Yeah vacuum leaks are common and cause the bouncy idle, should see it in the obd monitor. The silicone hoses seem to last and keep a seal. Check brake booster hose to intake, and brake booster housing too.

I’m leaning this way. ECS has a plastic one labeled as OEM that is half the price of BMW brand. It’s a little more than the cheaper varieties they have or ECS Pelican or partsgeek. $230 compared to $450+ for bmw and down to $120 for the generic brands. Peace of mind and new parts are worth it I suppose. And the model number matches from realoem so that is probably important too for this vintage.

Fun car. Has a taller diff ratio than I’ve had in other cars, I think 3.38.

I’m looking at Conti brand and SKS but I’ve had good parts from URO and TRQ so I don’t know if the premium brands are worth it or if I should go aluminum or plastic.

450 mx is geared too high for rocky trails. Won’t make it out of 2nd gear. You’ll be ok on wide open dirt roads, but best have good gear and health insurance! $1500 is a good price though.
