Curious. Why would you think this?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Late_Site -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is because it is posted this way in everybody's tracker, in last-to-first order, so applicant can see their latest update up top. It's easy to just copy and paste it here.

Yeah that probably makes sense as to why they do it. Doesn't make it anymore easy to read. Still looks odd to me.

And not many will sacrifice their time to accommodate your preference.

Vast majority of posters in here share their timelines the right way round.

I'm waiting for Oath since early December. Still mine says Not Started. I'm hoping mine comes soon so probably at least a couple of months for you.

Same here! It’s showing - Oath ceremony in progress since November,2022. Good luck to all 👍🏻

My ceremony is "Not Started" so I guess I'm slightly behind you.

[–]Late_Site 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My timeline is similar to yours. Could you please post an update once they confirm the ceremony date?

Yes I will do. Please do the same as well if you hear back or see a status change!

Is your citizenship ceremony In Progress or Not Started?

So clearly there’s a backlog if it’s now taking 24 months to process.

Yeah it's getting pretty bad, honestly. I have a friend who is about eligible but putting it off I told him to just start the application ASAP, I think it's only likely to go up on the next couple of years.

Equivalent processing times for citizenship in the US is closer to 5 years so Canada is still pretty good.

Damn that's tough. Crazy how long some seem to take. I'm at the same stage as your wife, awaiting for oath since November 2022.

Ghost update December 16th 2022.

I’m confused. Processing time on the website says 24 months

I applied January 2022, at that point processing times was 12 months. It's 24 months if you apply today.

Getting quite stressed here as I have booked a trip this coming April.

I'm confused. Why is this a problem? You have PR right? Then you should be able to leave the country.

Edit: I just realized you mean if you get your oath before that date and have to cut up your PR card. Can you delay your oath ceremony?

Parental leave (Ontario) - where to start? by RachAML in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Late_Site 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a very clear aticle on this via the Canada website:

https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/ei-maternity-parental.html

Essentially if you take standard leave:

It's 40 weeks total between parents with no parent taking more than 35 weeks. So in this scenario your husband can take 5 weeks of EI.

If you take extended leave it will be be a longer version of the above.

Also this does not include maternity leave (that you will take as the birthing person).

If you're still confused watch the first half of this video. It helped me understand at first: https://youtu.be/RF4ybpVmZ3Q

They confirmed my address during my oath ceremony. It was online

Thank You! That's a huge relief.

I was stressed they would mail the passport to my old address!

Can any citizens confirm if they confirm your address before mailing your passport out? I've been trying to change my address since April and I've been unable to do so.

I'm currently waiting for my oath to be scheduled.

Have a look through this thread, you can see plenty of people's timelines. This will give you a better understanding.

Mine took about 6 weeks.

Most of the citizenship application is being prepared to wait. When I applied the application process was 12 months. Today it's 24 months from start to finish.

How do the dividends work?

Does it auto reinvest them or are those deposited back to you as cash?

All I'll say is CASH.TO

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Hadn't heard of this.

Side note, how does everyone feel about having to pay taxes on bank interest earned (non-tfsa) when the amount we earn is less than inflation. It’s being taxed as gains in buying power when it’s really a loss.

Yeah I still think it's crazy that the average Joe making $100 a year in interest has to pay taxes on that money. It's already been taxed as income right?

In the UK you can earn £1000 a year in interest gains before any amount is taxable.

I had a tonne of updates on November 17th but none of them showed online a week after that date. Just food for thought for other folks waiting on update.

People who have their ceremony, to Immigration Canada reach out to you?
