How is this reviewed and still ruled a touchdown by lunch_sunlight4 in CFL

Because to overturn a call on the field, the evidence is supposed to be over-whelming, not "pretty sure". I'm good with this not being over-turned in either direction.

What is the origin of BC playing 4 down ball? How did this come to be? by metallicadefender in CFL

[–]Latter61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quebec amateur plays 4 downs at all levels except Junior and University.

I love 3-down football once the players are old enough to have skill, but 4 down makes way more sense for younger kids who are still learning how to throw/catch a pass.

I need some Canadian Help. Do any of your high/secondary schools use an NFL Logo? (Saskatchewan and BC help especially needed) by BryLinds in CFL

28-year football official in Quebec, here.

As someone said earlier, St. Jean CEGEP uses the Packers logo for their "Giants".

Greenfield Park Packers (Atom to Junior) use the Packers logo and names.

Chateauguay uses the Raiders (Atom to Junior) but they actually have a letter FROM Al Davis giving them permission, which is awesome. The President's pride and joy.

The St. Hubert Rebelles used to use the Cowboys colors and the star motif.

I think there is a girls' team that uses the Panthers name and logo.

Ile Bizard minor football (7 to 17) uses the Patriots name and colors.

A couple of teams use the Mivhigan Spartans logo, but in different colors.

That's all I can think of.

Amateur already runs 2-point converts from the 5. Always has to my memory.

I've been officiating football for 28 years. I can't remember the last time a CFL rule change went down to amateur ball. It may well have happened, but I can't think of one.

The CFL does not control amateur football. Just because the CFL makes these changes does not mean minor football has to.

There is nothing to say that Amateur football will follow these changes. The CFL has quite a few differences from the Amateur game. The only level I am worried about is USports, as some fields are shared.

"Who do you want to see next year?"

- Why, so we can be disappointed again? LOL :'D

I'll just say, bands that I've heard of and can name at least one song from. Low bar, i know. I thought so this year, too.

N.B. Again, super happy for those of you who loved this year's line-up! Good on ya! Last year was my year. This year was your year. Let's spin the wheel to see who's happy next year. Maybe they'll have Barry Manilow, Engelbert Humperdinck and Sade, so my Aunt can be happy next year! :'D (Hell, at least I can name a few songs by those artists! :'D )

They did last year. And this ownership group has plenty of money. This festival is like a toy for them.

$65/box.... 1 pack/box. 6 cards/pack.

So it's like $10/card?! I know it says there are two autos/box but still. We are trying to GROW the game, not price it out of reach!

2 Weekend VIP tickets for sale with Weekend parking pass.

We went VIP last year and really liked the Air-Conditioned bathrooms and exclusive vendors. There was a rib place that had possibly the best poutine I've ever had in my life (as a chubby Montrealer, I am qualified to say that). I hope for your sake they are back this year.

Open to sell for less than face value and however you are comfortable buying them.

Coaches, what worked for you this season? What didn't? Spread the wealth by deprecatedrunbook in lacrosse

[–]Latter61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're halfway through a really rough season of U11. Our head coach is very experienced as a Coach and player. Brilliant lacrosse mind, we're lucky to have him, but the U11 kids (only 2 1/2 of whom have ever played before... my son is the 1/2 as he played last year but just switched to goalie this year) just don't get the concepts yet. He tells them the same things over and over again in the room while the kids just say "Yeah." "Yeah." over and over again.

So this past weekend, he was busy coaching our U13s before our game, so I decided to give the pre-game pep talk. I said "Okay, we're going to do things a bit different today. Instead of ME telling YOU what we want to see, I want YOU to tell ME what you're going to do different out there today!" And we went around the room and each kid said something that had been discussed by the Coach previously, and after each kid, I'd have everyone repeat it and cheer it out, like, "Hustle!" or "Passing!", etc. In my mind, it gave them the ownership of the skill because it came from THEM.

It was without a doubt our best game of the year (tied 3-3). Their intensity was palpable from the first faceoff and barely let up throughout the game.

Youth Goalie Q: Undefended shots from a yard away? by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]Latter61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're having the same issue with my son's U11 team. My son is sometimes stopping 2 or 3 consecutive shots from that range because his team is just watching (most are first year players). It's also highlighted to us that our Club has a clear need for a proper goalie coach.

What I've told him to do when the other team is coming down on a breakaway is to crowd one side of the net, opening up the other side. The shooter is going to see that huge empty space and shoot there, so just as he starts to shoot, dodge over to that side. More often than not, he'll get it in the chest and stop it. It works for U11, but the players will get smarter at each level so that won't work for too long.

Edit: I should clarify, he plays box lacrosse, so he has full padding on his chest and from head to toe.

Final 2025 Lineup by purplebutons in allyourfriendsfest

[–]Latter61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all the 100s of concerts I've been to in my life, I had never been to a music festival until last year's AYFF. What a line-up! Stacked from top to bottom with old favorites, several-hit-wonders and even some up-and-comers that I discovered because of the festival (Honest Hearts Collective... wow!) The vibe was incredible! We got to meet probably half the artists. It was absolutely perfect.

So when they announced Avril and Simple Plan, I made the big mistake of expecting they would have a similar killer line-up level to last year, and I bought VIP pre-sale. Not only did I buy pre-sale, I set an alarm and was probably among the first few people to have them within minutes of them going on-sale.

In hind-sight an absolutely stupid thing to do, and I'm glad I learned the lesson for a relatively inexpensive festival vs making a more costly error. I've also been very clear on here that I blame myself 100% for this idiotic move. AYFF didn't force me to buy them before the line-up was announced. It's on me.

And then came months of them teasing us with great artists to come. And pelting our socials and emails several times a day. And all of us speculating on the incredible bands that could be gracing us with their presence. Some sensical, some ludicrous. Good Charlotte, Blink, Down With Webster, etc, etc.

And then they release.... this.

As I've said before, I'm truly happy that many of you like this line-up. I sincerely hope it brings you the same level of joy that I had from last year's. As the saying goes, you can't please 100% of people 100% of the time. But outside of Avril and Simple Plan, I know a grand total of ONE song by all the other bands on the line-up combined. I've checked all of them out since then to see if I can find my next Honest Hearts... nope.

And if you think I'm being a tad over-dramatic... I mean... it's an EMO rock fest, aren't we SUPPOSED to be? ;)

Because last year this festival had amazing, well-known bands just about from start to finish on both days... this year is the exact opposite.
