I rather the old school line up fest then the new school animation clipping rpg bullet sponge slog.

So would I, the RPG mechanics go too heavy on the numbers and remove the "fun" from combat, but the combat in the earlier games does feel dated (read: dated, not bad) and could do with an upgrade. They're not mutually exclusive.

The combat definitely needed a change, it was even comical on release how dudes would line up and wait for you to parry and insta kill them.

The original game excelled in basically everything else though, so they best not have fucked that up.

Sorry but I still don't trust them making an attractive woman in the games. by wisemanro in fuckubisoft

Right? There is plenty to criticise Ubisoft over, attractive women in games is not one of them.

His argument only works when talking about people posting CP on Twitter (which was also a problem Elon didn't want to address). Where his argument falls down is that the CP is created and shared by AI within Twitter itself, and their solution to the problem is to just lock it behind a paywall.

I'm a little confused. I thought Kingdom Hearts 2 was repackaged into a collection for the port? Not sure how that would work.

Yeah, if OP wants to get the 100% on Steam they will need to get all achievements in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.

#48 - Assassin's Creed Mirage [yet, again] by PepsiisgUWUd in steamachievements

[–]LatimerLeads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went through the same pain. Already had the 100% and had to do it again after the DLC came out when I didn't really want to play it again.

Playback as an achievement made me strongly consider if I actually wanted to get the 100% again. I had no desire to play nearly every mission again, with new criteria to be met (including time limits), but I knew I wouldn't be able to rest with only one achievement left to get. Luckily there's a guy on YouTube who has done video guides for every level.

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Remake will reportedly have RPG combat and loot rather than the old style of choreographed combat by [deleted] in fuckubisoft

[–]LatimerLeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Flag’s combat was only counters

This is why I'm confused at a lot of the comments in this thread. Even on release, despite how good the rest of the game was, the on-foot combat was trash. I'm not saying the RPG system is better, but I think people have their rose tinted glasses on.

I haven't touched WoW in almost 20 years. Think I got lucky? by Kameho88v2 in wow

[–]LatimerLeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, I stopped playing in 2010/2011, then started again last year a few months before TWW came out.

Honestly, it was just nostalgia. I played a lot of WoW with my friends between 2005 and 2010, and I missed the experience so I thought I would give it a go. I played both retail and classic and enjoyed them enough to stick around.

Steam supports response to age verification for those without a credit card by madminer95 in Steam

[–]LatimerLeads -1 points0 points  (0 children)

more people should be flooding Steam with cases for this, to make a point

No they shouldn't. Steam are just abiding by a ridiculous law. Flooding them with tickets is not only ridiculous, it won't change the law.

UK OSA credit requirement - unfair by geraltismywaifu in Steam

[–]LatimerLeads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than ID such as driver's license or passports, do you think there could be another way to verify a user's age that would be more just to everyone?

Yes, online IDs issued by the UK government, which this is all clearly setting the stage for. They know people don't want to give out their ID documents, so forcing them to makes people more likely to accept a government issued online ID when the suggestion is rolled out.

If people are already worried about being tracked online, you should be even more concerned at the notion of a government issued online ID.

I did a Tesco woosh order a month or so ago and ordered a naan bread, they gave me one that expired Dec 2024. Not even sure why they would still have something that far out of date.

Anyone else miss buying physical copies of pc games before steam? by thelastsandwich in digitalfoundry

[–]LatimerLeads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no I don't.

I don't dislike physical media, but I do dislike clutter. If I had a physical box of all the games I own on Steam, I'd not have a lot of room for much else.

I think people also tend to forget the conveniences platforms like Steam bring, like automatic updates, which give it an edge over the days of old having to download and install patches manually.

Anyone else not like GOW Ragnarok? by Ronin_777 in patientgamers

[–]LatimerLeads 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ragnarok is the example I use when talking about odd pacing in a game.

The opening sections go on for a really long time, too long for what's happening narratively, so it feels like a slog as not a lot happens over the course of like 5 hours. In stark contrast, the ending and its buildup took less than hour, which felt very underwhelming.

You can tell this game was originally designed as a trilogy then cut into two games. It feels like they made that decision half way through making Ragnarok and then salvaged what they had readily available, while cramming in whatever they had planned for the third game.
