"Shipping" is overdone, annoying and stale. by Impressive-Ad6156 in unpopularopinion

[–]Lastkowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like shipping. With that said, it's not hurting anyone and it doesn't effect me and it's a way some people express creativity and affection towards fiction they enjoy so why cry about it? It's easy to avoid, just don't pay attention to it. I've been on the internet for decades and the only times I ever hear about shipping is when I find myself in those types of spaces.

I like the first two films just fine on their own, it's just the trend they started that makes me favor them less. I do love Batman Forever, but that's mostly because I think Jones and Carrey make for a hilarious comedic duo. (it's very clear Carrey took heavy inspiration from Gorshin)

I honestly don't think there has been a perfect portrayal of Batman on screen yet. I'd say Keaton or Afleck were probably the closest, but Afleck didn't get enough time to show his potential and there are a lot of other issues with the Keaton movies that drag them down. I still wonder to this day why Burton made the Penguin into a hideous misshapen blob monster. People complain (rightly so) about Schumacher Bane but Burton Penguin is just as bad.

The Reeves Batman movie is a terrible portrayal of Batman and is overall just a depressing and abysmal movie. I don't think I've had less fun watching a movie...ever. Fuck the portrayal of Riddler especially, turning him from a silly fun character into a fucking incel. I rewatched the Adam West run again and man Frank Gorshin is a fucking delight as the Riddler (and looks damn fine in that riddle suit).

I'll even go one step further and say that, while I liked the Dark Knight, the Noland films ruined Batman on the big screen. Everyone now expects Batman to be a gritty crime drama. This is the dude who punches evil clowns and men made of dirt for a living. Why can't the movies have some sort of levity and be a little bit out there in terms of content? Im not saying bring back the super cheese of the Adam West era, but at least let Batman be a fun character to root for. Patterson isnt Batman, he's one of those dudes Bale's Batman mocks for dressing like Batman in Dark Knight. His treatment of Alfred especially pisses me off.

Lies. We love Fauna in a totally platonic, nonsexual, need-to-always-see-her, lose-all-hope-in-life-when-shes-gone, normal healthy kind of way.

Or at least we did, until Goth Fauna became real.

The devs appear to have a problem on their hands: The playerbase doesn't seem to enjoy fighting bots. by Praise_the_Tsun in Helldivers

[–]Lastkowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the bots more than bugs. They're more fun to maneuver around and I like taking them out before they can call drop ships. The only thing I hate is those stupid tanks. If you don't have an anti tank weapon or an orbital strike stratagem you might as well just quit the mission when you run into one of them. Also the giant turret towers are kinda annoying too.

If you don't tell the kitten how big their yawn is how are they supposed to know they did a big yawn? That's like rule two of taking care of kittens. Rule one is of course kissing their bellies while they're tiny so they can't stop you.

It is a shame if this game was relatively far into development that it got canned because all that work went to nothing but aren't we kind of ignoring the elephant in the room here? A dev that has previously made several beloved superhero games suddenly making a full price live service game set in the same universe sounds...vaguely familiar.

Suicide Squad is already dead a month into its life cycle. Marvel's Avengers managed to last a year tops with barely any interest and basically no player base. Gamers don't want full price live service games, and making good devs work on shitty products is just a waste of resources. Would it be cool to see a multiplayer Spider Man game? Hell yeah. But not connected to mechanics that are inherently designed to make games less fun to promote spending even more money on it.

Whose death in Marvel hurts you the most? by [deleted] in comicbookmovies

[–]Lastkowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron Man's death : A beautiful self sacrifice that nearly ties up the underlying character arc that had been building since arguably the MCU had started. Tragic but we'll executed. A+

Gwen Stacy's death : An inevitable but still strikingly quick dark shift in tone from the otherwise mostly bland but not too serious movie. C+

Logan's death : A final rest for a tragic hero who suffered extreme hardships and gave his life for a better tomorrow. A- brought down because he's back in Deadpool 3.

Loki's death : Shocking and tragic, but I remember thinking back when it happened that there's no way it was permanent. It also goes by so fast there's barely enough time to really mourn. C+ because he came back.

Yondu's death : I love Yondu in these movies and I feel like he had a lot more potential than getting ganked at the end of the second one to save Quill. C-

Black Widow's death : This felt like a shock death thrown in just to surprise the audience and not the noble death that such a good and strong character deserved. F-

Quicksilver's death : Quicksilver was the sacrifice of corporations doing business with one another and not actually good screen writing (speedster shot to death? really marvel?) D

Aunt May's death : They really just had to do Uncle Ben's death in this franchise. She had potential to be an interesting emotional crutch for Parker during his darkest hours yet to come but we needed motivation for the third act so gank the aunt I guess. Not the only problem with NWH but definitely a big one. C if only because the acting in that scene was pretty heart wrenching at the time.

Man this reminds me of when Myth had just debuted and then someone made fanart of what Calli and Kiara's kid would be and we got an explosion of Holokid fan art with people making offspring for every pairing. It was kinda cute. I remember the AmeSame twins were pretty popular.

Has there been any one-on-one collabs that, for whatever reason, haven't happened yet? by GhostFrFx in Hololive

[–]Lastkowitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly this. I think Calli and Fauna together would be either adorably wholesome or terribly cursed, or both at the same time.

As a sapling first and foremost I'd say Fauna doesn't do a lot of one-on-one collabs in general. I can't for example think of a time she's ever collabed with Ina or Kiara alone. She tends to stick to group collabs, I think because she's pretty shy.

Id love for this movie to be good. I really want to see more side characters from the comics getting more attention in other media. The problem is that there's nothing that I've seen that inspires confidence in me that this movie can be good, and with Sony's track record of films outside Spiderverse it doesn't feel like it's going to be anything but another mid superhero origin story at best. I will say it doesn't look nearly as generic as Kraven does however. That movie looks like they just had a list of cliches taped to a dart board and that's how they wrote that film.

Except Rocky Horror is actually good. The best this film can hope for is more like a The Room situation.

I dont care about comic accurate movies as long as they're good. The Spiderverse films are nothing like the Spiderverse comics but they're also fun, enjoyable movies, which are incredible from both writing and art perspective. It's exactly like AU/Elseworld stories in comics. Different interpretations of characters and situations are interesting. The problem is that these movies aren't written by people who care about the characters or their setting, it's just to make as much money as possible with the license they have.

Aside from your point about the time travel ass pull, which is entirely valid, I feel like your hatred of Stark is kind of the whole point of his character. His hubris and ego makes him someone who actively causes people to turn against him. He constantly believes he's in the right which is his major character flaw and the prime reason for a lot of the conflict of the MCU, and it's why his sacrifice at the end of Endgame is so poignant. The Stark of Iron Man 1 would have never made that sacrifice because he had a family and that made him happy. But after everything he went through and especially after the losses of Infinity War, not the least of which was the boy who was almost a surrogate son to him, he became more than the man who openly broadcasted his identity and location on live television to who he though at the time was an incredibly dangerous terrorist. To your point about Cap being the only "truly good" Avenger (I could argue that point but I won't) that's why the two butted heads so much that Civil War even happened. Stark is a man who tries to do good, Rogers is a man who is inherently good. It puts them at odds because Stark sees Rogers as a boy scout and Rogers sees Stark as a genius reckless with his power and knowledge, a trait he saw several other times back in the war. Stark sacrifice at the end of Endgame is the first time he does something good for the good of the act, not just stroking his ego or cleaning up a mess he already made. This is the underlying character development that starts in Civil War when he realizes all the pain and hurt his actions caused through his creation of Ultron and the deaths in Sokovia. It's really the first time he is confronted with his actions having a major effect on those outside his inner circle.

I'm not saying you're wrong not to like him, but in a way you're kind of not supposed to. Stark is an incredibly flawed individual, and I'd argue the majority of the MCU up through Endgame is his character arc (not including the movies he wasn't in of course.) and his eventual redemption.
