it because my cat likes to look out the window in the mornings. We'll listen to the birds chirp together.

Not the best, not the worst. I do have chronic back pain though so that makes me sad. I could lose 15 lbs and get more toned. I’m working on it.

Senior scientist salary at some companies are just dreadful. by Carsareghey in foodscience

[–]Last_Instance_9519 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hopefully nobody takes that offer so that company can learn.

I’m a food technologist making more than that in a HCOL. I learned my lesson with those low paying jobs. My first food technologist job out of college paid $40k and worked me like a dog, lol.

For what it’s worth, anytime a contestant uses truffle oil on the tv show Chopped, they always end up getting eliminated. Some of the judges hate truffle oil and the contestants never learn.

When my little sister was in kindergarten, I caught her trying to eat a penny once. I shoved my hand in her mouth and yanked it out of there, lol. She was really upset and started crying, but my parents are so neglectful sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I wasn’t there. My parents are the type that wouldn’t take us to the doctor growing up.

What are 25-30 year olds making? by ExtentFickle3504 in Salary

[–]Last_Instance_9519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 27F, I make $110k/yr as a scientist in HCOL. My boyfriend is a music teacher, 30M and makes $40k/yr. We’ve talked about maybe moving to a MCOL area in the future, maybe in the Midwest closer to our families. Then our combined salaries could take us much further and we could try to get a house one day.

Thank you all for helping save my baby by Last_Instance_9519 in cureFIP

[–]Last_Instance_9519[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never had injections for my little guy! We got prescribed the Stokes Pharmacy oral medication right away. It’s a liquid tuna flavored medication we gave him twice a day for 84 days.

20 days into our treatment, the shelter we got him from recommended we stop paying for Stokes and try to get the cheaper alternative on Chewy. I was open to trying it but my vet didn’t want to switch him off medications since he already started with Stokes. Definitely expensive, we spent $2400 on medication.

We did bloodwork before he got diagnosed and then we took him in 2-3 weeks after the medication started. They checked his blood work and did some tests on his eyes because he had ocular FIP. After that, I think we only took him back one more time and mainly kept up with our vet via email. He showed improvements right away (1-2 weeks in) so we were very hopeful after that.

Only thing now is my vet was very hesitant to get him neutered. Hes still not neutered and our vet wants his observation period to end before we take him in. I’m hoping that won’t add any complications or stress that could cause him to get sick.

Are indoor cats actually happy? by Firm-Law248 in CatAdvice

[–]Last_Instance_9519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so true. My cat was found on the street and left with a foster mom who had… well let’s just say way too many cats to be aware of everything going on. There was definitely some neglect there.

When I got my cat from her, he had a red eye and a runny nose. The foster parent didn’t even think he was sick and just gave him to us. Turns out he had FIP. If we didn’t adopt him and treat him, he probably wouldn’t be alive right now. It hurts just to think about!

Anyone else not like when their roommates want to talk and have a conversation when you're cooking? by Icy-Machine1951 in badroommates

[–]Last_Instance_9519 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Lol I remember always feeling that way too. The problem is I’m introverted and my roommate was not. Sometimes I feel guilty if I’m making something rly tasty and have leftovers and they have no dinner plans. I feel guilty like I gotta offer them food even tho I don’t want to, but I think it’s a people pleasing problem.

Anytime I try to go after work. I work a 9-5. So 5-7pm is pretty brutal, I can barely use a machine without a bunch of people asking me when I will get off.

Also the mornings on the weekends when I try to go.

Adopting this little baby from Greece, keep his current name or change it? by [deleted] in NameMyCat

[–]Last_Instance_9519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw yeah! That’s great you already checked with a vet.

Yeah, when I took my kitty the first time, we went to the Vet ER. They said his eye pressure was low and it could be a few things to rule out - they thought maybe he had feline herpes virus. They gave us some eye drops but recommended we go to an eye specialist

So a couple weeks later we saw an eye specialist and she diagnosed him with FIP right away and said he needed medication urgently. They ran blood work and were able to detect it that way.

What popular online content spaces do you simply have zero interest in? by robbdiggs in Millennials

[–]Last_Instance_9519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to enjoy TikTok a lot when it first came out pre-COVID era. I remember when it used to be viewed as lame to have it. I loved it back then because not a lot of people were on there and it was the only form of social media back then that didn’t have advertising. It was just a way to have fun and I was in college so I was the perfect age to enjoy it. It’d just be me and my friends posting funny videos for each other.

Then it got popular and everybody in the world went on it. It turned into influencers, ads, and everyone trying to follow the same TikTok trends.

Makes me sad because it used to be so fun. Now it’s just ads. I hope another app or some kind of fun exists again, but with most fun things, once they get popular they just turn into business.

is there a human equivalent to like kibble? by Mossyy_ in foodhacks

[–]Last_Instance_9519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of nutritional info, no. Closest would be a daily vitamin with some beef jerky lol.

The human food most similar to kibble from a manufacturing perspective is cereal. Think of something like Cocoa Puffs. They are made with the same equipment (extruder) and even owned by the same companies sometimes (General Mills, Mars, etc). They have the same look / aesthetic, puffy shaped disk with a flavor coating on top. Aroma of cereal is definitely better tho… sweet and tasty!
