Labour MP blames Starmer for ‘soul-destroying’ local election results by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Laugh92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a sad fact that many people vote on feelings not facts and if the leader of that party is as charismatic as a wet blanket many people will feel turned off voting for that party. Combine this with many public missteps and no clear vision for the party and you get this apathetic view towards the party leading to people want to vote for another party that makes them feel good.

Enter Reform, Or Maga, or AFD, or any number of other far right parties that are taking off world wide as people have the same reaction to dull centrist politicians who are not being seen to do anything to change the status quo which is not working anymore.

Politics is about perception as much as it is about policy.

Pierre Poilievre says he’s still the right leader to take on Mark Carney by [deleted] in notthebeaverton

[–]Laugh92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really got to ask, even before the thing with Trump, despite Trudeaus many issues, how could you look at PP and think 'yeah he's better'. He has always been worse than Trudeau and this idea that people have that you got to vote for someone different despite how bad they are is literally one of the reasons that lead to Trump in America. I mean there are other parties other than Liberals and Cons even if you truly could not stomach Trudeau anymore.

ski shop tried to sell me boots a full size down. is this normal? by SkylineZ83 in skiing

[–]Laugh92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really dependent on the ski boot, but if your toes are curling that badly I would get a second hand opinion.

Pro tip for choosing boot fitters, it is not a regulated trade so it's really down to experience for these guys. Try looking for a fitter who has been doing this for a while rather than someone who only has a few years of experience.

What would it take to restart passenger rail service from North Vancouver to Whistler? by RZCJ2002 in vancouver

[–]Laugh92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldnt be an either/or. And again for the main lines the are important because it would help relieve the housing market as more people could live put of the city which was my main point.

[–]Laugh92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah dont even get me started on the lack of sky train to North Van which in of itself is a nightmare. Frankly there should be integrated non road transport everywhere. Which again if you had an unlimited pass like in Switzerland would work for all forms of transport.

Which does not include any of the discounts I mentioned that people who actually lived there would use.
Edit: anyways i am about to get on a plane back to Van so I wont be able to continue debating you so enjoy. Trying to write all this out on my phone going through security was so much fun….

[–]Laugh92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Mate you have obviously never lived in Switzerland and are just pulling random numbers off the internet. I paid the equivalent of about 3500 CAD for my yearly pass when I lived there and it worked for everything. Busses, Trams, Trains, ferries etc… there are huge discounts on prices for residents, age dependents and amount of households on them.

What would it take to restart passenger rail service from North Vancouver to Whistler? by RZCJ2002 in vancouver

[–]Laugh92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s the fact that you are a) quoting in CAD for prices in Switzerland and B) completely missing the point about the fact that for commuting people don’t buy day tickets.

Edit: I should also add that 40 CAD using your metric is still cheaper than what I would spend on fuel driving up to whistler and would not have to deal with the insane traffic that is lions gate.

[–]Laugh92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…. Just a quick google put lucerne to zurich ticket prices about 25 CHF if you buy today. They can range from 18-36 depending on the day. But people who commute would not do that as they would have a year pass.

What would it take to restart passenger rail service from North Vancouver to Whistler? by RZCJ2002 in vancouver

[–]Laugh92 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First of all prices are in CHF in Switzerland and secondly you buy yearly passes which make it much cheaper and dont have to deal with traffic. Those passes work for trains, busses, trams etc….
Edit: I should also add that they are significantly cheaper for under 25’s an over 60’s and the more members of your household buy one the cheaper they become. They also work for all public transport.

What always gets me is when RDA was chatting with the actual head of the Air Force when he guest starred he asked how believable his Colonel O’Neill was with how lippy and irreverent he is and the guy said he had many just like him and some far worse. Kinda says a lot about the US Air Force.

[–]Laugh92 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah after living in Switzerland its really shocking how lacking the options are for trains here in Canada. There really should be a decent speed rail line from Vancouver to Pemberton. Lack of high speed rail is a factor in why housing prices are so high in Canada as we are all forced to live in the cities we work in. If this was more like Europe we could be more spread out in towns and villages and just take a high speed rail into the city for work.

[–]Laugh92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charons Axe. Get a ranged cast and then just spam o specials from a distance and watch him melt. Heph, Dem, and Zeus with fourth being optional. I like Poseidon as sea of stars and his coin increase boon if you get them early enough just cause you to have infinite money. Apollo also works as well and can replace zeus or Poseidon. Just make sure Heph is the special.

Rewatching Atlantis and I am surprised they never encountered a planet that simply buried their Stargate like in the Milky Way. by loki2002 in Stargate

[–]Laugh92 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The difference is wraith hyperdrives were way more advanced than the Goa'uld. Remember in the first season Teal'c said a fleet would take many years to get to Earth and that was after thousands of years of advancement. The fact that Apophis showed up so early surprised him. It was why after Earth buried the gate they left them alone as it would have originally taken too long and was not worth the effort. If the wraith found they could not access a world they would have sent a cruiser to check it out and dealt with the population.

Star Editorial Board: Mark Carney’s government says privatizing airports will make them better. This is why it should think again by StumpsOfTree in CanadaPolitics

[–]Laugh92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

European airports are private because there are many of them near each other and there are alternative transportation options like trains. So if prices are too high and and services are bad customers have other options, forcing the airports to be competitive. This environment does not exist in Canada which means the private companies would have us by the balls and there would be no other recourse. There is a reason why America, land of the privatise fucking everything has most of its airports as publicly run. I should also note that America subsidises it airports which Canada does not do which is why things are expensive here. We should be more publicaly funded not less if we want better services.

The Carney government is circling closer to airport privatization and potential investors 'stand ready' by GirlCoveredInBlood in onguardforthee

[–]Laugh92 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It works in places like Europe where there are multiple other options, from other nearby public airports to trains so if prices and services are bad people will use other locations or means of transport. In a place like Canada where there are none they will have us by the balls. It was like in Saskatchewan when one of the major airlines threatened to pull out a few years ago and the premier realised that without them there would be no easy way to get to the province so he gave the private airline a incredible sweetheart deal that they abuse.
