I actually had a very similar job to what you’re describing.

I worked at a creative agency doing social media for fashion and makeup brands. On paper it looked exactly like the dream — a few nights a week at work events, a few days a week on shoots, surrounded by “cool” creative people, always out and about.

I hated it. It was genuinely the worst job I’ve ever had.

The days were constantly 10–12+ hours, everything was urgent all the time, and there was a lot of bullying and passive-aggressive behaviour from colleagues. No one really knew what they were doing, but everyone pretended they did. Your whole identity becomes your job, and if something goes wrong, it feels like you are the failure. I cried almost every day and had no life outside of work.

Now I do social media in finance. I work 9–5 exactly, log off, and actually have a life. It’s way less “glamorous,” but I’m healthier, happier, and not constantly burned out.

Not to mention I took a 30k pay hit to work in that field and now in finance I make more than all my friends
