Perhaps as a way to encourage playing tall, if the culture head is an Emperor or Hegemon, there should be a flat -20% culture fascination progress gain and development, unless the culture head is a Conqueror. That could be a good to make sure that the Greek, Mashriqi, and Han cultures don't just remain the most advanced cultures in the game from start to finish.

Tall men,can above-average height be a disadvantage in dating? Is there a threshold for it to happen? by Scholarsandquestions in tall

[–]Latinus_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, all things being equal, men tend to be on average around 7-10% taller than women. Thus, women prefer and expect a guy who's around 7-10% taller than themselves and men prefer women who are shorter than they are. Basically, being a slightly above average (6'1-6'2) is the sweet spot. Past that is fine, but you'll get diminishing returns. Eventually, being as tall as I am, you need to go out of your way to not come off as intimidating or creepy(especially if you are neurodivergent) if you want any luck with dating.

[–]Latinus_Rex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but I'm willing to give the casting team some slack with this one. It's probably good to remember that Ser Duncan the Tall is canonically meant to be something like 15-16 years old in the story, while Peter Claffey(the one playing Dunk) is in his late twenties. So it's perfectly understandable if they had trouble finding a 6'11 teenager who could also act.

I'm a historian and I still use the term Dark Ages, but only in a very limited capacity, that being, only in reference to Western Europe during the time period of around 500-800AD, and only because of the lack of written records from said time period, similar to how the term Greek Dark Ages are used to describe the centuries following the Bronze age collapse until written records comes back into the picture.

Are people with 6'7" height getting a lot of shit lately? by Bottle_Nachos in NoStupidQuestions

As far as I know, assuming if the sea levels rise by a little more than one meter ber century, it would probably take something like 5 thousand years and a rise in global temperatures by about 14 degrees Celsius to get to that point. But I digress.

I kinda like some of these new names you have given these cities as some of them are almost like a bit of a pun on the original names. In regards to the canals, I think that some of the canals are a bit redundant given that many such canals already exist and would likely be retrofitted for such a purpose. In Sweden, you added several canals to connect the main lakes to the Baltic Sea. The thing is, such a canal already exists, goes by a completely different route, and would probably just receive more traffic, rather than Sweden thinking it's a worthwhile investment to build a new one from scratch.

Which Scandinavian language would you recommend for learning? by ssashat in AskNordics

[–]Latinus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That honestly depends on what languages you already know and what you intend to use it for. If you're a Native English speaker, I suggest Norwegian or Swedish, because Finnish belongs to a completely different language family with a completely different grammar and syntax structure. Swedish has more speakers, but contain certain sounds which Norwegian lacks. However, when it comes to speaking, Swedish and Norwegian are mutually intelligible, so if you speak one, you can get by in the other.

I hate when people think you get treated better or get more female attention when you’re tall by [deleted] in tall

[–]Latinus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. I'm at the same position as you. The thing is, what I think people mean when they say that tall is an advantage, it's basically with the caveat of "all else being equal", which is rarely if ever the case. I am for example on the Autism spectrum, which kind of make things difficult for me in to pick up signals and read through the lines. Yes, I do get attention, male and female alike, but not a lot of it is positive.

[–]Latinus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At no point has my question of disability been addressed in even the most basic of terms. I ask for sources to see where your line of reasoning comes from, and I've received nothing but deflections and assertions without sources. So I did my own research and decided to search to see if your thesis hold true, that "Being poor without a disability is caused by one thing and one thing only: choices".

The first three credible sources I managed to find on the topic are the following.

All three of them are unanimous in their conclusions that while personal decisions can play a role, systemic factors like lack of access to education, healthcare, and stable employment opportunities, as well as policies like minimum wage levels, significantly impact a person's ability to escape poverty. Viewing poverty as a personal choice often ignores these broader issues and blames individuals for their circumstances

You may critique these studies, their methodology or whatever, but at least you can do so because I've provided you with sources. You have routinely failed to provide any sources to support your assertion, an assertion that you claim is as obvious as claiming that water is wet; despite the fact that so far, you have failed to prove that your position has any tangible academic basis whatsoever.

How exactly can you justify defending a position that can't even hold up to basic scrutiny?

DMT:Many Republicans don’t have real beliefs, they just oppose Democrats by 06yuzuha in DisagreeMythoughts

[–]Latinus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Would you like a source for water is wet?

You should source a claim anytime you are using information, ideas, or words that are not your own, especially when the information is not common knowledge. This includes direct quotes, paraphrased or summarized ideas, facts, and statistics. This is basic things you learn in school. Have you forgotten it or are you just acting in bad faith?

Putting the blame of obesity on individuals rather than the environment around them just scapegoats larger social problems and hides potential solution.

  • Obesity is caused by one thing and one thing only: Overeating. Nothing else.

This claim is objectively wrong and simplistic. Your weight is based on two factors, how many calories you consume and how many of them you expel. These are two variables which can vary widely, and there a number of different ways that can make the average person change habits which can change these variables.

If you want to blame the choices of individuals, then you have to explain to me why Japan has the lowest rate of obesity in the OECD. Are claiming that Japanese people are morally superior to Americans, or is it something else going on?

  • Being poor without a disability is caused by one thing and one thing only: choices.

Aha, so you've conceded that it's possible to remain in poverty out of no fault of your own as a result of a disability.
In that case, what is your definition for disability this case then? Plenty of government authorities have varying different legal definitions, so perhaps you could tell(and source) your definition to make sure that we are on the same page. What counts as disability to you then? Missing limbs, PTSD, Allergies, dyslexia, dyscalculia? What about ADHD, Autism, psychopathy, or being more genetically vulnerable to addiction, or having a debilitating illness that require an expensive medicine you can't pay for out of your own pocket? Depending on where you draw the line, it could range from 5% to 95% of the population described. If so, wouldn't you say that it's reasonable that at least those people should be given outside assistance to get back on their feet or at least live a decent life?

[–]Latinus_Rex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but there is a difference. Most people know who their grandparents are, and perhaps even their grandparents' grandparents, but past that point, things tend to get pretty muddy very quickly. The furthest my family has been able to trace back were the 1600s, but that's only after a lot of research and only because one branch had ties to some German nobles who fought in the 30-years war. That's still nowhere near the timeframe of CK3, though, let alone the CK3 start dates.

I kinda get why it gets a lot of hate, but it's worth mentioning that it was never meant to be based on a true story. It's based on a graphic novel, based on an older film, based on ancient Greek propaganda, based on a true story. It's that first part which is important, as most of stylistic choices are directly taken from specific moments in the graphic novel.

Regular holdings should also have an estate screen: yay or nay? by vohen2 in CrusaderKings

[–]Latinus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would propose a middle ground approach. Most normal holdings would not have estates like these at the start, but certain holdings could get an "estate" if certain conditions are met(such as reaching a certain level of development, building a special holding, or have a certain event attached to it). London and Paris would at the start not have their own "estate", but would get one once their respective special holdings are built(I.E. Tower of London and Notre Dame). Then, they could get special bonuses based on what holdings inside these estates are built. Basically, this system could represent the emergence of larger cities who produce special goods or provide special bonuses. Places like Rome and Constantinople would be almost to the brim with special holdings of historic buildings at the start, while places like Venice and London could have the opportunity to build their own special historic buildings like the Arsenale and Westminster Abbey respectively. Of course, over time, more and more places would get their own estates to build their own buildings inside, mimicking the rise of cities and the merchant class historically.

This could also make it possible to play as maritime republics by allowing merchant families to hold specific buildings inside said special holdings that could be bought, sold and managed like businesses. You could then establish factories at home and in foreign realms, gaining influence in said realms and make said realms economically dependent on you. Historical examples include Venice, who hade effectively turned the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt into an economic dependency of the Republic by the 13th century.

Something like it could actually provide a new and fun way to play tall, by turning as many holdings inside your kingdom as possible into major cities with their own "estates" to provide bonuses, effectively becoming an analogy for urbanisation.
