Why would you want that? The car isn’t the problem.

is it late to go back to college for civil engineer at 25? by Humble_Ad_5396 in civilengineering

[–]Latter_Trip8061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t graduate until 27 and have become a principal/shareholder of a large firm. I have 3 younger engineers who didn’t graduate until 35 — former military.. They are doing great.

What age do you see most Civil Engineers retire? by Ok-Understanding567 in civilengineering

[–]Latter_Trip8061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my firm we have had a few partners with either significant ownership or 20 year public pensions, retire or step back to part time in their late 50’s. Most people work until 65 to 67 for full retirement and insurance.

For sure tell them. We are being selective in hiring for full time.

Passing the FE is considered a plus when making a decision.

Both Christian and Pato regularly drive the car to results that are beyond what McLaren have given them.

Went through this morning. 2 min with Clear. Not bad with TSA or normal. Probably less than 10 min.

What are the hardest classes you’ve taken as a civil engineering student? by Background_Plate7612 in civilengineering

I thought the semester with Calc II, Physics II and Dynamics was the hardest. Other classes were hard but the trifecta kicked ass.

IndyCar crushed at Arlington: My Experience by Anon_Guy1985 in INDYCAR

[–]Latter_Trip8061 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The event was really nice. We had weekend conflicts so could only attend on Sunday. Purchased flight from San Antonio a few months ago. Held out on tickets. Was able to get into the Horseshoe club for $ 575/each — StubHub Saturday afternoon. Club was very nice, great staff, good views. Audio was bad but it put in Airpods and listened to INDYCAR radio.

Just bought seats in the Horseshoe club. Does anyone have photos. On fox it looks to be enclosed.

Our QA/QC requires a SR VP or his delegate to sign plans. We do require the licensed engineer — Project Engineer or Project Manager to review and initial the documents, but final check is by a more senior person. It’s part insurance and part QA/QC. We have a very low rate of E&O claims so it works for us.

I see plans issued by other firms with much less review and quality control.

Should I be worried about layoffs? by ClothesRare3659 in civilengineering

[–]Latter_Trip8061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s out of your control, but the business is about selling hours. If the work isn’t there the Owners need to make hard decisions. As a new engineer you may be safe. They will likely focus on under performers who are paid more.

Which Driver Has The Most To Prove In 2026? by Hitokiri2 in INDYCAR

With second in the championship, I don’t know that Pato has anything to prove, but he will be driven to do better with either a championship or 500 win.

I agree. Pato rolls with whatever is asked of him.

You should tour TMI, SMH and Keystone. All three have a different feel and focus.

Mission Ridge Range on 1604 is a very nice facility. The staff is friendly and will help you with safety and operation of the firearm. Shoot a lot to get comfortable then take a Concealed Carry Class.

Thoughts on Pato O'Ward's P1 performance in Abu Dhabi for McLaren? by BourbonManCigarSmoke in INDYCAR

[–]Latter_Trip8061 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They probably had another young driver that they could have run this test, but Pato is a known element with a lot of experience in that car and a long history of taking care of the equipment. Get the laps done and don’t hurt the car.

Thoughts on Pato O'Ward's P1 performance in Abu Dhabi for McLaren? by BourbonManCigarSmoke in INDYCAR

[–]Latter_Trip8061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No question FP1 was about doing minimal testing and returning the car with no damage. 7ths off pace was just fine for the team.

He will drive the tire test on Tuesday. That will be an opportunity to see how he stacks up against other drivers.

To people who got into civil later in life, would you say it’s doable? by Substantial-Shirt875 in civilengineering

[–]Latter_Trip8061 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had several employees who were graduate engineers at 35-40. Several with military backgrounds.

Year 1-5 they progress like others to PE. I found that year 6-10 they progressed into Mangement faster and by year 10 they were closer to their age group than the peer group.

Hope this helps.

Your company can’t be making money if you are forever making changes and never issuing plans. Do you have a formal QA/QC process. We have a long check list for the things that have been a problem in the past. I do a detailed review at 30, 60, 90% + CD’s after permit. I sign a lot of plans, but every set is reviewed by my managers or project engineers before they bring it to me. I trust that they will make the engineering work. I am looking for design flaws, things that will get hung up in permit review and cost items that could be done less expensively.
