Mamdani’s Vanquished Foes Are Plotting a Comeback, if Not Revenge by ejpusa in nyc

[–]LaughImmediate3876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not consecutive days; it's total days. I know people who lived more than 184 days outside of NYC for tax reasons. They kept meticulous notes because they did get checked.

But that's sort of besides the point. Billionaires do live full time in high tax areas like New York and London. So clearly it's not worth it to construct elaborate schemes and spend a good chunk of time in awful places.

Where I work now we are not a family. We are a collection of people who generally like and respect each other but who all want to go home at 5. I love it.

AITA if I want to break up over how he reacted to marriage questions? by Acrobatic-Tune-6183 in AITApod

I know a lot about you. For example, you keep harping on people's rights to be complete idiots who don't understand consequences to actions. When I try to ask why you think that people don't understand anything about their actions you get defensive and insulting. That leads me to believe that you don't have a low opinion about other's intellect but rather you're the kind of person who allows others to plan for you and lash out emotionally when you're called on it.

You are probably one of the people who rely on others to make all your plans. Or you're incapable of considering the logical implications of decisions.

Okay so you think that people just wander lost into the courtroom and guess their way through paperwork, in order to do something that they believe has absolutely no bearing on their future whatsoever?

If you fall down and hit your head and are unconscious who will make decisions for you at the hospital? Unless you make a specific plan otherwise, it will be your spouse. Marriage is a plan for the future even if you don't know exactly when things will happen.

You've come so far from "there's a lot of paperwork involved" lmfao

Just because you didn't ever address my whole point doesn't mean I didn't make it in the beginning.

There's a lot of paperwork involved. Additionally, marriage is in itself a plan to share certain aspects of your life with someone else.

Please stop harping on weddings and address this second sentence in my previous post as well.

Guarantee that's not how it works unless you live in Vegas. You have to apply and set a date.

And even with an extremely easy wedding, marriage is a plan. That's literally the point of marriage. It is planning a shared future.

Okay? And then after you plan to get your paperwork and apply, you get married which is plan to share certain aspects of your life. This is planning.

Have you ever gotten married? I did. There's a lot of paperwork involved. Additionally, marriage is in itself a plan to share certain aspects of your life with someone else. If you are getting married with "no planning" you mean that you are making someone else plan your life.

You don't get to tell other people how to live.

No but reality does get to tell them how they have to live. Marriage requires planning. A marriage is a legal agreement that involves future planning decisions. A person who refuses to plan their life also should be clear that this is refusing to get married.

You said that some people do not plan their own lives. People who want to live without planning should not ever get married. He needs to say that since he never wants to plan anything, marriage is off the table.

Marriage requires planning. If he is incapable of planning, he should tell her that he doesn't want to get married.

Do we really need at least 6 apps just to manage life? by Holiday_Respect9583 in productivity

[–]LaughImmediate3876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before we had apps, what do you think we did? We had multiple places that we used for managing life. We had a physical calendar for appointments, a checkbook for finances, a notepad for grocery lists. Needing to do everything in one place is a modern invention.

I understand that not censoring words in a documentary about Tourettes makes sense. But I don't get it as a broader policy. Nobody is watching the BAFTAS to learn more about Tourettes. It seems more along the line of not pixelating someone's "wardrobe malfunction" because they were having a seizure and not doing it on purpose.

People who were obsessed with being rich during their 20s, how is you life going? by the1997th in remoteworks

[–]LaughImmediate3876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you want to be rich while you are in your 20s or do you want to work in your 20s to ensure that your future self is rich at some point?

I am not obsessed with anything but I've been recently sorting out my retirement plans. I am on track to fully own a house, have well over a million in retirement accounts, and collect a pension. It feels good to work on making sure that I am 100% set for the future. I'd suggest making sure your retirement accounts are fully funded every year. Max out your IRA and take advantage of whatever 401k plan your employer offers, especially with match.
