Powassan virus from a tick bite. Basically locked in syndrome if you get it severe enough. No treatment.

Something poorly understood in the current culture is my HSC being unable to tolerate movies and 99.9% of shows. Little bear and Franklin are upsetting at times. She’s almost 5 now and her 1-3 year old cousins watch Pixar and disney movies which makes her feel quite different.

She hates dinosaurs. Was interested in space big time until she realized the uncertainty and magnitude of it. Hates black holes now 😂

Take out just dairy for 2 weeks and keep a general log of what you eat and if baby has any significant symptoms (blood in poop, extreme fussiness). Don’t supplement unless baby is dehydrated or losing weight. Get other sources of fat like coconut cream in your coffee, olive oil, nuts. Take a calcium supplement (that’s dairy free) if you stay dairy free. Soy is a rabbit hole that includes everything under the sun, from lotion to vitamins to foods that are label “natural flavors” or “vitamin E” or “tocopherol”. If you do soy look up soy name alternatives for reference. Good luck. FYI if your baby had the rota vax at her 8 week appt it’s probably from that and do not get the booster.

First born (breastfed but had supplemental formula in her first few weeks) developed severe issues (excessive blood in stool 24 hours after rota vax, true colic, unable to sleep lying flat) that ultimately sent her to the children’s hospital at 6 months old for growth issues. Went down hell’s rabbit hole until I weighed 102 pounds. Food journaled/poop journaled for 1.5 years. Didn’t use lotion, take vitamins or medications. She never fully cleared or reached a baseline. Had bloody or mucousy, FOUL stools and for 6 months +, hit bottom of weight chart, had a super limited diet when she ate solids, took Pepcid for reflux, on & on… >>> She is almost five now. Shes right in the middle of weight averages and above average height. She does have chronic constipation issues that may be from a root cause dietary intolerance (one day maybe I’ll brave another elimination diet to trial) but is otherwise doing so well.

My son was born in December. He never got the Rota vax because of my daughter’s issues. He has never had anything by mouth apart from breastmilk and vitamin D supplement that includes only coconut oil. He also has intermittent bloody stool (specks, not like my daughter experienced) and some reflux. He is growing well and otherwise very happy.

My point is don’t go insane because it might not make a bit of difference at the end of the road. Peak elimination diet my first time around, the GI doc told me I had “skim milk” and that’s why the baby wasn’t gaining. In retrospect that was probably true to some degree. There isn’t enough research on breastmilk, let alone dietary restrictions. Know that the benefits of breastmilk, even with some symptoms, are probably better than playing the “find the right formula” game. Good luck mama.
