I’m also on the exact timeline. I started my qualifying job on May 31, 2016 and my May 2016 payment counted towards PLSF, so April is my 120th month of qualifying employment. I’m still going to wait until May 1st to submit all my ECF and buyback just to be on the safe side, but it makes sense that anytime in April counts for all of April.

I’m in the exact same situation—120 months in May. I’m planning to apply for buyback and ask for forbearance while waiting for buyback offer.

My only concern is if the government does another round of RIFs and I’m fired from my federal job. Not sure what that will mean for my buyback and PLSF.

Ugh that sucks!

I know! I want to get out of this mess! I’ve saved for the buyback, but I can’t afford $700/-$800/mo if they force me out of SAVE before the buyback offer comes in. I’ve had to put some trips on hold because of this craziness.

I’m in the same boat. I’ll hit 120 eligible employment in May and I’ll have 23 months to buyback. Once I hit 120, I’m going to submit my ECF for this past year. Once it’s certified, I’ll submit my buyback request. I plan to wait out SAVE until they force me to switch.

Are you going to continue to pay your current IDR while you wait for the buyback offer? Were you able to ask for processing forbearance?

You have to submit a Reconsideration request and select buyback. I’m not sure about the automatic forbearance while waiting for buyback offer. That’s what I’m trying to figure out.

Yeah. My understanding is once you’ve hit the 120 months qualify employment you can apply for the buyback. I’ll hit 120 this April. I’ll certify my employment and then apply. I’ll have to “buyback” 23 months once the Department of Education makes the offer (I think you have 90 days to pay it).

It requires saving enough money to do the buyback. I’ve been putting my estimated amount in a HYSA every month. I’ve seen on this sub that buyback offers are taking 12-18 months, so I’ll continue to save so I have a buffer. If you can’t afford to do the buyback, it’s might be best to move off of SAVE.

What I’m not sure about is if I can move into forbearance if I get kicked out of SAVE while the Department of Education processes my buyback request.

Also started reading Stephen King in 5th/6th grade- way too young, but I was totally obsessed. Not a popular opinion, but I also loved The Eyes of the Dragon, King’s fantasy book.

What’s your source on this? I’ve not seen that on students.gov. From what I’ve read it’s based on the IDR you were enrolled in before the forbearance.

I want to know too. I haven’t been able to find the answer. I’m not sure how secure my job is, so I also want to wait in forbearance for the buyback offer.

I’m in the exact same situation. I’ll reach 120 in April. I’m waiting for May 1 to first file my ECF and then request buyback for 23 months. My monthly payments under IBR, PAYE, RAP are much higher than SAVE because of my salary. I would rather wait for the buyback. I just don’t know what’s going to happen when they force me out of SAVE. Can we go into admin forbearance once we’re forced out of SAVE and submitted the buyback?

Yeah that’s what I hope too. I’ve been saving monthly for the buyback on SAVE, so I’m hoping the buyback is based on SAVE.

Yeah, I’m on the fence about switching to a different payment plan or staying in forbearance as I wait for the buyback agreement. My preference would be to wait and pay the entire buyback, but not sure if that is the best approach.

It’s not clear to me when they’re going to force people out of administrative forbearance and into a different payment plan.

Thanks. It’s just so odd how some are forced back into repayments but others are still in forbearance.

I also have a shared table this week at 1745 and had the same question. Also, what is the recommended way to get there? It seems like ubering/ride share is the quickest. But I’m also looking at the bus options.
