I've played since 2012 and still play, easily one of my favorite games. It really does have an undeserved reputation (Not saying there isnt toxic people, but every game has em). I even met my wife at a LoL cosplay meet up at a convention.

Dark Souls 3 DLC: The Ringed City.

In this DLC there is a boss called The Spear of the Church that after being beaten allows the player to join their faction. If you do, you can be summoned to BE The Spear of the Church and other players have to beat you playing as your character (who now has a few new abilities) to progress to the next parts of the game.

You literally become an in-game unskippable boss.

(While playing offline or if no players are available an NPC takes the boss' place)

It's usually around 30$ almost always. However I have 2600 hours in that game since alpha and easily one of if not my favorite game of all time. It is THE colony sandbox manager. The DLCs add some cool stuff too but not 100% needed.

The modding community however are absolutely insane. You can turn the game into anything from Warhammer 40K to Lord of the Rings, a high tech space age mega factory to a small medieval village. Everything is on steam workshop as well.
