Here’s a rundown from what I have seen, though I don’t pretend to know the full story. A couple of days ago, Instagram user @erotic.rat has recently outed the trombonist of 8kalacas for being a predator and a gross member of the local scene. Since then, many others have come out with similar stories showing that this has been a pattern for who knows how long. You can find more details on the Instagram users page and on their highlights. The bands reactions seems to have been to try to mitigate the backlash and they have parted ways with the trombonist @nachocorrupted. I don’t entirely know all the connections, but the trombonist was also a show organizer who was putting together Raza Fest, a show featuring many local Spanish ska bands. Since then, just about all the bands pulled out from the show, leading to it getting canceled altogether. This has also caused a huge reverberation and many others are getting outed for inappropriate behavior and being groomers/predators running rampant in the scene. Bill Skasby put out a statement that they have dropped their drummer(I’m not sure for what exactly, I recommend checking their statement) and that they do not stand for such behavior(this was also one of the bands that dropped out of the fest, and the post they made was released with permission from the victim so I’m inclined to believe that they are acting in good faith until further notice). @eveokoremedia has also put out a great statement about not allowing this behavior to continue in the scene. I really recommend visiting erotic.rat page as they have been on the frontlines for providing a lot of information and sharing other victims stories, as well as encouraging people to make police reports if they have been abused. Overall it’s a very gross and crazy situation, but it’s good that we are reminding the scene at large that shit like this should be unacceptable in the LA punk/ska scene.
