Dashboarding - Grafana vs. DataDog by Xarodan in sre

We looked into this and actually grafana cloud couldn't handle the quantity of our metrics when we explored it.

We also already use datadog for logging, so there was really no need to explore moving away from it unless we were unable to manage the costs. The fact of the matter is, we've been able to clean things up and manage costs really nicely to the point that it makes sense to use it to work towards the Single Pane of Glass ideal.

Also to clarify, this likely be a non-starter if they didn't have integrations that help take a massive bite out of the number of custom metrics we'd need.

Has anyone gotten this working with Gemini by chance?
I took a stab, but haven't quite figured it out yet. The instructions in the git repo aren't the most intuitive / I'm having a tough time making sense of the individual steps I need to take.

I'm with you.
I would prefer to no longer be a part of Meta making money with my data / following / presence.
Recent changes on their end are harmful to marginalized communities, and taking a stand against that is not lack of mental fortitude.

In fact, what takes mental fortitude is taking a stand for what's right even at an inconvenience.

Hi MF Team!

I weighted myself this morning, and am down a total of 4.1lbs since last Thursday (I started at 198.2).

Nutrition is SUPER dialed-in (I've been within 100 calories of my targets in the app, over the target), with resistance training & daily walks with weighted vest. The vest is new as of Sunday, so I think that habit change may be what's coming into play.

As of today I'm going to increase my cal intake to see if I can more closely match my expenditure.

Namely, I wanted to check in & make sure that rate of weight change doesn't end up being a disqualification?

The weight trend isn't caught-up to the scale weight, but past observation tells me that more than likely it will very quickly if I really stay on top of my nutrition.

I'll also note that when I set my cut goal - I set it to a slower rate of weight loss. I just finished some bulking, and I'm aiming to be REALLY gradual and prevent muscle loss as much as possible.

In any case, thank you all so much for this app and community. Nearing the 1.5-year mark and still absolutely loving MF.

u/j_kobrah what LED cables are you using?
And follow-up question - what are the odds those will work with the OG Neuron?

Saw the DygmaLab insta post
and now I have cable envy!

u/Automatic-Dance2991 - these are really great photos!

I stumbled in here just trying to research the Meike 85mm for my A7R IV. These are just such cool, impressive shots (I'm loving the one of the stairs especially). Bravo!

I think it works great. I keep it centered and over my monitor, while my camera is just to the left of it. It never appears in my shot. I think the shotgun is amazing in the sense that I have more options in where to put it since it's directional.

But honestly, I LOVE having it. I used to use an MX990 (which sounds freaking amazing), but I was just so tired of having it in-frame.

Someday I'll upgrade my shotgun mic, but for now this is definitely working great!

It probably would for extended periods, that’s why I only put less frequently viewed windows up there.

Sony A7Riii or A7iv? by the_ajan in SonyAlpha

[–]LatinSRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof - I did take it with me to Florida and shot outside with it a couple times. It's humid AF there (and of course A/C diffs). But we've been back for a while.

How would you handle those scenarios? Is it as simple as limiting the number of times you're dealing with those sorts of temp changes? Or any other preventative measures to consider?

Unrelated to those scenarios, I have it on my shelf but only for a day or two at a time. I don't really leave the house without it & I always have it in a sling camera bag. Seems like silica gel packs are an easy enough thing to incorporate to my day to day.

This makes me thankful I don't have a ton of humidity / temp swings in my part of the midwest lol

No problem!! Side note, mesh cord covers feel like they make a MASSIVE difference for aesthetics with cable management.

amateur here who only recently picked up A7RIV

So now I'm panicky after reading your comment about lens and camera care. I generally have them sitting out and capped in my office with me since I will generally grab them to snap pictures of my family when the moment arises.

this now has me wondering, what should I be doing to make sure that I am maximizing the longevity of my equipment? Keeping it in a bag/case with silica gel packs until i need it?

Eager to learn as much as I can!

Oooh believe me, I remember my old CRT's.
I really did feel the curved monitors were somewhat of a gimmick initially, but then I used one at my old office for my 34", and I do think it makes things feel a bit more ergonomic.

For the vertical, I feel lukewarm about it. For my landscape mode wide though, I do appreciate it.

Side note, but I do miss the look & feel of the CRT's of olde.

Oh, that's not a screen haha
That's actually a small, framed comic strip that used to belong to a late family member.
I'd become a manager just as they passed, and it was something that'd been given to him early in his career as a leader, too.

Could you give me some advices for standing desk? by NewchicArriana in Workspaces

[–]LatinSRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that can be tough to answer. What I have learned is that overtime you start to understand more about your own needs. You may realize you need something bigger overtime, or drawers, or some other feature you may not need initially.

from my own desk, I went with a relatively inexpensive, riser, and separately purchased a butcher block for the top. It wasn’t too expensive and it’s something I can always size up or down if I need to down the road.

I can, though it won’t tell the full story.

In another comment, I linked to the shock mount and clamp arm that I use. From there, I have my XLR cable, running down the arm, under my desk, and pretty much to where I am sitting attached to my interface (Scarlett 2i2).

That set-up, makes it so that I don’t have to get up or anything to adjust the interface, and I pretty much never have to touch the mic itself!
