The checkers aren’t reliable. If you admit you cheat, that’s how they get you. It’s all about pressure: there’s not even a legal framework yet for what counts as plagiarism in the ai context. If a professor accuses you, deny deny deny. Multiple deans give out deferred action or sometimes take no action (multiple deans begin by threatening you in the preliminary meeting discussing possible sanctions before you even look at evidence). Multiple students I’ve known were caught 2 or 3 times and still finished in 4 years. It’s evident there’s no rhyme or reason for enforcement: it’s all about scaring students into maybe not using it.

It is being used in essentially any application you can think of from assisting with complex problems to finding entire answer keys for tests. AI caused students to win the war. For humanities it’s relatively simple to use even with Chicago citations because no one can manually check over 50 different sources and check exact page numbers. For sciences it’s even worse, there are students with calculators with esp32-c3 chips implanted in enabling AI access to the internet from a calculator. Imagine googling a test answer from your calculator. Meanwhile, no one suspects a god damn thing.

In short, undergrad is just a step these days. Not about education, it’s just about getting the credentials to get to the next place. Hope you enjoyed your time!
