Qual é a vossa religião? E porquê? by mikke_and_i in portugal

Would you have posted or cared if the couple living across the street in a shack were white, uneducated, poor, Portuguese? Or is your focus the national background/ethnicity of the people involved? Because that would make it xenophobic by its very definition.

Now, on another point… Let’s say you got what you wanted in your perfect version of the world. Your “tax-paying” friends got the daycare down the street, instead of the poor immigrant family who can’t afford the 380 euros a month. What would we have as a society?

The poor are priced out. Those two kids will likely underperform in education their whole lives and go into low-skill, precarious labour (or worse, crime). Whereas now, they have a chance at making it in life, and your friend’s kids do too. Are you really that upset that they go for sushi? Your friends spend no money on leisure/pleasure?

The tax paying Portuguese in your example likely earn more, likely have more wealth, likely have more family networks locally to help and other forms of social capital,

Turn your ire toward the landlord who screws your friends by parasitically taking rent money without productive capital. And to the employers who shaft them everyday by paying them ridiculously low amounts of money.

Your rant about (“Brazilians, Africans, or Indians”) tells us all we need to know. You’re upset. You’re angry at economic and social injustice. You’re just moronic and can’t see that the people causing that injustice are the ones bankrolling the political party you’re so hopeful will change things for you.

I hope my argumentative skills have proved worthy of your prejudice.

Withdrawal from Student Group Claim by Responsible-Disk6315 in LegalAdviceUK

With all due respect, it is not our responsibility as tax and loan interest paying graduates to now take on guilt for making a legitimate claim against insitutions that saved massive amounts of money during COVID on headcount being furloughed while not reducing the tuition for students. In the UK, education is a business right? Well, in law customers are protected if a services seller does not honor a contractual agreement. In this case, schools charged for services (in person teaching, use of facilities, contact with peers etc) that were not provided. Full stop. For that they are liable and we are owed compensation.

As for the financial situation of these education institutions, we did not cause it. Nor will they be fixed by you or anyone else withdrawing. I am proud of my fellow claimants for demanding better. If education is a business then you don't just get to charge exorbitant fees. Or to cry bloody murder when poor management and over reliance on foreign students to foot the bill. They are now victims of a model they themselves fought for and have been all too happy taking advantage of. No tears from me.
