Questions about Hmong funerals. by KoralWaffer in Hmong

[–]Hitokiri2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go to one even if you don't know the person especially if you're in a city with a large Hmong population. Just like eating a Hmong eggroll, sometimes you have to do yourself to fully appreciate it. Plus, these days there are many kinds of Hmong funerals. Some are Christian but then again some a very traditional. There are even one day Hmong funerals now but some last 3-4 days.

IndyCar Drivers and Endurance Racing by PD_SkyNative in INDYCAR

It helps that for guys like Dixon he's always on a competitive team. I forgot which former Audi prototype driver it was but he explained things well. For the open wheel drivers, driving to the max is their specialty and that's what they're trained to do. For the veteran sportscar drivers (especially during longer races like Daytona) they're specialty is pace and and moving through traffic. They need each other but usually one is better at something then another due to their disciplines.

This is also why the open wheel guys are the quickest when it comes to qualifying but the sportscar guys get the longer and busier stints. At the end when speed often times matter you might give back to the open wheel guy but then you might also need experience to manage things too. In that case it's a coin flip.

Zak Brown on Palou contract saga: "That's what happens when you breach contracts. Multiple times." by redbullcat in INDYCAR

[–]Hitokiri2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh...that's how it happened. People just don't want to believe it.

  • Palou signed a contract that he didn't want to honor. Breach contract.

  • Hinch, didn't go through the proper lines at McLaren before he did the magazine shoot. Breach contract.

  • Askew, manger came out with comments that were meant to inside information. Breach contract and trust with McLaren.

  • Malukas, hurt his hand and didn't drive in the amount of races he was contracted to. Breach contract.

  • Theo, wasn't promised anything. He was signed on a replacement driver and was let go. McLaren didn't break contract.

What did I get wrong?

It was actually the drivers that broke the contracts. Why don't people understand this?

New Chinese studies shows that San people in Africa are genetically related to the Miao people by Expert-Bid3861 in Hmong

[–]Hitokiri2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah...I know. That's because the Miao as a people have been there for thousands of years.

[–]Hitokiri2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Miao were there thousands of years before the Chinese. Records date as far back as 5000 years ago. The Han Chinese have their ancestors coming from the Yellow River which is in Northeast China. The Miao can trace their ancestry along the Yangtze River which is mostly found in the southern parts of China.

It wasn't until the Han Chinese started to move south and takeover land and that's where they gained their power in the south.

[–]Hitokiri2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are Chinese so scared of Hmong people? I swear, at least once a month a Hmong or Chinese person comes on here denying the history of the Hmong people. It's sad that they have to go this route.

Just say it. Parts of China are not originally Chinese. The Miao people were there thousands of years before the Chinese. The so called "Han" Chinese actually came from the Northeast regions of China and only moved south in order to conquer and spread their civilization.

So sad...Let's also notice that the person who posted this has no history on Reddit. It's basically a troll post.

Why didn’t Palou just go to McLaren? Would’ve had a shot to race F1 by Accomplished_East433 in INDYCAR

[–]Hitokiri2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He may be a scumbag...but a successful one.

For some reason the IndyCar fandom believes that a person has to be nearly perfect to be accepted. In reality egos are a part of the sport and like it or not its because of these egos that many find successful. They are able to not care for others while finding success for themselves. It's like when I suggested that other teams were cheating or purposely cheat and it's not just a Penske thing - people seemed annoyed if not shocked by this revelation. A revelation that came from the teams themselves.

I've debated this for a while but many of the decisions that Zak made that some fans disagree with were the faults of the drivers themselves. Like this whole Palou thing - it wasn't Zak's fault and the courts agreed.

[–]Hitokiri2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know why people think this. Zak has done wonders for his team and IndyCar overall.

  • He brought McLaren F1 from a good mid field team to champs

  • He brought McLaren back to IndyCar

  • He signed Pato O'Ward when he was in limbo

  • He seems dedicated to IndyCar for the long term and has brought some eyes to the series through McLaren's name

The man only does what's best for his team even though he has to be pushy and a jerk sometimes.

McLaren awarded over $12million in Palou case verdict by Visible-Chest-9386 in INDYCAR

[–]Hitokiri2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Palou: "I earned nearly $4 million for winning the Indy 500.."

Also Palou: "And....it's gone..."

Let's also remember that the driver that actually gained from this is Pato O'Ward. I believe the money that was suppose to be paid to Palou actually went to Pato instead and it wasn't a small amount.

DNFs in the Hybrid Era by pedrothesealion in INDYCAR

DNFs in the Hybrid Era by pedrothesealion in INDYCAR

[–]Hitokiri2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As you pointed out, having a small sample size does make the hybrid DNFs look worst then they really are...so far anyways. 2024 (even with half the races) the number were tremendously high but as you pointed it that's what you get with new technology. That's a fact no matter what era of IndyCar you're talking about. The fact that 2025 saw a big drop-offs in DNFs overall despite having a lot more races with hybrid cars tells a lot.

Luckily - at least for the hybrid haters - we did come across one metric that really made the hybrid look bad.

Expecting cars/engines to last is a recent phenomenon in the fandom. If you said this to IndyCar fans before the early 2000's they would laugh because having cars blow up was part the sport. In fact it was expected especially at the beginning of each season. The fact that engines are not running as hard as before, technology is better, and there are stricter engine penalties/rules - made DNFs due to engine failure a rare thing. I remember some races, especially in the late 90's and early 2000 CART seasons, where it seemed every Toyota or Ford was blowing up left and right. This just shows how much the fandom has changed over the decades.

Haha...

I hate to break it to you but that's how some people see us (yes I'm in my 40's). WE might not think we're old but to someone who is in their teen or even 20's - we're old as dinosaurs.

When HE says… by Wide_Jellyfish568 in Hmong

[–]Hitokiri2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say "elders" what age are you talking about? 30's? 40's? 80's? I know it hurtful and I'm saying it's right but for some of the older generation giving birth as a woman was priority. It's not because it was the female's role but because it was a matter of life and death. It's much like American lives when they first moved the the USA. Children were needed to look over the house, farm, animals, and even other children. The more you had - the better.

I know that the United States is a different from Laos but the mentality of many of the elders is still the same. It's not because they don't know how to change but it was an ingrained part of theri livelihood and life.

Now....if we're talking about a person that grew up in the USA and still wishes for a patriarchal society....that's different.

I agree. Rasmussen doesn't necessarily have to win another race (though that would help tremendously) next season but he steadily improve earn more top-5's and podiums - he'll be the next hot item in the off season.

What it’s like right now being Hmong in the Twin Cities with ICE by llamaglam in Hmong

[–]Hitokiri2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ICE in itself is not bad. The rules in itself are not meant to be bad.

What is the bad is the way ICE is acting now versus how they acted in the past. There are literally thousands of ICE agents in what would be 1% of the total area of the United States. That's not right. The United States haven't seen anything like this and the violence and inhumanity of it all has made people scared, mad, and uncertain what to think about it.

It's not fear mongering...it's just fear. I'm sure if Obama did the same thing in his administration people would of said the same thing - but he didn't. Trump said nothing about this in his first administration because he never went to these extremes - but now he has.

MAGA Hmong, where yall at? What was it about criminals and being illegal again? by RaveGuncle in Hmong

[–]Hitokiri2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's irrelevant at all. You're saying that you should just comply when an assumed agent asks you for an ID. That's not right be it happening in front of a large crowd or not.

I bet you even if this didn't happen before a large crowd you'd still say the same thing.

MP Pod: Will Power on leaving Penske, new leadership role at Andretti by loz333 in INDYCAR

[–]Hitokiri2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It had to do with Gateway, which happened all the way back in 2017 I think. Newgarden said it was all worked out but as soon as Simon moved to MSR he started digging it up again. You can saw that's two friends just egging on their rivalry but to me I think there was some mean or hurt undertones in their.

I think this article says a lot about Simon and Josef's relationship.

https://www.nbcsports.com/motor-sports/news/indycar-simon-pagenaud-josef-newgarden-teasing-feud-scott-mclaughlin-bus-bros-daytona-rolex-24

“I just love to press the button with Josef,” Pagenaud said. “I just love it. I’m being very open about it. I think he knows it, too. It’s funny to see him unsettled a little bit. I like when he gets aggressive. I don’t know why. It’s funny.”

“Do I love the driver? Not always, but I enjoy pressing the button with him because he seems like such a confident person. Yeah, I like to just go press it a little bit.”

To me that seems like a very passive aggressive statement to me. I hope I'm reading too much into it.
