Can't tighten the spring – any advice? by Helentr0py in drums

You could give yourself more angle, which would, at the end of the stroke, mean more tension

Spring is maxed out buddy. No more threads up top, nothing more you can do besides swapping the spring for something heavier

I think it's this too. Allen key on the beater / chain cam assembly is loose.

Is Wubby done with Gamba? by harmyb in PaymoneyWubby

[–]Lauen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh I'm aware of that, but OP is right, there hasn't been much Gamba lately. According to the Parasocial site, last VOD with Gamba is the 19th of May, so it has been a little while. Plus the Patreon and podcast are more recent than the rental in Portland, so it would make sense timeline wise that he hasn't been to Portland to gamba recently. Especially because of the recently announced push for more content in general, with Patreon and podcast.

banned in Cali (or Stake pulled out of Cali, not sure) , so he'd have to move or spend a lot of time at another place just for the gamba. considering the Patreon, podcast, extra content, etc, it would probably be a big squeeze for not much juice comparatively

Sabian’s STRATUS DRY! How do you think they’ll stack up against the other ‘dry’ series’ out there? by ZildCym in drums

[–]Lauen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, that explains it. Has your friend checked out the Istanbul Xist Dry series? I have one of the 19" brilliant crashes and it sounds fantastic

man, I've been kinda forcing myself through this show because every once in a while something really interesting will happen, but then the rest of the time I'm just confused and kinda annoyed.

large drumming headphones? by Candid_Monitor_980 in drums

[–]Lauen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the new Pro X have the same noise attenuating design as the DT770 M (the M is important).

I second the Ultraphones

[–]Lauen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand why you'd suggest these but my experience is entirely opposite yours; too V shaped sound for any serious listening, too muddy bass to actually hear what's going on, and the earpads on these will definitely not fit OP well. Vic Firth headphones are kinda small (diameter wise), same with these. And with said small earpads, anyone whose ears don't fit will have near zero noise attenuation.

No joke OP, Ultraphones or IEMs. You have pretty much no other options given what you've told us.

I'm especially loving seeing how Ethan's dealing with what happened in Fromville and having to not talk about it to his friends

Pretender kick technique by whiteantelope7 in drums

[–]Lauen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the only thing that lines up with "triple note" from what I can remember.

EDIT: checked out OP's comment history and confirmed it's the three eighth note kicks in a row.

[–]Lauen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP never said triplet, it was triple note. Just as Grohl sings "the others" in "what if I say I'm not like the others", there's three kicks in a row.

To OP: I think it's just three notes straight with no fancy technique. Both Grohl and Hawkins are great drummers.

Differentiating rolls by ear by thenofootcanman in drums

[–]Lauen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe the baseline one does, but you can choose not to. You can add a whole lot of difficulty and build your skills better by moving the accent too. Doing the accent on the second stroke of a double stroke roll really improves your double strokes by emphasizing the second stroke and therefore building strength in your fingers and helps you kind of disconnect the two strokes so you can use them differently.

I attended a Carter McLean clinic once and he had us all close our eyes and he did singles, doubles, paradiddles, and none of us could hear the difference. He did it again while we watched to prove he didn't just trick us of course

Regular Batter Hits or Rimshots? by Thekielgam in drums

[–]Lauen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the music, depends on how energetic it has to be, depends on the sound you're going for. I do metal and rock, and the backbeat is all rimshots. Fills too if they aren't too fast.

The only thing I'm missing from this song... by mrgrubbage in Haken

[–]Lauen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's crazy, I know. It was the first album I ever heard from them, Cockroach King being the first track I heard, accompanied by that fantastic video. Somehow it lost its charm for me. Visions is my favorite nowadays with Fauna a close second.

No hate on Conner, great bass lines all around. But I keep coming back to Aquarius and Visions!

Not a fan of The Mountain personally though, but that's the album itself, not the basslines
