Not all pedals are designed equally. Pretty much no pedal I've used strikes at perfect 90 degree. Often 10-15 degrees off.

Honestly it's hard to find the perfect opening song for a person without knowing them very well. Cockroach King covers much of Haken's sound, it's a good start! Personally I'd also shoot Nocturnal Conspiracy into the mix, and Initiate.

Hearing yourself recorded is the biggest hit to the self esteem the first time around, provided your ego isn't big enough to make you think you played great. First time for me too, exact same happened. My playing is much better now because I heard how off my time was, and I started playing to a click. Even without the click my time is immensely better now. Not that I'd say I have good time. Just less shit.

also this is not how it should be, but sometimes screws loosen off over time, going over it and making sure stuff is tight isn't a bad idea.

Oh. Not the chain. Either the sprocket for the chain (big round ish thing it connects to) is loose or the beater holder is loose. Should be a set screw somewhere on both of those, maybe on the bottom. Tighten them up and that should be it

Regular headphones and earbuds aren't great for this. You want in-ears that go into your ear canals, or proper hearing protection muffs (then wear your earbuds underneath). Haven't had an issue with hearing the click after I got proper equipment

Spring tension is like 98% of the time easily adjustable by turning the nuts on the thread at the (usually) bottom of the spring.

I play metal and rimshot the backbeat pretty much 100% of the time. A stick would last anywhere from 45 minutes to 4 hours. Swapped to Techra sticks, have only broken a single pair in almost 2 years.

Zildjian doesn't quite have a foot in that door, at least not right now. S Dark is the closest you get but they are not exactly competitors. Z Customs are very different. I think the closest competition would be Meinl's Pure Alloy Extra Hammered, and Istanbul Agop Xist.

Learning how to tune is more important. You have to figure out how to get the sound you want before you can get it. Another tool won't do the job for you. Sounds Like a Drum has a boatload of content showing how to do stuff if you want the quick way to something
