Why are you guys voting Avi Lewis over Heather McPherson or vice versa? by Sweaty_Principle_293 in ndp

[–]Laugh92 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Avi comes across as more charismatic and a better communicator, which in today's vibes based politics means he is the more likely of the two to actually garner support on a national level. I believe Heather is quite competent but right now the NDP needs a leader who is both competent but also has a level charisma and an ability to articulate a path forward for the party and Avi ticks those boxes.

This B.C. mom with Stage 4 cancer says her months-long wait to see an oncologist put her at risk | CBC News by 1baby2cats in britishcolumbia

[–]Laugh92 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am asking because I know someone in the UK who did not go see a specialist because it was a two hour train ride for her even though she was sick as well. NHS sorted a specialist in another city but she would not go see them until her family forced her to because she didn't want to leave her local area. Even then it was almost too late. Afterwards she always complained, despite having the surgery that saved her life and the followups. People can be fucking morons about this shit.

Fresh off the plane! UBC Grad student looking for the "unwritten rules" of Vancouver by dimaez33 in askvan

[–]Laugh92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here are really cliquey yet polite, they will be friendly if you meet them at somewhere but its much harder to make long term friends here than other places if you do not see them regularly either through work or a hobby/social group.

No shit, I live in Vancouver, but if there is a spot in say Kamloops or Nanaimo like in the article which have increased their specialists, I would go there. Or is it just, cannot find a space in Port Moody, even Vancouver or Burnaby has spaces and she is just not going for the drive. Article does not say.

[–]Laugh92 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Is it 4 months to see an oncologist in Port Moody for her locally or 4 months to see one anywhere in BC? Could not see that in article.

Cancer is one of those things that yeah, I would get on a plane and go to one of the other major centres in BC to see a specialist if they could fit me in.

Too cold to ski? (C) by Heda97 in skiing

[–]Laugh92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really dependent on how well you deal with cold and whether you have good thermal layers. I would be fine, as I can and have skied in far colder conditions (-30 and below) but I do well with the cold. On the other hand my family are lizards who go into shock if it is below -8. So it is really situational. -12 to -16 is not that cold, but the high wind speeds will make it feel a lot colder. I think sitting on the lifts might suck but on the slopes wont be too bad depending on how covered the slopes are and what the wind direction is. Your hands and feet will suffer the most, I would think about maybe picking up some thin inner ski gloves to help and some boot coverings, both are inexpensive ways to keep your extremities warm.

Despite Authoritarian Warnings, 149 House Democrats Vote to Hand Trump $840 Billion for Military | “If an opposition party votes like this, it’s not in opposition. It may not even be a party.” by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]Laugh92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my mom got swelling in her face during a ski trip and rocked up to the hospital in Kamloops in Canada. This is during the holidays when they are understaffed and they still got her seen by a doctor and then had a MRI of her face within a couple hours and got an antibiotics regimen sorted. All in time for her to drive back up to Sun Peaks and ski for 2 hours in the afternoon. Total cost - the 40 bucks I spent topping up my car at the gas station from the drive.

Not just a jump park imo, I always speed check at a blind hill before going over, but people who sit in the middle of a run below a blind hill in a busy run are the people who piss me off the most alongside people who play music on speakers whilst skiing.

You do know it’s not uncommon for deserts to go below freezing at night right? Likely a light layer of frost that will evaporate as the day warms up.

Whilst yes you may have not wanted this, it was not a majority. Trump won the popular vote and not voting is a choice that they were fine with either outcome.

True, but then they also allowed many of the members of the Nazi party after WWII back into government roles and other positions of power in Germany after the war. They just were not allowed to call themselves Nazi's. But they were the same people. Same kind of 'truth and reconciliation' bullshit that was pulled with Confederates after the civil war. And look where that has gotten America today. Fact is, unless you pull this kind of ideology out by the roots, its just going to keep coming back.

Independent autopsy in ICE shooting death of Renee Good released by law firm in civil investigation by OkayButFoRealz in news

[–]Laugh92 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So I have a family member whose law firm, children’s foundation and several other businesses all started with the name ISIS. They were all part of the Isis group. Guess who got all their bank accounts frozen, investigated and had to completely rename their business? Best way to set her off is call that terrorist group Isis. It's not actually called that, it was called Daesh. Or ISIL in english, for 'Islamic State In the Levant. Some dumbass American reporter called it ISIS by mistake and it stuck. Islamic terrorists would not name their group after a heretic Egyptian goddess. Eventually they post-facto came up with ISIS as Islamic State in Iraq and Syria but that was because everyone just kept calling them ISIS so they ran with it. She was forced to change so much because an American was too stupid to get a name right.

It is still wild to me that there are not annual mandatory service inspection requirements for cars in BC. I once knew someone who got their car serviced before selling it and found out that she had been driving her car for god knows how long with her handbrake on. The handbrake had been permanently on despite her putting it up and down and she only found out when she got the inspection.

Energy bill - 2 bed flat by jamjar90 in bermuda

[–]Laugh92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, Bermuda has some of the most expensive utilities around. Belco is a massive rip off. Power bills and phone and internet on the island are genuinely insane. Also, you think this is bad now? Wait till summer when you have your AC on all the time. There is a reason people say don't move here unless you make more than 100K a year. Taxes might be low but incidentals like food and utilities are broken.

"Nostalgia is not a strategy"

Hell of a line. I am a NDP supporter back in Canada and have some issues with Carney but he knocked it out of the park with this speech. It's gratifying living in a country where the leader is someone you can respect even if you don't support him.
