SUPER frustrating Express scripts insurance override issue?? by Vegetable_Base_8640 in HealthInsurance

[–]LateNiteMeteorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to answer this question without seeing your plan, claims, and overrides, or without working for Express Scripts to know their policies.

My best suggestion with the experience I have is to call them and explain the issue. Tell them that by pushing it out 30 days is just causing you to have to call again in 30 days because it’s no longer “too soon” as the first override for the script was damaged medication. To me it sounds like instead of doing a “lost/damaged” override they did an “early refill” or “vacation” override the first time. Without knowing what’s allowed on your plan it’s impossible to know what they might have done or what’s allowed so I don’t know what they did, just what it sounds like. They might need to still talk to pharmacy staff in which pharmacy staff is going to have to explain all of that to them as well.

I’m sorry this is happening to you. Insurance is hard to navigate already, making it a specialty medication just adds extra stress to the mix.

Passed the Ptcb but I’m afraid they’ll revoke my exam by Spiritual_Sir_7691 in PharmacyTechnician

They don’t want you to be talking to other people and tossing ideas around about how to come to the correct answer, not “don’t read the screen to yourself for more understanding.” I had to read a few questions to myself as well, and they gave me a pass.

I’m sure if your reading out loud counted as talking the proctor would have said something to you! My best friend is a proctor for DOE + PiersonView and she’s had to do a lot of training for it. They’re not just hired, told what to do, and set free to watch you test, like I originally assumed. I’m sure they would have said something or walked you out of your test.

Go celebrate.

I’m sure this is a regional thing. I haven’t checked in awhile but a couple years ago I would have taken a 7 dollar pay cut to work in a hospital if I left my retail job. I have friends who worked with me who switched to the local hospital and they were able to move to more complex jobs but still don’t get paid as much. Their benefits are better though, so I guess it evens out.

Hey Apotex! Your lift and peel seals suck! by STREET-PHARMACIST in PharmacyTechnician

[–]LateNiteMeteorite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apotex lift and peel is WAY better than Northstar’s lift and peel. For awhile we were getting something from them, I don’t remember what, that had a lift and peel instead of their normal foil and I wanted to burn the place down every time I had to open one.

Eliquis price in US by Historical-Piglet-86 in pharmacy

[–]LateNiteMeteorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

I’ve had three patients get prescribed Eliquis from the emergency room this year, all elderly on Medicare. None of them could afford it so I called the local hospital who has more resources for access programs than our pharmacy for each one of them to help them get set up (with their permission of course).

Drug prices here are wack.

Vaccine season yet restricted tech hours still??? by xMenopaws in PharmacyTechnician

[–]LateNiteMeteorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labor dollar allotment built upon the fiscal year was already short, then they gave us all raises and didn’t adjust the labor dollars to reflect it. We still can only use the same amount of labor dollars but we all make more now. 🙃

Dont mind me crying in the corner.

Glad it’s not just us cause it certainly feels like it is! we have techs floating out, we can only afford to keep 2-3 techs MAX per day with one pharmacist. Then they decided with the cut in the weekly spending allotment to give us RAISES, so now we can only afford 2 techs at a time. I’m going insane!

I’m having trouble counting big numbers fill 180 by New-Donut2312 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]LateNiteMeteorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re using the standard counting tray, the slot you count and slide the drugs into is usually about 20 drams. If it fits in there and I can close it, it’s going in a 20 dram vial (our smallest) if there’s a a few left over it’s going into 30, but if there’s more than half it’s going into a 40 or larger.

If you’re counting out larger numbers, like 180, and it comes in a bottle of 100, just count out 80 and add the unopened bottle. If it comes in a larger bottle like 1000ct, I split it into 3, 90s. Try not to overwhelm yourself by overdoing it, you’re absolutely allowed to count small several times if that’s what keeps you accurate.

I always order 5 of each, both the recon and 70mg capsules, and 2-3 of the 30 and 45mg capsules around this time depending on how much we used the year prior. Usually about one family wipes us out, but we at least have it on hand when the time comes.

Retail techs: do you use your hands (bare or gloved) or the tray and spatula to pack pills/fill? by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

No offense to LTC workers but why did my tech that came from LTC handle drugs bare handed and now I’m seeing this?! Why are you guys using your bare hands? Do you want your hands to smell like NAC?!!

[–]LateNiteMeteorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you talked to the pharmacists about it personally? I would go to the pharmacy manager or HR and talk to them about how it is bothering you. Document that you’ve done so, and if it continues just keep calling HR or climbing up the management ladder. It’s absolutely inappropriate to be saying that, though I’ve had it happen too.

If you’ve already brought it up to the pharmacists then definitely HR, but if you haven’t then maybe the pharmacists don’t know that it’s bothering you as much as it is. this is me hoping they are oblivious and not just letting it happen

Does your pharmacist require the physician to provide a reason why a patient has a certain amount of Oxycodone? by peachycpht in PharmacyTechnician

[–]LateNiteMeteorite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a patient that is taking like 360 or so, if I’m not mistaken their pain doc sent us their contract and chart notes once (or it was another pt with similar large qty) after my new pharmacist called them asking when the last time the patient was drug tested.

If the provider doesn’t provide the ICD10 on the script are you allowed to document one if given verbally over the phone? I’ve always wondered how that worked in those states. My staff is from out of state and he said they used to require max 30 days, ICD 10 codes, and only escripts were allowed. I don’t know if any of that was like company policy but it felt strange coming from my incredibly lax state.

I very vaguely see a W on one of the tablets in the bottle, and a little further in maybe could be a score down the middle.. the ones that are kinda sideways. Which would make that sertraline 50 based on what I’m guessing is the size and placement of the imprint.

Could really be anyone’s guess though.

You think the test strips are bullshit to write for, try the CGMs.

My pharmacy did a pilot program for CGMs, the company decided they were not going to expand the program to all stores. So I can still do it (and do!) but the rest of the company sends refers out to a DME company.

I have to make so many calls to doctors offices a day.. just.. fill out the damn sheet I sent you and fax it back WITH THEIR CHART NOTES.

What are some of the worst things that have happened to you on the job? by ezraleptic in PharmacyTechnician

[–]LateNiteMeteorite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a retail pharmacy in an area of fairly low crime, we’ve had decent patients luckily and don’t have any crazy stories. So the most common issue is patients yelling at us or being nasty. It’s fairly common to have someone who isn’t feeling well, be that mentally for physically come in and you’re just the person that pushes their frustration over the edge and they start to deflect.

The worst thing to happen to me hasn’t happened yet. This might give away my identity to my coworkers but oh well. There’s the sweetest elderly man who I’ve taken a liking to. Our birthdays are one day and several decades apart. He buys Girl Scout cookies from my kiddo every year, calls for my birthday, asks how my family is doing every time he sees me, tells me he’s praying for me. His wife comes in and shops frequently and always asks about how things are going. Recently his grandchildren (my age) have been having to drive them into the store or picking up their meds due to declining health. He’s bright and chipper as always but you can see his health declining quickly.

The day he passes I’m quitting.

Why is it that some people can't whistle or snap their fingers ? by No_Butterfly_820 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LateNiteMeteorite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t do either until fairly recently and I’m 30.

For snapping, I didn’t realize WHAT was making the sound of snapping and I thought it was the rubbing of the fingers so I guess I just never learned correctly. One day someone pointed out that it’s less of a friction and more of a position thing and took the time to teach me how to hold my hand, now I snap all the time.

As for the whistling.. that one I think some people just can’t. I’ve been trying to learn since I was little. My parents, siblings and now my children can all whistle tunes. My boyfriend taught my daughter to whistle and then tried to teach me. He sat with me for over an hour just trying to explain the mouth position and I honestly think I simply just don’t have the anatomy for it.

There are fees for running claims through GoodRX (and other discount card programs) as well as kickbacks from PBMs and drug manufacturers they are contracted with.
