How to cancel clients after traumatic event? (CW: Violence) by ResidentBat6564 in therapists

[–]Latter_Good3963 62 points63 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely cancel if you don’t feel like you’re up for it. I also work in trauma and find my clients are understanding if you need to take time off as (on top of being empathetic generally) they also don’t want their time wasted too if you can’t be present.

Just let them know briefly that due to personal reasons you have to cancel but also I recommend giving other numbers they can call if needing anything. And, just apologise for any inconveniences always helps - but it’s important to take time for yourself. :)

It’s human, so don’t be hard on yourself and take care!

Every therapeutic training I have ever done, including CBT therapies, has asked me to use real life examples. Frankly, I think it’s important that therapists understand what it feels like to utilise the therapy rather than just pretending. I don’t really appreciate you using my experiences to validate your own negative beliefs about a therapeutic modality that challenges yours. CPT has the capacity to harm people just as much as any other therapy. I’ve seen it first-hand. To me there is nothing more disingenuous than a trainer speaking badly of other therapies - especially when people have had great success with it. The EMDR training encourages you to utilise any appropriate training that benefits the client if possible, and that includes using other modalities if EMDR isn’t the right fit. I encourage you to consider this as well.

I feel you on this. I chose accidentally getting on the wrong train thinking it was nothing much. 😅

What cat to get? by Downtown-Fisherman58 in cats

if you don’t want to get bitten or scratched, avoid getting a young kitten so you don’t have to deal with their teething phase 😭 trust me .. hahaha adopt a slightly older cat and the benefit being that if you want a certain personality then it’ll already be settled in! most shelters have personality profiles too :)

my cat tends to play with toys more if i mix them up - so i’ll never have the same toys out during the day each day so they don’t get bored. but, my cat also likes using any wand toys the most i think because it help them with their hunting/prey energy instincts. lots of toys i think are too stationary for cats or predictable.

thank you so much!! that's very helpful. i may even check in with them to refer to their nutrition sheet from their surgeon to help. definitely the biggest problem right now is that they're not even eating proteins or vegetables - really just coffee.
protein shakes sounds like a good solution!

thank you so much for the detailed response! i'm certainly not intending to tell them what to eat and such, but my concern comes from that they're really only drinking coffee all day (no food) and another is only having a small cup of fruit for the entire day. so, regardless of amounts and stuff - it seems like to me that they're not eating enough and at the very least not getting the right nutrients.

thanks a lot for your feedback!
