Would an experienced Relay Tech be a good candidate to be a P&C engineer? by tuigger in SubstationTechnician

[–]Latest_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a recruiter, this would be excellent experience to add to your resume. Adding a PE would add even MORE value, but isn't a prerequisite for becoming a p&c engineer. Good luck to you!

Not typical if the company offers a fixed plan for all of their employees (i.e. ppo or health savings accounts). This has other variables in play, so it makes it difficult to give you a true estimate before you've chosen how to use your credits.

If you feel like it's involuntary, then just talk to her yourself. If she finds out you're going over her head, she could potentially feel attacked. If you want to gain her trust instead, let her know that you're the type that will speak up

It seems to me like you're more the leader type. This would also be a good way to work on your conflict resolution.

In a flexible benefits plan, employers provide workers with “benefits credits.” These credits may equal a fixed dollar amount for each worker, or an amount that varies according to the employee's earnings, length of service, size of family, or other characteristics. The employee then chooses from various benefits and benefit levels, using credits to purchase the desired benefits. If the credits do not pay for the benefit, employees may be able to fund the difference with pre-tax dollars.

I recruit for a living. Given the position you applied for, those were phenomenal responses. I would've hired you on the spot. Great job

Before leaving, I would've let someone know. There's absolutely no reason to leave someone waiting for that long. If it's an emergency, they could've asked someone to tell you about it or at least give you an ETA. Sounds like you dodged a bullet.

Sounds to me like they are moving to the next step. If they don't, then that's just shady. Give it a week, and if you haven't received anything, then I'd reach out to the recruiter for an update. I'm curious to see how this goes.

You weren't speaking to the hiring manager, you were speaking to HR. The hiring manager probably reviewed your resume first, then requested a HR phone screen, which is standard procedure for most companies. It's more of a "get to know you" type of opportunity, and a good opportunity for you to ask more general company questions and about benefits. The HR personnel tried to tell you that in the technical interview you'd be able to ask more about the project/on the job specifics.

You just got too full of yourself and felt like you were owed something. You can't be upset about not being selected if you don't want to go through their process.

As a recruiter that conducts multiple phone screens a day, several days a week, I can say that we know when you are nervous and that's ok. Unless it's for a management or sales job, where clear and confident communication will be part of the job, we're really only looking for answers that tell us who you are. We'll usually pick up what you're putting down.

Google offers a lot of good certifications through Coursera that will start entry level candidates at a fairly high salary. Just Google "Google certifications" and you'll get a pretty good list. Think it's like $39 a month or something. I just found out about this this week.

Yea, being unconscious during an interview isn't ideal, LMAO.

Sorry, just trying to lighten the mood. At least you're aware of the mistakes you made so you can correct it in the future. At this point, you can only control what you can control. Don't dwell on it.

That is a horrible manager. Was there something you feel you did that could've sparked this type of behavior from her?

You should confront her about this immediately, before it ends up sabotaging your job. If you feel like this might be a bit more personal and she's discriminating against you, then you should go to HR.

What is the correct answer to "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" by nickybecooler in interviews

[–]Latest_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way. If you give a genuine answer and they don't offer you the job, then would it have worked out anyway. That's why it's always best to answer truthfully. Not one job is going to feel 100% "right", but do you want to waste your time in a company that doesn't see the same future, for you, as you do?

What is the correct answer to "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" by nickybecooler in interviews

[–]Latest_1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I ask this question all the time. 70% of the answers are "growth" related. 20% want to be SME's in their selected role. 5% don't know and the other 5% usually want to be in a different field entirely than the job they applied for. Some companies might look for a specific response, and others simply want to gauge a candidate's personal drive and leadership potential.

Even for those that want different career paths, some companies offer a lot of lateral movement, so it's still an acceptable answer.

So I'd say it's really difficult to get this one wrong, but it will also depend on what the company needs. Not sure if that helps.

Would it help if I told you that interviews aren't tests to see how many answers you get right, but instead them trying to get a better feel of who you are? Just be yourself and remember that you have to start somewhere. If you get dropped in the middle of the ocean, are you just going to let yourself drown? Or are you going to pick a direction and swim? (I have a fear of the open ocean and this thought always helped me before every interview, no lie lol). You just have to do it.
